Best specialty to get into? - Shas

Posted: Dec 31, 2009

What is the best paying specialty to get into? I want to get into a good specialty but I want to make sure it is a good paying one if there are ones that pay better then others.

I don't think any one particular specialty pays better than others, but I tend to do better with operative reports because often you can use standards to fill in, and psychiatry because they are usually good dictators and long reports. However, your best bet is to learn it all and be able to do acute care (hospital-covers multiple specialties including operative) as these are the jobs with the most demand and pay better than clinic. If you limit yourself to just one specialty, you may have more difficulty finding a job. Check out the job postings here, many want acute care experience. Hope this helps.

I do several specialties - my best lines come from

Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gasteroenterology, and Nephrology.

They all pay the same rate so it is a matter of who dictates the most (i.e., greatest line counts).

I do radiology and love it - jackie

I'm not sure if any one specialty is better paying than the other. I do radiology. I also do acute care reports (with the same company). They all pay the same. I think it all depends on how fast you type, how familiar you are with a specialty and how many shortcuts you have.

I have been doing radiology now about 6 years that I am very familiar and it goes really fast, and I've heard others say you can really make a lot in radiology.

Thank you - Shas

Thank you. I have been told a lot that you need experience in many different areas. I agree with that but most places even on here ask for so many years in one area. Like Acute Care 5 years, or radiology 8 years and if you are not in that area that long you don't get it. So I thought if I could go for a particular one, getting others also, but focusing on one, it would help to know what a good one was.
What kind of shortcuts do you use? I am new to this so the only shortcuts I use right now are the ones I have put in word myself. I don't know what program to get to help with it.

Thank you - eagles_fan

I hope this is helpful. Good luck.

Any Specialty
Jul 26, 2013

When an ad says Specialty: Any. What does that mean? If you have only done Radiology for years and only 2 or 3 years of acute care 20 years ago, would you feel comfortable applying for something as vague as "any specialty". Has anyone out there applied for a job specialty they have never done and still got through it? thank you ...

Specialty Lookup Has Changed :-(
May 30, 2013

There's a site I'd been referencing for a long time when I couldn't find a doctor through Fluency, which is often. It was always easy, user friendly and reliable, and I could usually find the doctor I was looking for under his or her specialty. Now it's been changed to a newer, sleeker pretty look, but the format for finding a doctor doesn't work and is not helpful at all. For instance, in looking up, say, Pulmonary doctors, it shows an assortment of doctors of variou ...
