I think acute care means doing the basic 4 (H&P's, consults, ops, and discharges).
Inpatient Dictation - MT

In addition to the Basic 4, which would encompass all specialties, acute care is the inpatient stuff that you won't see in clinic. It encompasses all specialties, and there are medications used that you won't see in clinic reports. It also involves ESL dictator and hospital background noise. ER reports are more toward clinic, most of the time.
I know, more than you asked for, but for others who aren't sure...
I have worked for 3 MTSOs and 1 local hospital as an acute care MT, and they all - sm

consider ER as part of acute care.
Since the word "acute" means of rapid onset or severe course, then acute care can cover anything that fits that definition. I think that if you have acute care experience, they know that you can handle ER work, too. I also transcribe urgent care documents for my current acute care account, as urgent care would also meet the criteria for acute care. I don't mind that it isn't all just inpatient stuff and op notes. I like the variety. I also sometimes get urgent clinic work and even stat radiology reports because they know I can transcribe every type of report and that makes me their "go-to" person. The more versatile you are, the more marketable your skills can be.
