Are there any straight typing jobs anymore? - sadMT

Or do I just need to bite the bullet and start doing VR? My job is straight typing 9-5 M-F! Perfect right? Not anymore. I'm an eTransplus employee and the big shot MQ bought them out, so I can either go to work for them or I can look at other jobs with other companies. I doubt there are any straight typing jobs left right? If so, they will probably switch over soon huh?

Would like to know if anyone is doing ok on VR with the company you're with. It's not the best thing or how we were trained, but it looks as though that is what ALL of the companies are doing, so we either stay in it and learn or get out of the profession altogether. I just wonder if I can pay my bills on VR. I know I won't make as much. I did it for a short with Transcend and it was awful, but Transcend is awful LOL!

I hate VR. I do straight typing and tried doing VR, just can't make enough. I am an old timer 25+ years and switching is hard. I hope we never do it. Thank goodness it is almost retirement time, although I will still have to work. I just can't figure out how to do all the "shortcuts" everyone makes. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

I work for a great company that has had only straight typing up to now. We are in the process of switching over to VR on most of our accounts. I'm going to give it a try, although I know I won't make the same money and I really don't think I'm going to like the work itself. I'm debating also whether to try to find a new MT job with a VERY small company or get out of the field altogether. Tough decision.

MedScribe has straight typing. they have some VR too, but you can pick what you choose to do.

it's in Jacksonville Florida. they have a posting on MTJobs right now that I think says for VR, but if you go on their website and do the test, the recruiter called me like 20 minutes after I finished it! Then he will go over what positions and schedules he has and you can pick what you want. They aren't going to force you to do VR if you don't want it.

well I know it is Cigna, and it is an 80/20 plan with a $20 copay for office visits. also have dental and vision. I can't remember the exact rates they quoted me but it was about $100 a month less than I had before for all 3. I have put in a call to HR to find out and when they call me back, I will send it to you in an email.

The website doesn't say if they hire part-time. Does anyone know if they hire for evenings and weekends only, 15-20 hours a week?

I started with them a month ago, and I really do like it. I am full time, but I know they hire part time. ChartNet is really nice, especially since you can search for particular words or phrases in reports. You also get to use your own computer, which I love. Good luck!!!

I have over 15+ years experience but stopped working in November of 2010 to be at home with my two young boys and give them my full attention. Got new accounts for the last 2 weeks that are not ASR (yet) so have been doing about 90% straight typing. I have been averaging about $20 more per day than when I do ASR. They can sell whatever snake oil they want, I can type faster and make more money straight typing than I can with their much-touted fabulous ASR --- EVEN ON BRAND NEW UNFAMILIAR ACCOUNTS. ...

I have a pretty good and accurate typing speed, which has made me pretty good money in the past. Then along comes VR. I have had somewhat success with it, if the right dictation is placed on it. Little errors here and there. The influence of what SR has put out on what should be heard and the constant struggle with how much of the SR ouptut is wrong along with the loss of train of thought from having to stop so many times to correct, delete, move takes its toll.
