Dosing abbreviations are never expanded. Micrograms is mcg, milligrams is mg, milliequivalents is mEq, gram is g (G), milliliter is mL, etc.
Where is our 'union' and seeing that all these injustices that are going on are addressed? This profession has been sold to the devil himself. Talk about Kathy Lee's sweat shops? I read for no pay. I type and look up, cross reference, research and no pay. No breaks, no lunch, just production. I have to calculate and make out time sheets and do my own time for no money and then when we type, the programs are calculating in a way that we have no i ...
After failing a test for a PT gig, I pulled out the old BOS 2 (don't have 3) and I am surprised at some of the things it is "requiring". Like, for instance, never hypenate words that will separate them at the end of a sentence. Now, I don't know about you, but what I type in, and what the final report looks like are completely different, so, how am I to know it will actually fall at the end of a line. Another thing, all these dang rules, when most accounts are verbati ...
HELP PLEASE! In typing abbreviations on my account specs, it says following AAMT BOS, but the problem I am having is letters. They are using abbreviations that I should be expanded as it is a letter, (ex. MCP). I have read to expand these, but for the life of me I cannot find it in AAMT BOS... Any help appreciated. Thanks ...
What is even the PURPOSE of the AAMT/AHDI or whatever they call themselves now? They are in no way representative of me or any other MT that I know and in fact have been a key factor in the demise of medical transcription in my opinion. A bunch of no life having harridans trying and unfortunately succeeding in making themselves relevant. In other news, several fellow MTs have written to their state reps regarding offshoring and were told that inquiries into the matter reve ...
Do different medical transcription companies prefer 2nd or 3rd Book of Style? Seems as if I could buy a used 2nd edition from a website such as Amazaon cheaper than the 3rd edition, but I don't want to buy an edition that is not used by medical transcription companies. Your comments, please? TIA- Jane ...
I read a lot of negative stuff on this board about AAMT/AHDI - how they're screwing MTs here at home. Can someone explain? When I was taking the Career Step course all I ever heard were glowing comments about the RMT/CMT exams, Benchmark, etc. - so I'm a little surprised to read the negative comments here. I know that this industry is going down the tubes for lots of reasons, corporate greed probably being #1, and if AAMT/AHDI is a party to this, I'd like t ...
If it is true that our MT corporations are profiting with VR the same as if we were transcribing, well to me that's picking my pocket......So then why isn't AAMT (or whatever) going to bat for us 'editors' and set standards so that companies will pay us our fair share? Just a thought. Wouldn't it be nice if we were told by our companies that from here on in, VR will pay as much as transcribing? pipe dreams huh? ...
On pg 97 of 2nd ed. AAMT it shows non-disease-entity but on pg 330 it shows non was a prefix that doesn't require a hyphen. So, shouldn't it be nondisease-entity ?
I find this so confusing. ...
Whereas, the medical transcriptionist contributes significantly to the delivery and quality of patient care, while also helping to assure appropriate reimbursement, promote research integrity, and fulfill providers’ legal obligations through documentation of health services.
Be it therefore declared that each medical transcriptionist has the following rights:
The right to an appropriate job classification and pay level appropriate to one’s abilities, limitations, and responsibili ...
If anything..they are simply a Sales Convention for MTSOs and only have their interest at heart. There are never topics that relate to working as an MT or being properly represented. Instead we get the never ending changing BOS, or the CMT certification which AGAIN has changed...and btw..took a look a "sample" test and it has NOTHING to do with being an MT! It was more for a clinician. We are language specialists..not clinicians. I have been an MT for over 20 ...
Could someone please tell me why MTs are members of AHDI? Everytime I hear about a new "rule" from the BOS, it does nothing more than lower my line count once again.
I really think that this organization is for the employers, rather than the MTs. The hospitals, etc, want you to follow BOS for all things that cut line counts, but then do it their way for other things. Drives me nuts the amount of times I have heard, this account follows BOS, except for............. & ...
I am currently looking for a new online job. I have been doing medical transcription for nine years now but work for a small hospital. I do not currently have, nor does my hospital require, the AAMT book of style to be the set rules for our transcription department. We still use q.h.s. etc. I recently had a job interview but blew it because the company requires their MTs to know the latest AAMT book of style front and back. Is this a big deal to know this book word for word? Wonderin ...
Hello. It might just be too early but can someone tell me the rule as to when to add A? Like the doc says

In the diagnosis section this doc says "SIRS. Rule out s/l PTI." So, I found SIRS (systemic inflammatory response syndrome) but I can't find out what s/l PTI is to go along with it. Any ideas? ...
murmurs, gallops, or rubs OR murmurs, gallops or rubs?
I am old school and taught that the first is correct, but I waste a huge amount of time and keystrokes correcting this and other instances like this. I looked at the AAMT link, but really didn't get a sufficient answer if the second is OK to leave as that is the preferred way ASR puts it; however, every grammar site I looked at online puts the additional comma in. ...
As American-born, English-speaking doctors are becoming the minority, I think all companies should openly state what percentage of ESL will be encountered in a new job and then ask 1 year of experience for each percentage of ESL; e.g. 40% ESL (the maximum I can personally tolerate) 4 years experience plus a differential in the line rate, too. What do y'all think? ...
EMS responding to a patient who just had ablation for SVT last week and is complaining of weakness and dizziness. Cannot find with much searching. Thanks for your help! ...
This was published in the Federal Register last week, correct? I have a friend who is in a battle with an insurance company over a very sick child. They are always throwing up obstacles for coverage.
She told me that out-of-network treatment is covered at 50% of 200% of Medicare rates. So we are trying to uncover exactly what that rate is. Is the CMS Final Rule document what I am looking for to help her?
Is Coder here? Expert insight would be so appreciated ...
When you get NJA you have the 3 options as we did before. When you choose to "make up time", at the very end of the explaination, it says something along the line of entering a leave request on teamwork for excused no pay?
This only makes sense if in fact you cannot or do not make up the time, but the policy does not explain it that way. Example: You work 2 hours and get NJA. You have 6 hours to make up and can only make up 4. The remaining 2 hours must be en ...
I really don't see what it matters now that we don't get PTO and if we aren't getting paid for it so what. Seems stupid to me that they would care how much time we have off if they aren't paying us anyway but anyone know now the most days you can take for the year part time and full time? I know they took away PTO for part timers and cut it for full time but wasn't sure of the new rules. Also, when does it start over again if you used up your unpaid time off days. ...
no patient name is given? Do we transcribe it as "UNKNOWN, NAME" or "NO NAME, GIVEN" etc? Or where this info is located? I've searched DQS guidelines and TSG and can't seem to find it. TIA! ...
