TAA expired today...new one? - timerunningout

Woman warrior transcriptionists.... really this industry has hit bottom.

The TAA certification re: Medquist, which was established to allow MQ employees deprived of humane treatment a chance at (gasp!) higher education has expired.

Does ANYONE know how or who can get another one going? The problem of outsourcing has not stopped, and it will only get worse, we know this.

Back in early 2010, I had to apply for partial unemployment because I kept getting NJA all the time. I got the unemployment and tried to apply for the TAA benefts but was told no, I had to be officially laid off and with a letter from the Q stating such fact. At the time I asked my CCM about the TRA benefits and was told that they were only available to the CCM's that got canned back in late 2009 or whenever it was that they got rid of a bunch of management people and that the TRA "wasn't meant for the transcriptionists."

They will NEVER give this benefit to us, in my opinion. They will just keep working us and QA'ing us to death until we quit. They will never lay us off.

That being said, you were fed a line and your CCM should be accountable for discouraging you.

You have to be laid off or given a date in the future of a lay off and you are NOT eligible until you are laid off. You can apply before, when you were threatened or partially separated, but you will not be able to go to school until you are laid off. Applied and turned down.

You are absolutely correct, you do have - Ex MQ MT

to actually be laid off, have letter from MQ, and be receiving unemployment. I also applied and was turned down. MQ is not going to lay off any of its MTs, too expensive for them to pay out unemployment.

I was in the middle of working on a file on ExpressScribe Pro and a box popped up saying that it had expired and that I would have to purchase it. It had said at the top that it was licensed and my name. I was having issues with playing the files and they sent me an update link to fix it. Now a month later it tells me that my program has expired and that I have to purchase it. I am so frustrated right now and NCH will not answer my questions anymore or respond in any way ...

I had read there is a truly free version of Express Scribe, but I downloaded that from their site and it expired after 14 days, before I even got to start working. I read that you can uninstall the software then download again, but when I try to reinstall, iI get a pop-up stating my trial has expired and will not let me re-download. My PC Shorthand license expires 4/5, which is today. I took that to mean I could renew today for my yearly license. I was wrong. Logged on to work today and see that PC Shorthand is expired. DQS is driving me crazy today. When I push the pedal, it takes a couple seconds to start playing. If I let off the pedal, it keeps going for a couple seconds and I can't get it to stop. The typing I am doing does not keep up with my finger speed either, with words not showing up until after I've typed them. I use my own computer and have never encountered this issue before. It is a major hindrance though, slowing me down. What's next? ...
