Alternative to ExpressScribe - mtlt

I desperately need an alternative to ES. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling for the free trial version several times. I finally kept getting a message that I could no longer download the free trial, so I purchased the Pro version because I was promised that I was also paying for tech support. The program keeps freezing up. I am having an awful time loading files. Yesterday afternoon I was trying to load files and it took me an entire 4 hours to get 15 files loaded with no more than 30 seconds of dictation on each file. It keeps telling me that the (.dss) files I am trying to load are not compatible. I have also tried uninstalling ES version 4.15, but still have the same problem. I am considering DigiTel, but I would like suggestions on file players along with pros, cons, and costs for each one. I had tried The Record Player yesterday, but it wouldn't play .dss files.

Change the file, not the player. Program Switch will change DSS - to format supported by ES. Free trial. nm

I am mostly working on .dss files and haven't had any wav files in a while, but every once in a while I do get a few wav files. I can't even get them to load, but was really not as worried about the other file types because I seldom get those. I also tried loading some mp3 files with no luck. I really need an alternative. I am also unable to open the ES program on the first try. It takes me about 10-15 tries on average to even get the program to open. I am behind right now and have to get something that is going to work as promised. I can't even get ahold of tech support and haven't heard back from them even though I have been sending at least one report a day since I started having issues with loading files.

Have you tried tech support for Switch. Maybe tell 'em you need help so you - can decide if this is going to work for you. nm

Program Switch is from NCH as is ES. I have not been able to get a response from tech support for the ES that I purchased, so I don't know that it will be any different here. I will try again, but am almost 100% sure that I will not be using any more programs from NCH.

I am trying to use Program Switch, but it keeps telling me that there is "No audio detected in the file" I know that there is because I was finally able to load the file onto ES yesterday and there is dictation on it. I am also trying to load files that I had done in the past with no success.

I had problems with my computer last week and inadvertantly uninstalled my Express Scribe and could not get it to load again. I kept trying to configure the footpedal and it kept wanting me to purchase the program. I recently tested for a company who happened to have a link to ES on their website to be able to test and I downloaded it with no problems. I just checked and the version is 4.01 and you can go in and place checkmarks next to the files you want to associate the files with, so just do a search for that version and it should work. I also have Windows 7 and it worked fine. Hope this helps -- It can be frustrating!

When a doctor uses markers at the beginning of each patient's dication in a recording, how can I access those in Express Scribe when listening to it? I have e-mailed the company twice, and the first reply was totally unrelated to my question. There was no reply to the second query. I can load it into the dock, but it says there are 0 minutes of dictation. If I play it on Windows Media, it says I need a codec. I don't know what that is. I was in the middle of working on a file on ExpressScribe Pro and a box popped up saying that it had expired and that I would have to purchase it. It had said at the top that it was licensed and my name. I was having issues with playing the files and they sent me an update link to fix it. I have been having an issue with ExpressScribe. I took a test a couple of weeks ago for a job I should have aced, but halfway into the dictation, it sounded like the dictator was on a cell or in a tunnel.
