VR versus straight typing - conniebird

I am pretty sure I know the answer but need to prove it.

I know Nuance is primarily VR with some typing accounts. If you get a doctor who is on VR and you decide to type it instead of using VR you will get the pay per line for VR not straight typing?

I have had some horrible VR that maybe 2 words per line were correct, only way to possibly do it was to straight type. I sent the example of the unedited mess to my TSM, who said "so sorry" but yes I was still paid VR. I have heard that some people have TSMs who have a way to give them credit in those cases, but mine didn't.

didn't match, send that job # to your TL with a quick hey I had to type this entire document, VR didn't match and they can "send" for it to be converted to ST lines. I have done this many times, but I can't say that it has actually been reversed. However, it has to be exactly 50% or more. I once had one that only equated out to 49% ST from the VR and thus had to retype for the VR rate. The email back to me reflected that I only had to type 49% of the document from VR and thus did not qualify for request ST line rate. I had a great grudgingly chuckle over that.

Seriously, on about 5 of the jobs I sent her there couldn't have been more than a 5-10% match, it was that bad. She apologized and said she would let them know that VR was not accurate to try to get them to improve it, but told me that her hands were tied and she could do nothing to fix my pay.

I have a pretty good and accurate typing speed, which has made me pretty good money in the past. Then along comes VR. I have had somewhat success with it, if the right dictation is placed on it. I really wish I understood the logic behind paying 4 cpl for VR as opposed to 8 for straight typing. Do these people think it takes us exactly half the time? I understand being paid a little less, but it should be around 6 cpl. We still have to listen to the dictation, which takes the same time. Got new accounts for the last 2 weeks that are not ASR (yet) so have been doing about 90% straight typing. I have been averaging about $20 more per day than when I do ASR. Hmm, let's see. We get a letter from MQ extolling our virtues as MTs, more and more info about nationalizing the EMR with Verizon, etc. and I notice I'm not the only one getting less ASR, more direct typing. I used to love my job, being an at-home medical transcriptionist. I used to make around $20-25 an hour straight typing and thought being an at-home medical transcriptionist was the best job ever!
