What is your average LPH straight typing - ?

I was never given a minimum LPH, but I feel I'm not getting a good line count. I've been here about a couple months, straight typing, Ambulatory. Just wondering what others are averaging and any tips to improve line count? I've been doing this for 10 years, but have always been paid hourly before coming here.

it was 183 lph, the week before was 174 lph, and the week before that was 228 lph, for a grand lph average for 3 weeks of 195 lph. I'm not on ambulatory but acute care, and a lot depends on what work type I am straight typing. Also a very small percentage of my work is straight. It's mostly SR.

The trick to increasing line count is to maximize your expansions, decrease playback on your pedal so you are not relistening to the same phrase, go at a comfortable steady pace in order to minimize typos, and proof as you transcribe. DO NOT reread the whole document at the end. Send it off and you're on to the next document. If you feel your attention flagging, log off and take a short break. Most importantly, do not take side trips to browse any web sites. Save that for your break time.

I too came from an in-house, hourly, straight transcription job. It took me a good 3 months to get used to SR, and I also had to rebuild my expansions up. My average SR is now around 300 lph. Some may say not spectacular, but my QA scores hover around 99.5 to 100% consistently.

While I don't reread, I quickly eyeball the document from the top to bottom, checking that all the dates are correct, admission-discharge; patient's age; and spelling of the patient's name if it appears in the document. Also sometimes an error will pop out at me and I'll fix it before sending it off. I've trained my eye to look at all these things and can do it pretty quickly now.

You have some great tricks for increasing line count. I'd like to add another tip I find effective. My tip is to read ahead. That is, even with increasing audio speed to 150%, sometimes the speaker will pause or slow down, and so it pays to make your eyes move faster onto the next sentence or sentences. This makes editing quicker.

I do that too during pauses. It's so ingrained that I forgot that I do it. There's always something to see, like a nonsense word that you are 100% certain should be something else and I change that ahead of time; or when a sentence ends and should have a period and the next word should be caps. I most always find something to fix/change while looking ahead during pauses. Thanks for posting that trick for the OP. It will be helpful for her when she starts to do editing.

Got new accounts for the last 2 weeks that are not ASR (yet) so have been doing about 90% straight typing. I have been averaging about $20 more per day than when I do ASR. Hmm, let's see. We get a letter from MQ extolling our virtues as MTs, more and more info about nationalizing the EMR with Verizon, etc. and I notice I'm not the only one getting less ASR, more direct typing. I have a pretty good and accurate typing speed, which has made me pretty good money in the past. Then along comes VR. I have had somewhat success with it, if the right dictation is placed on it. The problem comes in when a company tries to put anything and everything on VR that does not belong there. It defeats the purpose of using it in the first place.
