Need keyboard suggestions - Tiny

Posted: Sep 26, 2012

I need a new keyboard. I have been through 2 in the past 2 years and the letters mostly wear off of the keys. It wouldn't be a big deal, except I need to still look at certain keys to do certain keyboard functions that I'm not totally used to doing yet, like control/n, etc. Does anyone have a keyboard that stands the test of time as far as the letters being visible on the keys.

Dell - Old MT

I've been pounding on my Dell for years with nothing worn off. Model SK-8135. It's "heavy" too, so it doesn't slide all over the desk! It came with my computer, but I would imagine you could pick one up separately.

Have you considered - Xena

just putting new labels on the keys you can't remember? Seems like that would be a more economical solution than replacing a keyboard you like just because the labels wore off.

I write in the letters that have rubbed off with a fine-tip white oil-based marker that I got at an artist's supply shop.

That's an excellent suggestion - Xena

Too often it seems we have lost the ability to make even minor repairs. It doesn't make sense to spend money to replace something for a minor problem that can easily be fixed.
same prob here but permanent ink pen did not - work. Rubbed right off. sm

Bought it to have a guitar autographed and it worked for that, but the keyboard? Nope. Even the built-in on my laptop is losing some markings now, mostly the M, N, comma and period.

Sad. Build cheap, charge more seems to be the way of the world now. That's anti up and fold to the buyer.

Tried both :) - Tiny

I've tried the markers and the nail polish, neither lasted very long unfortunately.

I'm not particularly attached to this keyboard and don't find it to be very functional. I was considering going with an ergonomic or something with some wrist support.

clear nail polish on every key. I've been doing it for quite a while and the keys are good as new. Only takes a little bit and when the polish starts to wear off, I reapply it.

Logitech - nn

I had the same problem with my Logitech; however, I called them and they replaced the keyboard free of charge and actually, they have replaced two keyboards, when the other one developed a problem and stopped working.

Interesting.... - tiny

This keyboard that I'm using is a Logitech. It was given to me by my office to use at home and I think it was already used when I got it.

My Microsoft keyboard is a total trooper. - -(sm)-Meerkat

Yes, the letters are finally wearing off, but it just keeps on going. I've spilled coffee on it, Coca-Cola, I eat over it so there are crumbs on/in it, and all that is covered in a layer of dust and cat hair. The thing is a veritable biohazard, and yet... it still works as well as the day I bought it.

Go Ergo - anon

I use an ergo keyboard and I can see the keys very well. It is also very beneficial in helping to prevent hand and wrist problems such as carpal tunnel and tenosynovitis.

I have tried everything you can imagine, including tiny stick ons. The best so far is (I have a black keyboard) a nail pen (Diva Couture/nail studio) I got in a CVS drug store. It lasts a few months and is very easy to apply.

Looking For Suggestions For A Keyboard
Oct 09, 2012

I am looking for suggestions for a keyboard.  I have the Logitech Illuminated wired keyboard presently with a plastic cover, which I really like, but the cover is pushing over the f, g and h keys.  Is there a keyboard out there that can withstand our hours of typing?  I went with the illuminated keyboard as the letters were laser etched, but wound up rubbing the letters off this keyboard, as well as the standard keyboard.  Thank you for the suggestions in advance. ...

Keyboard Suggestions
Jan 20, 2015

Hello,  I have been doing medical transcription for around 8 years and have been using a split Microsoft keyboard but I think it is time for a change. I have to keep the keyboard tilted to the left a little in order for it to feel comfortable. I do not know if that is because I am left-handed of what but that is the way that feels most comfortable to me.  I was wondering what most people are using right now. I have seen a couple of keyboards that are totally split with either a hinge ...

Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro...need A New Keyboard, Any Recommendations?
Apr 03, 2010

Microsoft has discontinued these great keyboards and I need a new one.  Anybody aware of a split keyboard that has a really nice touch (remember those old IBM keyboards?) for transcription work by Microsoft or another brand that you really like? I'm open for suggestions please ; 0  My only complaint with this one is the keys are a bit clunky to press down (especially the space bar).  Thanks! ...

Jul 13, 2010

Hello everyone.  I am another one of those lower Alabama MT's.  I really need some pointers on what to do here.  When I started transcribing a few years back, my mentor told me once I got the grip, that I needed to consider getting my own accounts and eliminate the middle man and I would do so much better.  Well.....easier said that done!! I am the sole provider for my family.  I have three kids.  I find myself raking and scraping every two weeks to make ends ...

Any Suggestions On What To Do With The 6.1
Sep 13, 2010

I used to FOR YEARS and years, just hit shift H and typed in cur and it spelled </CURRENT MEDICATIONS/>  Now with this 6.1 upgrade, it spells out </CURRENT ALLERGIES/> and I am messing up big time with reports.  THIS IS ASR WORK AND YOU ARE FLYING QUICKLY THROUGH THE REPORT.  On a lot of ASR reports, I have to add the headings in.  I am so used to hitting CUR and expecting CURRENT MEDICATIONS which I have done for many years and quite frankly, I am not looking a ...

Some Suggestions.
Feb 28, 2011

You all may already know this, but I am passing it along because I just found out.  I kept running out of work on the weekend and on the backlog I could see that there were jobs in the red that I normally work on for backup but they were not flowing to me.  I called the RTL hotline and spoke to a lady there.  I told her the deal and she said that she didn't show me as being scheduled to work that day so they did not add me to that pool.  Evidently on helper pools or ...

Apr 30, 2011

After having my pay cut by half over the past 9 months, I realize that I need to get out of MT and in a bad way.  I wish I had never gone to school for this. I just can no longer stand for having pay cut after pay cut every year with no end in sight.  I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on other jobs that I could do from home. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology along with my CMT.  I have young kids with medical problems, so I need to be able to be h ...

I Need Suggestions Please
Jul 13, 2011

I stopped doing transcription last year around this time and worked for Medquist.  Now I'm trying to get back to work and have several tests to take.  My problem is that I never had to worry about a medical spellcheck with Medquist and don't have one of my own on my computer and can't afford to buy one just now.  On one test, the e-mail I received from the recruiter specified that the test doesn't have a medical spell check, so I could do the document in Word, ...

I can't make money with VR and I know there has to be a way for me to work faster or something.  I type so much faster than I do editing.  Today I've worked 11 hours and have made $28, that's only 700 lines.  I normally could have typed at least 2000 lines and made my 9 cpl per day if I worked that long.  I'm going broke.  Bills aren't getting paid, and we all know there just aren't jobs out there right now, especially in your 50's.&nbs ...

Every time you "improve" them, for some STRANGE reason, it gets harder and harder to do a day's work on them.
