Eye surgery - how do I transcribe 8:30 o'clock - cj

Dictator is clearly stating "8:30 to 10 o'clock position" for eye surgery, how do I transcribe 8:30 o'clock if we are not supposed to use the colon for the position?

The BOS says to type 8:30 if that is what is dictated when stating something other than a whole number.

You have it correct in your statement but don't forget the hyphen:

"8:30 to 10-o'clock position"

I checked BOS, another MT Style Guide, and a straight grammar guide. None of them show a hyphen between the number (time) and o'clock. Just curious how you came to that conclusion?

10.3.4 Clock Referents
When an anatomic position is described in terms of clock-face orientation as seen by the viewer, use o'clock. Do Not transcribe as an expression of time. Hyphenate the expression since it forms a compound modifier preceding and modifying the word "position." If the word "position is not dictated but position, and not time, is clearly implied, transcribe the full expression to avoid confusion.

The incision was made at the 3-o'clock position.
not:
The incision was made at the 3:00 position.

D: The incision was made at 3-o'clock.
T: The incision was made at the 3-o'clock position.

When the clock-face orientation is expressed as a partial hour, omit the word o'clock even if dictated.

D: The cyst was found at the 2:30 o'clock position.
T: The cyst was found at the 2:30 position.

My advice to the OP was based on BOS III reference.

We all have the BOS in some shape or form...no need to waste time retyping it, another poster or not.

The "Old Anon" post referenced looking in multiple resources including the BOS and not seeing it, thereby leading to the conclusion that it was either:

A. An argumentative post.
or
B. She lacked the third edition as a reference.

Perhaps others have a BOS, but not BOS III, in which typing the whole reference would have been helpful not just to Old Anon, but to others who lack BOS III.

Now I wonder who is typing just to keep things stirred up.

I have BOS II. Seeing that BOS III put a hyphen in o'clock position was curious to me, seeing that 2 other authoratative references do not (including BOS II). So stop arguing already. Personally, I'm not going to be putting a hyphen with o'clock position, and I doubt my QA person will even notice.

Thank you. I thought it was strange that he would say a partial hour. I am just trying to picture how a cyst would be located at 3:30 when I assumed they use a clock face but why are they putting the clock hands on there. LOL.

She and I had a few e-mails back and forth about when I should clock out OOW. I'm just...confused. I have been clocking out OOW after doing the usual protocol any time there isn't work and had no issues with that with my old TSM. New TSM said that I only clock out OOW if I am quitting for the day and have no work. She told me checking in during my regular scheduled shift when OOW is "flexing" and so I don't clock out OOW. Can anyone tell me why we need to clock out each time we do work with out hands off the keyboard? I asked if we had to clock out for every Google search, demographic research, doctor name database, etc and was told that we did have to clock out for any time off keyboard. If I am scheduled three 8 hour days at 24 hours a week and I sit her most nights for 8 hours but only get maybe 20 reports but I stayed clocked in because when trained I was told since I was not at 40 I could stay clocked in as they just did not want anyone in overtime. So, now if we have to go to the bathroom or some other thing that pulls away from the computer, we dont clock out otherwise we will be locked out for the shift?
