ExpressScribe Pro expired? So frustrated...... - mtlt

I was in the middle of working on a file on ExpressScribe Pro and a box popped up saying that it had expired and that I would have to purchase it. It had said at the top that it was licensed and my name. I was having issues with playing the files and they sent me an update link to fix it. Now a month later it tells me that my program has expired and that I have to purchase it. I am so frustrated right now and NCH will not answer my questions anymore or respond in any way when I try to contact them. We could lose our jobs over stupid crap like this. Does anybody know of a free file player that will play .DSS files with an Infinity USB footpedal?

Not a player, but you can convert DSS/DS2 to WAVE which you can play in the free version of Express Scribe. And if you didn't know, you can select to keep the free version of Express Scribe and uninstall the PRO component of it. It gives that option while uninstalling. The free version will not play DSS/DS2 though, only WAVE.

This recently happened to a friend where the ES Pro trial period expired and the need to purchase it. I was talking on the phone to her to uninstall ES Pro via add/remove programs. During the process, a message came up asking her about downgrading to the free version and she chose that option. ES now works for her with no problems.

I wasn't on ES Pro trial. I had actually ended up purchasing the full Pro version in January to be able to play files for a company that had just hired me. I didn't have any issues with expiration until I downloaded NCH's update to the ES program that they suggested I do because of an issue with some of the files skipping around or loading and not playing at all. It had previously said that it was licensed to me with my name at the top. After the update had been downloaded, it no longer said that it was licensed to me at the top of the ES window. I have just had to uninstall the program from my computer and redownload the free version to get it to work. $40 down the drain and it still doesn't work as promised.

Why down the drain? Get the NCH people on phone or submit a ticket through their customer support. You are having problem because you tried to upgrade. The NCH people are greedy. Normally, if you purchase a 4.x version of some software, they will let you update until they reach 5.0, but our NCH people here will not even allow you a free upgrade from say 5.50 to 5.51. If you purchased 5.50, then hang on to your setup for that version because your registration will work with only that version and they will demand an upgrade fee or any version above that.

They will not respond to my emails and I am on very limited minutes right now, so I can't be put on hold. The last time was 10 minutes and my phone ran out of minutes. My version was 5.50 and they gave me the update link for the 5.51 and specifically stated in the email that I would be able to use the update because of the issues I was having. I still have all of my registration info.

Does this "downgrade" work for Windows 7? I have a new computer.. IE9/Windows 7. Everything is perfect EXCEPT pro (purchased due to footpedal issues!) doesn't play the entire voice file, it cuts off at about 5 seconds before the end AND the quality of sound sucks! This would be GREAT if i can downgrade to free version with new computer....

Just go to Add-Remove and begin its uninstall process. It will give you the option mid-way.

...that I paid money out to them, am having such horrible issues, they don't contact you for days, and I need to go back to FREE version, which is MUCH better than PRO.... i think they know this, charge "sale price" for PRO, knowing that we will go back to free version, not mess with asking for money back cuz it's a pain.. they make dollars and cents, we get ripped off! ugh

I went to uninstall the Pro purchased version. It got to the point of uninstalling - never came up to free option. I am scared to hit enter - I have a feeling that the free version is NOT an option since I purchased the software and it is not the trial. Did your friend already have the free version on her computer?

I stumbled across an actual download for an older version. I got rid of pro (uninstalled AND went to NCH folder and deleted the whole thing)! I have it loaded, but will do further testing tomorrow..but so far, it seems legit!

I had read there is a truly free version of Express Scribe, but I downloaded that from their site and it expired after 14 days, before I even got to start working. When a doctor uses markers at the beginning of each patient's dication in a recording, how can I access those in Express Scribe when listening to it? I can load it into the dock, but it says there are 0 minutes of dictation. If I play it on Windows Media, it says I need a codec. I don't know what that is. I have been having an issue with ExpressScribe. I took a test a couple of weeks ago for a job I should have aced, but halfway into the dictation, it sounded like the dictator was on a cell or in a tunnel. I'm used to being able to tap the middle pedal once and it automatically rewinds a few seconds, know what I mean? Was given some sample dictation to listen to and could play it on Google Chrome and it sounded very clear, but when I played it with Express Scribe (even using the special audio processes) it sounded a lot worse - more like in a tin can and a bit scratchy.
