What do most people like, editing or transcribing? Just curious.

I do both for two different companies. I prefer TRANSCRIBING!!!

I've done both and definitely prefer transcription. I have yet to see how voice recognition saves time, as I find it tedious and time consuming to edit. So why do they want to pay editors 40 to 50% less than transcriptionists? That infuriates me!

Do you mean editing speech rec reports or editing as a QA person?
I prefer transcribing as I like typing better than correcting and think it's better money - although it depends on the VR program. Right now I do 90% VR.
I only did editing (as in QA) when I was asked to help out with it for a few months a couple of years ago. I liked it, but did not make nearly as much money as I did transcribing because I had to do a full listen on all the reports - they were training newbies. When the newbies got better, though, editing becamse more boring - fewer blanks to fill in and less to correct.

Don't confuse editing with being QA (text already transcribed and you proof it).
Editing is voice recognition and you unscramble junk and "create" the report for them at a considerably low pay rate.
You are putting in caps and periods and taking out where they do not belong, deleting wrong text and retyping it in.
Because there were so 000 many changes needed, I felt obliged to rewind and relisten AGAIN to each report before submitting. Total waste of time.
I did not like it as it created me more work than regular transcribing and I was worn out with the extra keystrokes needed that were not used in regular MTing.
AND, for all there you make 40,60, 90% less money, same skill needed, but much less income. It pays 2, 2.5, 3, 4 cents a line and you have to listen through and correct (edit) a whole lot of line to still making zip. Can figure it up how many lines to make such and such $$$.
Say 400 lines an hour to listen and edit equals?$ an hour. EVERY HOUR

Unlike the above, I never have to retype lines, never listen back to reports once finished, spell check and let it go, complete waste of my time and no wonder a person could not make money this way. I do approximately 90% VR now and it works wonders with ESLs, in fact right away when I first started on it. My reports are never junk, even what my human ears are struggling to hear, VR is picking it up. I can average $20.00 or better per hour so even at that 4 cpl, if you are good at this there is opportunity to make money. I am very glad I learned this several years ago.
If that's true, then I'm sure you won't mind - sm

sharing which platform and/or company you've found to be so wonderful.
In my experience, it takes nearly the same amount of time to correct VR as it does to just transcribe the report, yet they want to pay about half as much. No thanks.
You are contradicting yourself - VR lover

You first asked me to share platform and/or company and at the end you say no thanks? Some can do this work better than others. When people close their mind to technology, I find these do not do well with VRing. Probably best for you to stick to straight - if you can continue to find that in the future.

say my experience has been awful and ask which companies/platforms you've found that are supposed to be so much better, but as I suspected, you have no answer to that.
Giving out the names of companies already talked about - VR lover

Oh, I have answers to both but as stated here yesterday or the day before by someone else, would it make sense for me to name a company where I make a decent living with and loving the company, for others to jump on. Others have to find their own fit because I am not giving that information out. I have only worked on 1 platform and that is Editscript- may go as Escription.
Escription - 7dayMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Escription is the best VR program I have used (I have used 2 others). I won't say I make as much as I did with straight transcription at 10 cpl and with lots of templates and Shorthand entries, but it's not Wal-Mart wages either. Since Escription is used by several different companies, the line rate varies.

Editing just made me depressed and irritated. It didn't pay well, for starters, and you also get to see the crappy work (especially those who work for companies that outsource), as well as then have to fix that crappy work.
I was an editor for almost three years and I was never so happy as when I resigned and went back to transcribing.
After over 21 years being an MT, I am burnt out and want to try something different. Is there, in fact, anyone that will hire an MT without editing experience and train them ???? ...
Just wondering if this is a good VR platform? Thinking of applying to a company that uses this. Any information would be appreciated. I hate the thought of going to VR but that is all the jobs that are out there and I need a job. My previous employer just lost the account that I was working on. ...
I know this is not the place to look for positive answers, but I am going to try anyway. Worked for MQ years ago, but hated the punching in thing. I have tested with them recently, as I want to get into the field of voice recognition editing. Can anybody tell me about the part-time requirements, benefits, and the average line rate for editing? How much of your time is editing and how much is doing actual typing? What are the line requirements, and what happens if yo ...
Is anybody really making anything doing editing of work that somes from India. I was offered 5 cents to do it and was wondering if that was good. I have heard that the fixing of them reports are sometimes worse than the VR. I strongly feel it should be kept here personally. Any input would help in my decision. ...
I was wondering if anyone knew of any entry level editor jobs. I do have about 6 months of experience, but I am not sure where to look for a editor job online.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!
Thanks

I'm not talking about the official proofreader positions that people hire in as. I'm talking about VR "editing" - meaning, when you get those reports where VR does what it's supposed to, and you only need to add 1 comma, for instance, in the entire report - and you are zipping along at the 300-400 lph you were promised, as justification for the 50% pay cut on switch to VR...isn't that actually proofreading??
...but what about those OTHER reports...the ones that re ...
The reports I am reviewing are unbelievable! It would be easier to have transcribed them myself. Obviously, these reports were not transcribed by American MTs. It has been a jaw-dropping experience so far! ...
Medical Transcriptionist Week began May 20th to recognize MTs over a week. The theme this year: Patient Safety. MTs across the country are transcribing medical records and are dedicated to being a 1st-line defense against errors that can negatively and sometimes fatally affect you as a patient - physicians make mistakes. MTs ensure those errors do not end up in your Electronic Medical Record. Healthcare consumers are you aware that local hospitals are outsourcing their work to what are kno ...

I decided to check out the new advertisement on the job seekers board for ortho vr editors. something fishy there. the company name (supposedly) is iMEDat. i went to their website and looked for contact info, as I wanted to know where they were located. There is no contact info. If you need to contact them, you need to fill out an email form and send it to them. There was, however, a toll free phone number, so I looked that up. It relates back to a place called Professional Transcription ...
They require that I purchase professional liability insurance.
Does anyone work at Alltype as QA editor? and if so could I get you to message me? I have a few questions.
This whole liability insurance thing just bothers me so much. I make so little now as QA that to then have to shell out more money, I am considering just retiring and be done with this profession.

At first I was speeding up the dictation but found that it was impossible to correct while listening to the voice. My trainer encourages us to correct and listen at the same time. However, when speeding up the voice, that become impossible and I have to stop the dictation to make the corrections. Hi all. Can anyone tell me what the scenario is nowdays with MQ QA/editors? Do they still have just QA or is it QA combined with transcription? Do they pay per hour and can anyone tell me approximately how much? Thanks in advance. ...
I have had three large accounts for over 20 years. One has gone completely automated with voice recognition (except for two providers who will never be able to use voice recognition - yay!), one is in the process of going EMR, and one hasn't even addressed it yet.
The first one has hired me to access their system directly (Centricity/Logician) and proofead every voice recognition-created record their providers create and make corrections as needed. They hav ...
I have a continuous problem with ExText and I cannot find a solution anywhere. I'm using it with Word 2003 professional version. All my Word settings match up the instructions I received from both the company I work for and Nuance.
Whenever I correctly log off, I get a pop-up window that tells me Word has closed and it's searching for a solution, which it never finds. I've run all different scans for malware, viruses, etc.
Anyone know why this keeps happening and how to ...
I am currently working for a company that uses Chartnet/M*Modal Editor and have had so many problems with my foot pedal working and a lot of other problems also. Has anyone else had any problems with this platform? At first I thought it was my computer but the longer I work on this I am beginning to think maybe it's a problem with the platform itself. I would love to hear from MTs who have used this platform and how they liked or disliked it. I am about to jump ...

I recently went through Entrada's internship and am now working for them as an IC editor. I have done extensive searching on line and can not find even one review from an employee for this company.
I was told that I will be working Monday through Friday but was not given any specific schedule, which is how an IC position should work. I was also told I can go on line and work 24/7. I am not getting enough work to make my quota each day, and I am worried this will eventually cause them to ...
