I do not like working this late.  But, this is generally when the work is available and I understand that it is my best chance of getting work.  Not very many people on my account on a Monday night.  I see 23 reports, op notes, that are easy lines, require an insert, and right when I am about to begin to be able to download them, all of them are gone.  This happens all the freakin time.  Somebody had to pull and assign them for them to disappear in a chunk like that.  I know that I cannot get all the good work but I would like a bone, once in a while.  I am hoping to be done with this MT stuff by 06/2014, I just hope I can hang in there until then.

have been working for hours on difficult dictations (a lot of stats) but I see a glimmer of hope with some OPs coming up. Whoops!!! ALL GONE. I asked about this, and was told that they cannot do any stat work because of the layers of QA needed so they get the easy stuff. It's just the way it is now in this industry. We will never get a break. Just have to accept it to keep stress level lower (I try to do this to give myself a break).

I commented about this a while back. It's the rabbit/carrot phenomenon. Whoever is monitoring the work will manipulate the pool so that you see a string of bad/hard dictations followed by a few good ones. You work your butt off getting through the crap, hoping to finally be rewarded with some good stuff, but just when you've cleared out all the junk, they snatch the prize away. You're a rabbit chasing a carrot, one you'll never catch.

They also pool the work not in time order but in dictator order - SM

I saved several screen shots of my pool that proved the work came to me in dictator order, not in time order. This of course means if you get a bad dictator, well you're just stuck with all of them in a row.

for Nuance, I was told that if we ran out of QA work and needed to MT, we were allowed to assign ourselves a few at at time. That could be what happened with you, or it could be offshore. Keep in mind, we were allowed to assign ourselves anything we wanted to, ie, they allowed us to cherry pick. Nice, huh? I don't work for Nuance anymore, so I am not sure if this policy continues.

Yes, Nuance even allows regular MTs to assign their own queues.

as I have worked with almost all of them from time to time. Meaning, I could figure out whether or not I could assign jobs to myself. But, not this one. Do you know for a fact that MTs can assign their own work? Fact, now. Not heresay. :)

Your TL or whatever they call them now can change your settings (you can't do it yourself) so that you can assign yourself jobs. I used to be able to do this myself as an MLS. You could only assign at the most 3 at a time. Believe it or don't believe it, but it is fact. I am no longer employed by Nuance, so whether or not they still do this, I don't know. I can only tell you that they didn't allow everyone to have the capability. Mostly, they allowed it because (A) It was a difficult ESL account and I was familiar with it (as I was on the account when we were brought to Nuance). (B) I liked straight typing. (C) They needed a good transcriptionist to train the difficult ESL dictators. Once the account went to ASR and most of it went to India, they took that capability away from me.

I know it for fact because I personally know 3 people that work for Nuance. Only one of them can assign work to their own queue and I know this for a fact!!

I, on the other hand, have to take whatever garbage I am given.

they noted that there would no longer be work type prioritization in the pooling and they were removing free-will access. I did not have free-will access, I have no idea who did but I hope that this will even the playing field some. Granted, if it was India taking the work, I have no idea how that will play into this. They also state that there will be no manual routing of work based on MLS preference. I guess time will tell how effective it is.

I don't work for Nuance, but that is unfair. Team leads can also assign themselves jobs too.

I do not care if it is QA, India, or an individual being able to assign themselves. The underlying thing is that there is a discrepancy in the distribution of the work. I know that this is not a problem limited to Nuance because it happened at Transcend, too. I used to see similar things happen at Spheris when I worked for them and Edix too. It is just one more thing in the long list of demoralizing factors pushing me to quit this career and pursue more fulfilling things.

I Am So Tired Of The Trash!!

One of my backup accounts is nothing but garbage.  Almost completely ESL.  They can BARELY speak English as it is, but they also choose to whisper and talk as if they have a mouth full of marbles.  I have the volume completely turned up and I can still barely hear them.  My reports are going through today looking like they've been shredded with a machine gun with all the QA markers. I just don't have the energy or patience today to try and figure out what the h3ll ...

Does anybody know of MTSOs that don't require transcription testing?  I'm so tired of spending time testing only to be offered very low cpl in my opinion.  I've been an MT for 20+ years and am trying to find a part-time job.  However, all this testing is really starting to wear me down.  Aren't there any MTSOs out there that just call references anymore?  I'm an IC and have lots of references and regularly do fill-in ...

mixing up the words "offshore" and "outsource."  Outsource is what the hospitals do when they send transcription to M-Modal or whomever.  Offshore is when it goes to our "international labor partners" in India.  Outsourcing jobs we can live with; offshoring is starving us to death.  Get it right already!!!!!!!!! ...

Is anyone else tired of all looking and searching for the "correct" specific formats for every hospital. Spend a LOT of time doing this.. I guess I am just getting tired of all of this. WOuld love to be able to sit and transcribe and not have to keep checking the "peculiarities" of every different type of report and/or dictator. All that and a cut in pay too......live is so good (sarcasm). ...

reports today with static.  It's funny to me that every time I bring it up to my supervisor and send the job # for her and the QC coach to listen, they claim they don't have a problem with it and maybe I need a new headset.  That makes no sense.   Some reports are clear as can be.  If it was my headset wouldn't all reports be bad?  I just did a report that took me forever and I had so many blanks because of all the static in it ...
