Windows 7 and ShortCut text expander problems. - FlaMt

So I bought a new PC and it runs Win7.

I've got everything up and running, my platform and audio player works great.

BUT...I can't get my expander to work properly. I can install it and start it and it looks like it's running fine but when I enter text that should expand, it just doesn't. At all, in any program (Word, Firefox, notepad, etc). Their site says that it should work just fine in any Windows-based program and it has since Win98, up until now.

We all know how important these kinds of programs are to us, so if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

I am not a computer expert by any means. I had never heard of ShortCut before and am thinking about getting a new expander, so I decided to check out what it was. I have VISTA.

You may have already seen this, but I noticed that for the free trial they had this message:

**Before installing this program, VISTA and Windows 7 users need to disable the User Account Control in Control Panel. Select User Account, User Account, disable user account control.

Maybe you have to do the same thing when you transfer it from one computer to another. I imagine you can turn it back on after you are sure ShortCut is running correctly.

If you did not see this, maybe you can give it a try, and reinstall your ShortCut.

I've been using this program for over 10 years now and it's super easy to learn and use. It's worked in every platform I've ever used (including Editscript and Chartscript) and haven't ever needed to change. There's only 1 thing I've found it doesn't do....when you have a "normal" that has fields in it, it doesn't recognize the fields as a command (at least not that I have found). But I just use the ALT+F3 (Autotext) function in Word for those. Works out fine for me.

Did you check in "Tools" to make sure it's "on". Make sure it has the default setting (I think it's ALT]) for turning Shortcut on and off. I tried changing the key to turn it off and on, but it does't work and kept turning it "off".

Hey there! If anyone else using SpeedType with Win 7 (either post upgrade or OEM) this solution applies as well! Hope this helps!

I was using an old version of Shortcut for Windows and it was working nicely on my old puter. I got a new puter for Christmas (Thanks to my hubby - I think he wants me to type faster/more!) and I can't find my disk to load the Shortcut software onto the new puter - I'm not even sure it would work on Windows 8. I call the telephone number on my program disc and they said that the company that developed Shortcut for Windows had been bought out by Superior Global but that they were allowed to provide tech support for Shortcut. They were able to get mine to work with Windows 7 and M/S Word on the new computer but said that Shortcut would not be able to go past Windows 7 and that I should start looking for another word expander and start transferring short forms or macros over now while I have time. ...

Does anyone out there know how to use ShortCut for Windows with Escription? I've used ShortCut for 14 years, have like 46,000 entries. Has anyone had any problems using the Shortcut for Windows word expander with the Editscript platform? It's always worked fine in the past when I used to use Voicescribe. It also works fine in everything else currently that I use. When I expand a word it in Editscript, the expanded word moves back a couple spaces and cuts off the previous word I had typed. I've used Shortcut for Windows for years always on a Word-based platform. Now I am using it in SpeechMotion which is not Word based. I need to know if there is anyway in Shortcut to set up a code to jump where I need to enter text. I have normal templates in Shortcut and have used an * to indicate a jump-to field. I have been having something unusual happen with my Shorthand expander. I think I messed it up when I was doing some changing and ever since then I have not been able to expand an abbreviation when I am in the actual SH screen. I used to just hit enter and it would populate my document, but now it doesn't do anything at all at that point. I purchased ShortsCuts for Windows word expander back in 1999. It will not work with Vista or anything after that. I tried contacting the company I purchased it from but had no luck. I received Speedtype from the school I am going through to learn Medical Transcription. It worked fine and then we started having computer issues and my husband decided to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. I have a new computer with Windows 7. I use Microsoft Word 2003 and Instant Text for my job. I downloaded the trial version of Instant Text that is supposed to work with Windows 7, and it does work, it just will not stay linked to my Word document.
