TSM sensitivity training - you are welcome

Posted: May 02, 2014

Dear TSM

Please don't tell me how "great" it is that we have "knocked it out of the park" and the volumes are way down.

Guess what, when the volumes are way down, that is great for you, great for the client, but it means I have no work and have to sit in front of this godforsaken monitor for hours and hours waiting for a crumb here or there.

Please don't keep offering unlimited overtime at night so that there is never any work in the morning. When you hire new people, why not make them work at night?

Since the massive pay cuts which occurred with the advent of FIESA (the death star), many people seem to jump at the OT even though the rate of pay is pretty bad, which means there is never any work in the morning when OT is offered at night.

Here's a thought, if there is work in danger of going out of TAT, tell the OTers they only get to do that, NOT all the work I could have typed the following morning that would NOT be out of TAT, but they just did because they were offered OT.

I cannot participate in OT, #1 because I don't get any benefit from it because I get no production bonus and the OT rates are not good, #2 because I have had to get a second job since Nuance has cut my pay so drastically, so I am unable to base my entire schedule around whether or not there is OT available.

Because I have now two jobs thanks to Nuance pay cuts, it would be nice if there was ever work in the morning when I am scheduled to work for Nuance.

Please also don't tell me the good news that if you are OOW, guess what, you just check in again in 15 minutes and if there is still no work, you can be done for the day!

As much as I wish I could be done for the day, you do realize I don't get paid for that, right? I really cannot afford that, could you?

I imagine you get paid hourly, work or not, you also get bonuses for TAT, whether or not you make mistakes. You certainly don't get money taken off you if you don't make TAT, do you? You still get your hourly pay.

Well, I can tell you that since Nuance found a way to take the bonus off me every single time I make $100 less per week, so how would you like it if they took that off your salary?

The "bonus" is a crock and in fact nothing more than a mechanism to reduce pay. I refuse to look at FIESA, refuse to put my initials on it "accepting" my error, because to me that means I am "accepting" the fact that because I make an error here or there I am okay with Nuance taking pay OFF me for that error, which I am not okay with. I find every time I look at it my confidence goes down, I second guess myself and go slower, and yet no matter how careful I am I still get dinged and never reach bonus.

So, as someone posted here a while back, you pay for cut-rate transcription, that is what you get. Since I have given up on getting the bonus, I find all the proofing and double proofing is unproductive and slows me down. I am very good and fast and very aware, I check the numbers, I check the ages, I do my best, but were I to constantly produce a perfect document every time in my case I could not make the line count requirements, so there's that and there's the fact that without any hope of a bonus I must up my line count, so blankety blank blank when I have to.

So in summary, just be aware when you are crowing over how "great" it is that we worked so hard and got all the work done,  and we do agree with you when you say we could use a break for working so hard and deserve a pat on the back, that does not pay the bills.

If you can't offer anything more than "job well done" (which Nuance has made crystal clear they will never offer) that is fine, but please try to contain your enthusiasm. We would rather you try a little harder with the scheduling and make sure us great employees actually have decent work to do when we are scheduled to work.

AMEN! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Nuance TSMs only care about TAT. No, they don't care whether we have a life or another job or anything except getting those reports back to the client. They are paid hourly. In other words, the people actually doing the transcription/editing are generating the money for all these salaries. Hmmmmm.....

âDon't even consider working here - it's a joke and a very bad one. Note: NOT HQ'd in Sunnyvale - HQ in Burlington, MAâ

TSM (Current Employee)
I have been working at Nuance Transcription Services full-time for more than 3 years

Pros â I've just given my 2-week notice.

Cons â No leadership, very weak and incompetent upper mgmt, micromanagement by "operations teams" that have no field experience, terrible wages, no career growth path, lack of training, lack of respect for experience and expertise, very dismissive, and the list goes on and on.

Advice to Senior Management â Someone from Nuance Communications, the parent company, needs to take a VERY close look at this division. 1) Customers are VERY unhappy due to terrible COMs and Directors, lack of competent project mgmt etc. 2) Upper mgmt (COMS/Directors) are LYING to customers and putting offshore on accounts without customer permission or knowledge even though offshore is incompetent, but THEY'RE CHEAP. And then mgmt refuses to be held accountable when these accounts tank due to offshore's unbelievable and surreal lack of expertise and professionalism. 2) There is NO esprit de corp. It's a "them and us" scenario and has been since the acquisition. 3) PAY PEOPLE A FAIR WAGE - DOMESTIC MLS and "lower" mgmt DO NOT LIVE IN INDIA!!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend â I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I wouldn't want to be a Nuance TSM either - ooo

I have found each one of the TSMs I have spoken with to be very pleasant people. The problem is the Nuance business model, which exploits and denigrates MLSs. The TSM job is to the Nuance happy face to the MSL. Don't know what that pays, but likely not enough to get me to want to do it. While they no doubt make more than us MLS flunkies, I doubt they are respected either.

I completely agree - love my TSM - (and I am the OP!)

[ In Reply To ..]
I sure hope it is not her. The point about the business model is absolutely right, which really is the cause of the beefs I listed in my post.

You can't blame the TSMs because they have been pushed to avoid TAT at any cost. The lack of reward or incentive for experienced MTs is not their fault either, and they DO have to sell happy Nuance to MTs, which can't be fun either when many of them have been MTs and know it's a load of hooey.

I think the only thing they can do to make things slightly better for us MTs is not loading on the extra accounts and scheduling better, i.e. maybe when they do offer OT because of impending TAT to specify only that and not stuff due in 12-24 hours. It must be a pain if you are on the later shifts as well and all these OT-seekers are there stealing your work.

Happy face??? - All my TSMs have been bipolar or sadistic. n.m.

So today must be that TSM's last day. - I wonder who it is.

I sure give her or him a lot of credit for being so honest and getting the word out there.

Wow! - anon

I knew it was bad, boy I am glad I am getting out of there. Kudos to the TSM who posted that, and the best of luck to you:)

I don't have any problems with the TSMs and I sure would not want their job.

Love My TSM - nn

TSMs have to toe the line like the rest of us. Mine is great, but I wouldn't want to walk in her shoes for the world.

We must have the same TSM - see message

All this enthusiasm for quick TAT translates to wondering with every job if there will be a next one, how everyone else on this account is managing to keep their sanity, and can I safely stop reading these cheerleading emails that make me see red as I cannot pay my bills.

A LOT of FIESA errors are blanks you have left - Depressed

[ In Reply To ..]
that are filled in wrong by QAs (probably in India), and you have to fight to try and get them reversed. I was even locked out of FIESA just days before the end of the quarter (I was qualifying for the bonus) and then got an email that I had 10 critical errors, which of course I could not see to contest.

I complained about this and was told - s.m.

[ In Reply To ..]
by my TSM that this was "not possible," even though I have seen it with my own eyes.

Blanks - Fed Up

We are told to leave blanks if we can't understand what is being said, yet we get penalized if we do. We can't win for losing. :(

Who Is Training ASR??? Definitely Not The MT!

Every day ASR gets increasingly of base.  There are so many times when I have to sit and search each line looking for anything that remotely resembles what is being clearly dictated. It started out with maybe 35% accuracy before editing.  Now it barely makes 20%. Regarding The Old Reports Used For Training At MDI
Nov 25, 2009

I believe that these are old reports used for training, but I don't think they are training new MTs on the account.  I believe they are training VR.  Someone mentioned below that it doesn't make sense to pay someone to do old reports that have already been done, and I agree with that also.  Plus, think about the fact that MDI had never, ever trained like this before, even after receiving email after email asking where all our work was going and why we had no work.  ...
