I LOVE Scotty dog and MISS this term! - OldTimer

Back in the old days we used to transcribe Scotty dog, joint mice, and other fun "critters" in rad reports all the time! That would have been in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Now everything is dumbed down, dull, and boring.
I always loved the mental images I used to get when - the radiologist dictated "joint mice"! nm

Lumbar Pain/DDD/muscle Weakness
Sep 10, 2010

I'm having some trouble with this dictation...I think it must have been late in the day for this dr...this one was didn't make sense in many places where she'd use the wrong words, not finish a thought, dictate different med doses, etc.  I've narrowed it down to 2 that I absolutely cannot get & I don't know if they are mistakes or not.  The patient is being worked up for lumber pain, DDD, muscle weakness, and a positive ANA. "The patient was having muscle ...

Billing -- A Softer, Gentler Approach ... Sm
Oct 24, 2014

Anybody out there who is focused on the billing aspect more than the coding aspect? I am considering getting my feet wet by starting with billing experience instead of going full-force into coding. Apparently, there is a big fifference.  From what I am reading, billing really leans more towards filling the insurance paperwork, etc.  There are schools everywhere and so many touting "start your own business in medical billing."  I am wary and tired and confused and everything in b ...

Monitoring For Epidural Steroid Injection
Aug 06, 2013

I'm doing a report for an epidural steroid injection for a doctor who speaks extremely fast.  I've done reports for him in the past but can't seem to find my sample reports for him - they seem to have disappeared into thin air!  I really don't want to have to send it to QA.  I'm hoping someone can help.   He says:  "A timeout was performed.  _____ monitoring _____ blood pressure and pulse oximetry were placed."    Any ideas?&nb ...

I'm going completely blank on this one.  The patient entered the hospital for chest pain.  The doc states:  (blank sounds like gel, or jail)   He denies any current discomfort but states when it is present it is usually a mild to moderate degree of pressure about the chest.  He denies any radiation to the _____, arms, or back. ...

Swine Flu Shot?
Apr 14, 2010

Has anyone gotten the swine flu shot, as in those working in hospitals or in home.  They say it is on the rise again and I am debating on whether to get it.  I work at home, so no risk from hospitals, but I do have kids in school to bring it home to me.  They say the 30-somethings (me) get a VERY bad case of it and the kids are usually fine?  So much info and so many decisions, makes you want to wear a mask on a day to day basis. ...

$170.00 FOR A TETANUS SHOT!!!????
Apr 18, 2013

Went to the doctor's office this morning to get my tetanus shot updated because I fell the other day and cut myself and Dr. said my last tetanus shot was 10 years ago.  When I told them I did not have any insurance that it would cost me $170.00 because they were required to charge an "administrative fee" (hospital-owned practice).  I just about swallowed my tongue!  Fortunately the lady checking me in suggested I go to the Health Department and I could get it m ...

Hard Drive Shot...now What?
Jun 21, 2010

OK, here's the scoop. I am working on an older company-provided Dell running XP that's basically on the very last of its legs (got the blue screen of death this morning but was able to finally get to Windows and into my program). I talked with our IT guy today, and he said to get a new hard drive and have the old info transferred (at my expense, because of new company rules). I work on ChartScript.net and asked if that ran on Vista because I could then use my laptop, our only other com ...
