So, our hospital outsourced and that did not work for me. I am looking for another job, but from what I see, what used to be a valued service is now a low cents per line and you have to work nights and every weekend for half the pay. When were we so devalued and how are they able to take this from us. I am now looking at school because as a widow and two boys to still raise, I can't make it is the income. I am not a slow transcriptionist, but I can't settle for the price they are paying. From what I see, MTs used to work for the doctors and get the full price, and now there are contract companies who take half our money and we work for them for the other half. Sorry for my dismay today, but needed to get it out. Kim

I'm doing fine now, but for years I was a divorcee raising a child. It wasn't easy. I can't imagine how rough it must be raising two.

My own experience was much different from yours, but I know that many others have described feeling just like you do.

The best thing may be to see if you can get an Administrative Assistant position or some other situation at a hospital where you are paid hourly. Things are tough everywhere these days and they may be facing cutbacks too though, so it may take some time to find something. I know my state is and my city is in real trouble right now, so state and city jobs are in short supply. This morning I heard from a teacher who was just let go because they are having to cut back.

Good luck with your decisions. My opinion is that almost no person or company is really doing well these days. It probably doesn't help much to hear that you are not alone.

Times are tough all over. Just heard that some of our receptionists at the hospital I worked for got laid off today too. The problem with admin assistant is that our hospital paid the MTs handsomely and I would still take a 25% pay cut if not 50%. I will keep trying for dislocated workers program in MN to go to school. Wouldn't be as hard if I were the second income, but outch!

Welcome to our world, Kim. My line rate has been cut to less than it was 3 years ago. I've been transcribing for nearly 20 years and instead of getting raises, I'm getting line cuts. They say, the hospitals are cutting their line rates. I don't believe it. One of the Managers, who called me to take the cpl cut said that it was across the board. When I pressed her on, she admitted it was only the transcriptionists, who early 10 cpl. Of course, corporate keeps their cushy salaries.

I didn't know anywhere around here that outsourced so I guess I never was too concerned. After we went with this company a huge huge medical facility with satellites also went to them. Maybe we are one of the last states to get on board with what others are doing. Eventually I would think they would cut it low enough where no one would do it. Just hard to know what to do in a small community. I know I will find something. Sorry for the years I didn't pay attention.

I've been doing this 14 years and it's been bad probably 12 of those. I make less money now as an IC than I did 14 years ago. I have to pay my own taxes, and I have no write offs because everything is over the internet. I still can't figure out how someone with no education takes a cut of my pay when the hospital could pay be directly. She doesn't nothing for the money she takes. It's not her software, it's the hospitals. She doesn't answer email until the hospital notices mistakes and then she will answer the question that everyone was asking, that the hospital noticed the mistakes on. It's been messed up a long time. Friend of mine noticed one time when were were training at a company in Virginia that all the management drove BMWs and Lexus and all the MTs had beat up cars. It was true. Let them transcribe for a day and get paid peanuts. Again, we should all stop working for a day or two. Pick a date and do it.

I am just venting. I took a position with a company a few months ago as a secondary income and the platform and dictators are great - very easy to make good money. The problem is there's not enough work to hit my daily line counts and when I ask for more, I kind of get the brush off. It baffles me because there are other accounts in which they have work and they have even needed to post job openings and yet, I sit with no work. Frustrated that even though I have stressed my proficiency in ED work, I am still forced to do other work types first, while yet others are getting ED work types in their "pools"... I would think you would want someone who types fast in a certain area be allowed to crank that work out first and then when it runs out, let the other work types they are not so good at roll into their pool.... The pdf electronic version of BOS-2 was so handy and easy to use. Wonder what made them decide to do away with that & make it to where you have to open a browser, find the link, sign in, find the BOS page, etc., for the 3rd edition.
