been a transcriptionist for over 10 years - ttnt

I have been a transcriptionist for over 10 years and I recently started a job for a small transcription company that requires 100% accuracy for all reports. I continually get flagged with emails saying, "Please find the punctuation mistake and apply back with why" These are most always just one or two comma mistakes in the whole report. Do all of you turn in reports with absolutely no comma or semicolon mistakes at all or am I just an inadequate transcriptionist? Frustrated.
I would look around for another MT job - dch

can anyone name one job thst requires 100% whatever, of course not. This is just what companies want the MT to accept. Start looking around for another job and do it now before they destroy your confidence, self-esteem etc etc. It is abuse. Nothing will ever be acceptable. They will pick you apart. Been doing this for 50 plus years, so I'm not new at this. Start looking around NOW, NOW. It's abuse.
Thank you for the response. - ttnt

Thank you so much. It is difficult not to be desperate with so little jobs out there. They seem to know that. You are correct it definitely begins to work on your self esteem and confidence level. I find I am more concerned about making a tiny mistake and getting a nasty email than the joy I have always found in just typing, which is what I do. I appreciate deeply your advice.

Wow, if you are from the old school you would put commas in where the "new age language experts" leave them out, like the comma at the end of a series. No body is 100% accurate. If you are working with a company that has the audacity to claim 100% accuracy, look elsewhere, they have their heads in the clouds. Ye gads. Don't they have anything better to do with their time than nitpick subjective punctuation?

RUN TO ANOTHER JOB - They are getting documentation together so if they ever want to let you go they have it. They have no clue where that comma goes. I would tell them very politely that you do your absolute best with your punctuation marks and if they believe you are wrong (as long as you have worked long enough to get unemployment)then perhaps they should consider letting you go. You might just have one of those bosses they don't feel good about themselves unless they are making you feel bad about yourself. I got to the point I would just give the same reply to every correction. "I received your criticism and recognize it." She finally left me alone.

Going Digital - Transcriptionist For 17 Years Dec 02, 2012I have been a transcriptionist for 17 years. I am currently working for a hospital FT and an orthopedic surgeon PT. My private practice account is finally making the switch to going digital from microcassettes.
I have been researching transcription/dictation options and quite frankly my head is spinning. I am not certain what my/our best options are regarding foot pedal, voice recording with encryption capabilities and/or FSP site.Â

25+ Years Medical Transcriptionist Considering Apr 29, 2013Hello: I am 58 years old and have been doing medical transcription for 25+ years. The group I transcribe for online is transitioning over to total EMR, thus will be leaving me without a job in the not too distant future. I don't do Acute care, so there are next to no opportunities for other transcription jobs. There are no jobs to be had in my very, very small town (including the 25-bed hospital) so I'm considering going with online classes for training and cert ...
Been Transcriptionist 20 Years But New At IC Work, Need Advice Sep 03, 2014Hello Everyone:
I have been a Medical transcriptionist for approximately 20 years, but I am brand new at any contract work and need some sound advice. I have always worked for a doctor's office or hospital, so they have always supplied me with equipment, programs, etc. I have decided to go this route as I need a more flexible schedule, but I have never worked where I have been paid by the line, so pretty clueless about it, even in the sense of what is good pay. I have appli ...
A Medical Transcriptionist Of 10 Years Lost Her Job Today May 17, 2011Dear Fellow Transcriptionists: I just want to vent and tell you what happened to me today. I lost my job today because I got a 97.9 on my quality review, which was done on my work in about 3 years. I was working as an independent contractor and I was told that I was being terminated and when I asked if I could be put on another account, they said they were not hiring employees just independent contractors, no employees.
I am so upset. I have been a transcriptionist for 10 years this ...
What Would Be A Reasonable Hourly Wage For A Medical Transcriptionist Of 12.5 Years? Nov 30, 2012Hi:
I have worked for the same hospital for 12.5 years, so there is a lot of loyalty there. I live in a southern state in the USA. I get paid an hourly pay plus $0.47 incentive for anything over 90 minutes. My hourly pay to me is low, but not below $10.00 an hour. Is 20.00 per hour appropriate or am I wrong? Thanks in advance for the advice.
PS: I am not here for a debate just want to know what is a good hourly pay for 12.5 years.
Thanks,

After Years And Years Of Being IC, Obtained Employee Status At A Co. Sm Nov 26, 2012Thought that after not having enough work for a couple years now and always chasing work, I'd now have a "real job" as an employee and wouldn't have to worry about a steady paycheck and paying the bills anymore.
The reason I thought this was because at the interview and in their professional company emails, they use all the "real job" words: Shift, scheduled hours, overtime, PTO, benefits, etc. I felt relieved to finally have a "job."
What a big bunch of BS! I was "hired" ...
3 Years. Question: How Many More Years Do You Plan To Be An MT/editor? Dec 20, 2013There is much speculation about the field of transcription - how many of us actually plan to be here 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now. I realize that the field is going to change, which will contribute to your answer. Will there be enough transcriptionists/editors to fill the need in 5 years and in 10 years? Will the industry be forced out of offshoring because of taxes? Will there be a need even for editors if VR gets better? These are all unanswered questions, but my question is, what ...
I Worked For M*Modal A Couple Of Years Ago Or So And I Worked For Medquist Several Years Ago. Aug 08, 2014Lately, I've been getting legal notices mailed to my home from I believe the east coast somewhere informing me of a class action lawsuit against M*Modal and inviting me to joint if I have a claim. I don't think I have a claim, but then again with all the shady practices in this business, I'm not so sure. I'm just curious what the heck is going on. Anyone care to give me the lowdown? ...
And To Think I'm Now A Transcriptionist Oct 20, 2010In posting a reply in a different thread, it brought back a memory I thought I'd share.
I had just turned 18 and my mom had just had surgery. I went to the hospital to visit her but wasn't sure where she was. The nurses asked me what surgery did my mom have. I replied, "A vasectomy." Oh my how the nurses laughed! They replied, "Oh no honey, I think you mean a hysterectomy." And look at me now, been an MT for nearly 20 years! ...

Any and all comments to this question would be helpful. I am new in the medical transcription field. I have been having a hard time finding a job, and one day I get an email from this company. I received an email the next day stating they would like to hire me, to please reply to posting. I ...
TTS Transcriptionist May 05, 2011TTS is recruiting, that is ironic! - but so true to form in this business. Every day I run out of work at some point during my shift and they say "We will let you know when it starts coming back in." Meanwhile I am making no money. I used to be a happy, loved my job, transcribing in the hospital - over 10 years ago. Since my hospital farmed out to these companies that I have tried to work for - NOT happy, not even able to earn a decent living. H ...

Transcriptionist To Coder Nov 14, 2011Hello everyone. I have posted here before about this topic. If there are any other credentials I would need, please let me know because I have just started researching this. Thank you. ...
Frustrated ED Transcriptionist Jan 21, 2012Frustrated that even though I have stressed my proficiency in ED work, I am still forced to do other work types first, while yet others are getting ED work types in their "pools"... I would think you would want someone who types fast in a certain area be allowed to crank that work out first and then when it runs out, let the other work types they are not so good at roll into their pool.... Veterinary Transcriptionist? Sep 13, 2012Hello all-
I am a licensed veterinary technician that also got a certification as a medical transcriptionist after I had my 2nd child. I am looking to work from home part time and having no luck at the moment finding a job. But as I sit here and read and ponder.... do any of you know of any veterinarians that send out transcriptioning? I don't know if it is even anything a vet office could afford, but I would be interested in it if anyone knows of anything.

Canadian Medical Transcriptionist Mar 14, 2010Can someone please explain to me why Canada is considered OFFSHORE? We have the same extremely strict confidentiality and medical data security laws and, in fact, tougher standards in the definitions with Independent Contractor versus employee status. Why is Canada considered offshore? It's not nearly like sending something to India or Pakistan where you don't know who is working on the dictation or what the ulterior purpose is. Why can't the two countries just get along? ...
Medical Transcriptionist Resume Help Aug 30, 2010I would really appreciate any help you are willing to give me. Â

How Does VR Make Sense For The Transcriptionist? Sep 10, 2010Company A pays an experienced transcriptionist/MLS 3 or 4 cpl to edit VR.

Company A apparently fails to realize that some transcriptionists can also do basic math pretty well, and can see that they are actually getting paid less to d ...
