Do you want to have the MT transcribing in real time? How do you think that would work? Have you ever done medical transcription?
Even the most highly trained, experienced, tippy-top-notch MT would struggle to transcribe dictation in real time, even with that unicorn of the medical world, the clear, concise, dictator who speaks at the perfect pace for transcription, never changes his mind, never slurs a word, and never, ever says anything that requires research. What happens if the MT gets behind and there is no recording of what was said? There would be no way to go back and fill in what was missed. Asking the dictator to repeat what was said likely would not end well.
Medical transcription is not like court reporting, which appears on the surface to be transcription done in real time, but it is not. Court reporting is a form of shorthand that needs to be reviewed offline and then turned into something ordinary mortals can understand.
Medical transcription is different. Maybe what you need is a scribe to record the encounter in real time. That is not the same as transcription.

...might suggest she is talking about being a scribe but not wanting to be in the same room as patient.
I can't understand a couple of words and every time I let off the foot pedal and replay, I hear "Cracklin Rosie, get on board." "Cracklin Rosie, get on board." "Cracklin Rosie, get on board."

Is there a way to have a doctor dictate and upload into an ftp without any other company involved like My Docs Online, etc???? Is it HIPPA compatible?

but I just did a report on a 10 month old that fell from the sofa to the carpeted floor and supposedly got a skull fracture. Not one word was said about an investigation of child abuse, but I find this sort of thing worrisome. I sure hope SOMEONE will look into any case like this, whether it is dictated or not. ...
Does anybody know of a good software program or system where the doctor can dictate into a digital recorder from his office, upload it to my computer and that I could transcribe using a footpedal (that I already have) and then upload it and send it back to the doctor? The doctor would like to start using a digital system ASAP, so any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ...
I'm considering dropping to PT from FT. I guess I'll lose my medical benefits, such as it is.
I checked on the Blue Cross/BS site and for one of the "affordable" plans for an individual, the monthly premiums/deductibles, etc. are about the same. At first I was thinking I couldn't afford to go to PT as I need medical benefits, but now I'm not so sure.
Has anyone dumped MQ's HRA from United and gone Blue Cross and are happy with it? ...
Patient had root canal and is now having swelling, maybe abscess.
For context: Oropharynx does show swelling and erythema around the lower posterior tooth. There is some s/l flocculence noted but no purulent drainage.
Thanks. ...
Hello. Ok, so here is the sentence:
No teeth infection or
No tooth infections or
No teeth infections or
No tooth infection?
When do you use the "s" on infection, with teeth or tooth? When do I use no "s" after infection, with teeth or tooth. This is turning into a tongue twister!
Thank you.

It is obvious she is referring to the pulse ox, but I can not figure out what PT could mean in this context. Has anyone heard this before, and if so, what does it stand for?

It's a sad realization that while I was a fairly decent medical transcriptionist, I am not good at editing. I made 3 critical errors in one day. I don't really have an excuse. I caught a bazillion errors as I had some pretty bad dictations yesterday but missed a lab error 50.3 instead of 50.8, a diagnosis VR typed hemangioma and it was supposed to be meningioma. There was one other stupid one. I'm not too proud to admit, I am just not cut out for this. I'm not sure if ...

Thanks is advance for your time and your help!

The following sentence was dictated:
"Patient brought to the operating room and __ placed supine on the operating table." The __ word sounds like it starts with "sw", but I'm not able to make it out. It makes since for the word to be "was" because it fits the sentence, but I'm not sure. Any ideas??
Thanks!

Ok, I've been getting a lot of doctors saying this. That patients can go to/return to what s/l CPAP (see pap).
Is this correct? I'm not sure if it's a nickname for another local facility either. I have a list of commonly referred to places for this client and nothing like CPAP is on there.
Just curious. ...

I recently moved into a small two bedroom house. It's an older house with a very creepy basement that is not finished, is damp, and just gross. Until I can afford to convert the garage or re-do the basement, my teenaged son has one bedroom and my 8yo daughter and I share the the master BR. Meanwhile my husband sleeps in the LR on the couch (our relationship is basically that of friends now who can't afford divorce). Anyway, my desk currently is in the LR. ...
So I just took a HIPAA course regarding the "new rules" regarding our liabilities and obligations under the law. I often get dictations by doctors who are obviously working at home with their kids running freely (and loudly) through the room, and perhaps a caretaker's voice now and then. If its a HIPAA violation for ME to have other people listening to dictation, isn't the doctor dictating in the presence of others who obviously have no business hearing that dictation a rep ...
20 years ago when the DRG's hit the hospitals, one was complaing to the other... "they treat doctors like a bunch of old dogs now". Well, that's how MTs are being treated now. Why on God's green earth do the MT services require all MT's to work at least one weekend day every week (Friday's and Monday's don't count). Every ad I see on the Job Seeker board requires weekends. Are they sadistic or something. Why do we put u ...
