Anyone who uses your PC for MT work, do you have a security program on it? - Sap SM

Posted: Jan 01, 2011

What I mean is,  if your company has any type of keystroke or time monitoring software on there.

If you use your own computer for personal use and have banking records or other misc on there,  do you have a program that locks out the company software, only allowing them to monitor their own stuff and not yours?

Is there even such a program?    I need one.    Thanks.

My company does monitor our keystrokes. I also use my own PC for work, along with everything else I do, including banking.

Can they monitor our PC other than the time we're logged on? And can they wander around my hard drive? Scary thoughts are going through my mind.

and not sharing access to your personal information? I could be mistaken, but you can control who has access to what programs on your computer by doing it this way. My PC is partitioned so I can run XP and Vista simultaneously. What is available through XP is not available through Vista unless I grant access and even assign passwords in some instances.

Your employer would be unable to monitor even keystrokes if, for example, you accessed your banking account through XP and the employer went in through Vista (or Win 7 as the case may be).

This sounds good. I've had a hard drive partitioned before. sm - Sap

On another computer years ago. I actually have 2 right now; my laptop which is for fun and play time, and the desktop which will be for IC work.

I have a small account that is for a psychiatric provider who deals with Federal prisoners. Therefore, that is why I don't want ANYONE having any kind of access to those files. The psych account is on my laptop now, but I'd really like to put it on the desktop just so its easier to sit in a chair at a desk and work. When using the laptop for working, I'm on the couch and not always the most comfortable.

The desktop, however, was at one time used for personal and I dont know how to clean and wipe it of info. It's Win XP system. That's going to be tomorrow's project, going thru it and deleting things.

Then, I will be getting my PC guru out here to partition the hard drive and show me how to password protect it and such.

Very good idea, thank you so much.

I would assume the monitoring is built right into DQS and that is it. I do know that if you have someone from say HP or Dell help you on issues with your computer, you have to authorize them to view your computer. Each time they do. Not sure if it's quite the same, but I wouldn't worry too much about them monitoring anything else. As I said, I believe it would be built right into the DQS software and monitors only the keystrokes on that. I guess you never know though.

I am looking into transcribing for a doctor from 1000 miles away.  I currently work in his office but will be moving.  He is concerned about the security of his files during transfer and also when they get on my computer...("How can I be sure my files are secure once they are on your computer?").  Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions for this situation? Thanks everyone. ...

Social Security Taxes
Jan 11, 2011

This is my first year to work solely as an IC.  I have been sending quarterly taxes in to the IRS using the form 1040 payment vouchers they supplied.  It has just occurred to me that I don't know if any of the money I am sending in is going to Social Security tax.  I am not sure how it is allocated.  I send in 25-30% of my earnings.  Can anyone with more knowledge about this help me understand?  Thanks so much!  ...

A Matter Of National Security?
Sep 28, 2012

With the nature of world affairs and US relations such as they are, I can't help but think how wrong it is for companies in general, but specifically MTSOs, to be sending highly sensitive information overseas the way they do. It scares me to think about my social security number, date of birth, address, etc. being handled by someone who doesn't necessarily feel the sense that they must protect that information. Maybe instead of complaining about how much work is being offshored, we s ...

Okay, maybe I didn't work that year but I still had 40 credits then. Now, I tried to apply and they want my W2 for 2008 according to the online applications. SS called me today. They show no wages for me in 2005. Send a W2, but they do have 2008 and  i don't have to send that. They show les ...

New Physican Look Up For "security" Reasons??
Sep 12, 2010

I don't get the email with the FAQ's about 6.1 says that the new physician look up (that apparently they are getting a lot of complaints from MTs about) is because of a security issue with choosing the wrong doctor.  Well, I could understand THAT, but I don't see how this new slower way makes any difference in that regard....you could still JUST as easily choose the wrong doctor this way too.    The way they can and SHOULD address the problem of choosing the wrong ...
