Blue Cross/Blue Shield versus MQ HRA.... - Kiki1

Posted: May 30, 2011

I'm considering dropping to PT from FT.  I guess I'll lose my medical benefits, such as it is.

I checked on the Blue Cross/BS site and for one of the "affordable" plans for an individual, the monthly premiums/deductibles, etc. are about the same.  At first I was thinking I couldn't afford to go to PT as I need medical benefits, but now I'm not so sure.

Has anyone dumped MQ's HRA from United and gone Blue Cross and are happy with it?

Dropped MQ HRA, but not for BC/BS - MQ insurance scam

I actually just went to the UHC website and found insurance for my son and I that was $100 cheaper per month, deductable $500 less, and covered 100% once deductable is met. (Dependent upon age, however). Don't know how MQ/UHC gets away with charging more when the UHC website offers better deals going privately.

Not to be nosy, but what age was that for? This is good information but at 61, I am thinking it would be higher for me.

Not sure if you are asking me or other poster, but - Kiki1

when I went to the BC/BS site, if I do recall it was age dependent. A policy for a single person would start at around 78 per month. I know I pay just for myself 128 for MQ's HRA. Not sure how much more they charge at what age, but I'm waiting on a phone call from them.
Let us know - Ang

Thanks Kiki1 for the response - and every else too - would you please let us know if you find that age makes a substantial difference - am going to look around too - have been feeling for a long time like dropping a few hours and the ins. factor has always been the deciding issue. That's about what I pay too (128 through MQ) - just for me at 61.

You can go to this site (sorry the link is so long I copy and pasted, see below) and it will bring you to a page where you can enter your age and get a quote. If the quote is higher than you want, you can also try what another poster did--she got a better quote from United by going thru them on her OWN rather than thru MQ (go figure that one). BC of my age my quote for Blue Cross (and in I'm CA) is a tad higher than MQ's HOWEVER it's a bit better coverage (not an HRA either) I'm going to try going thru United privately, as I too, want to drop to PT--not concerned about the 401k since they don't contribute anymore; I;ll just move it to a Roth when I can afford it again. Here's the link:

I very much appreciate your taking the time to send this! I had gone into BC on line before I enrolled and believe I too found the cost a bit higher. Will try again and also check out the United suggestion. I honestly think when we have more time, we can be more frugal and dropping a few hours and having a less stressed life means a heckuva of lot - if there is an insurance option.
Tx again.

Still a pup at 30, though - but I would still look around

I'm still young yet, which is why I could get a better deal, but I would still look around at other health insurance places. What MQ is providing is absolutely ridiculous.

Wow. Thanks, I'm going to check that out.....and - Kiki1

what a bunch of scammers; I'm sure it's all MQ....one of the benefits of having health insurance thru your employer is supposed to be a good deal on health insurance. But then again, look at what company we are dealing with. I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually charging us more per month and pocketing the rest unbeknownst to UHC.

The reason it is so high is multifactorial, but I am currently appealing a claim with UHS, so I found out through the appeal process that MedQuist is SELF-INSURED. UHS just administers the benefit. They are not the reason for this ridiculous policy, it is all on the backs of MedQuist. Quite amazing when you think about it.

I have looked and looked in word options under every single thing and cannot find out how to change the background to "blue" instead of white.  I also think it would be easier on the eyes.  I once tried this at a different job by right clicking on the desktop and going in that way under properties, to colors, etc but ended up messing the whole thing up.  I can't afford to do that unless I know step by step how to do this.  Does anybody know how to do this in word 07?&nb ...
