I need suggestions please - MTtoo

I stopped doing transcription last year around this time and worked for Medquist. Now I'm trying to get back to work and have several tests to take. My problem is that I never had to worry about a medical spellcheck with Medquist and don't have one of my own on my computer and can't afford to buy one just now. On one test, the e-mail I received from the recruiter specified that the test doesn't have a medical spell check, so I could do the document in Word, spell check it, and then paste it back into the test site. I'm such a dummy, really. I don't even have Word but realize I'll have to purchase that since many other companies use that platform, but I do have Microsoft Works Word Processor which is where I suppose I'll be using to take at least one of these tests. I found some free medical word spellchecks on the Net, but I'm thinking what I'll have to do is key in the word on that site and that that spellchecker won't work with the Works program which is going to be a real pain in the butt! Am I missing something glaringly obvious? I did mention my being a dummy... I'm so nervous trying to get back in the swing of things that I can't even think straight!

You can do it in any word document and paste into test. I have a question... why would you want to come back into this field... so many of us are running from it. Pay is low, IC jobs no one wants employees its like winning lottery to get one...so many risks. I have not made more than min. wage in 3 years and thats with 2 jobs. I have been MT for 15 and I am about to lose my home, car, we have no food. I was raising 3 kids on this with no problems until few yrs ago and in one year my pay dropped 10,000 next yr another 10,000.. your choice but there is much better flipping burgers you make more

The problem is that I don't have a medical spellchecker. I don't see any other options except to download the freebie and just key in words to check. I didn't have to worry about all of that with Medquist.

I don't have a lot of options, and I hate flipping burgers. I love transcription. I don't have to worry about buying clothes, getting on the freeway every day, etc. Also, it isn't just me having to bear the load, and I no longer have small children to worry about. If I had to deal with all of that, I'd be in huge trouble. It's not that we aren't struggling, as now we're getting by on unemployment extended benefits; my guy is the only one who was laid off and the only one eligible to draw. But like I said, I love the work for the most part, but I do miss the old days terribly! I just don't have other options that would work for me right now.

It's terrible that so many are struggling in this great country of ours, but it looks like corporate greed can't be fought... feels crappy doesn't it! I hope things get better for you.

I used to FOR YEARS and years, just hit shift H and typed in cur and it spelled </CURRENT MEDICATIONS/> Now with this 6.1 upgrade, it spells out </CURRENT ALLERGIES/> and I am messing up big time with reports. I can't make money with VR and I know there has to be a way for me to work faster or something. I type so much faster than I do editing. I am looking for suggestions for a keyboard. I have the Logitech Illuminated wired keyboard presently with a plastic cover, which I really like, but the cover is pushing over the f, g and h keys. Instead of wasting time advertising on the job board, reviewing resumes, etc., why not give some of us MTs those accounts? Why not at least OFFER your current MTs more work, before hiring more?
