I signed up for a free college course on Coursera and it says I cannot view the assignment becuase I have Internet explorer 9. It says I need to use Google Chrome or Firefox or Safari. Will this change everything on my computer? I dont like "change" and I am freaked out about putting something on my computer and then not being able to find what I need or whatever.

If I put one of these on my computer, can I remove it? Will it change everything drastically? Is there a way around it? I am sorry I am extremely computer illiterate.

I tried Chrome and really did not like it but was able to uninstall the program. If you try out one of the other ones, decide to uninstall and have problems with your computer, you should be able to restore your computer to a time before the download. I recommend using your "help and support" feature to search "system restore" prior to trying the above, though. Good luck!

on your PC. Just load the browser needed for the course and only use it for that. You can keep your IE for everything else.

Chrome is my preferred browser now, Firefox was for a while. IE is a dinosaur of last resort.

And how do you delete it after the course?

I know this is probably the most basic of questions, but I am clueless. I know my daughter had chrome on her laptop for a while and I hated it.

Click on Windows "start" (lower left corner), choose "settings", choose "control panel". There will be a list of all programs you have on your PC. Scroll down to the browser program you want to delete and choose delete.

I assume you have an icon on your desktop to open IE 9 (or whatever browser you have). If you download another browser, you should have an icon for that too. When you want to use the browser for your class, you just open it, then close it when you are done. When you want to use IE9, you click on the icon and that browser opens up.

It uses a stripped version of IE to create a box where the text of the report is typed. Not saying you can't have other browsers, but Emdat Inscribe does require IE.

If you are on any Windows operating system, then you have IE. It can't be removed. It is default with the OS. I use EMDAT and I don't even open IE, firefox all the way. You don't have to keep it open for the EMDAT to work.

What are your computer specs? DH brought up a good question tonight. I have recently moved from my old faithful with 80 MB hard drive with 512 memory to 380 GB hard drive with 3 MB memory. i have had nothing but problems with Escription and not making my lines. Honestly, why is it that tech wants to make an MTs' life miserable. Just got a new thing to fill out and I cannot open it. I have never used Excel if that is what it is. My computer has no program for me to open it. At any rate, I wonder why these people have to make things so hard. im 48 and need to get out of MT altogether, i cant afford to make it in this economy. Im going to be moving in with a friend for a while to rebuild and want to take some classes. A local hospital is hiring a medical records tech. For experience, all they ask is basic computer experience, knowledge of medical terminology, and a h.s. diploma. Hmmmmm...I've had the terminology certificate for a year, plus a completion certificate for MT and several specialty certs, and I passed the RMT exam. Apparently the MQ mail was down most of the weekend, thus preventing the RTLs from sending their messages of high backlogs or late reports (while I don't consider 30 reports a high backlog that is a vent for another email).
