It is getting very hard to even find the energy to test anymore. I have tested till I am blue in the face and dont understand why it is so hard to get a job in this profession. I graduated top of my class with a 3.98 and you would think I would have had a job by now. I did not think it would be this hard to land a good job but wow this really is a hard profession to get started in.
I seem to do well on the test and dictations but they always send me emails telling me they have already filled the position. Is all of the jobs I see going to require me to test? Will people write me back or call when they say they are going to? These are questions that I ask myself all the time. What do you think?

[ In Reply To ..]Welcome to the world of the MT. You need to read some of the other posts on this board. Our work is being sent off to India and other countries and they don't care about your 3.98, they just want the work done cheaper somewhere else. I think the companies need to say they have positions available, just to make everyone think we can still do this for a living. They probably have hundreds of MTs trying for the same job.
I am hoping that I will still have a job until I can retire, but it is getting worse and worse every day, and the pay checks keep going down and down. So if you are still young enough and smart enough with your 3.98, go back to school and do something else. And keep reading more on this board and you will see how everyone else is feeling about testing and this profession.

[ In Reply To ..]before you send out any resume you read over again. I immediately noticed in the post above you put "Is all the jobs I see." That is a mistake there and should be "are all the jobs". I think, from what I have been reading, everything that is sent asking for work is gone over with a fine toothed comb so to speak looking for any errors. Be careful but again I am reading most places are wanting 2 years of experience.

[ In Reply To ..]It seems to me that the ones who benefit most from MT school are the ones who collect the tuition. What a racket.
If you can work outside the home, I would recommend pursuing this route. Visit your local medical practices and hospitals, and keep your eyes on the classified ads.

[ In Reply To ..]Aww that is so nice. Thank you for the kind words. I have passed so many tests and I am being as positive as I can. I just get a little restless. I appreciate your kind words though. A lot of times all Medical Transcriptionist on here can find are the mistakes and not see past the point of an error. We are supposed to be allowed to speak freely on here and not be critiqued on a misspelled word. I just don’t get why more people can’t be nice like you.

Finding a first job - RawRecruit
[ In Reply To ..]Again, comments about how it is so difficult to find a job in MT and how MT courses are a scam, or almost. I, and many, many, MANY other new grads found jobs almost immediately (me, in 4 days). You have to test REALLY WELL. That's the secret, and it's not really a secret. If you don't test well, just forget it. I'm talking, 98-100 percent. I tested 99 practicum, 100 objective with my current employer, and was hired within 4 days of graduation. There's no magic here. If you're that good, you should be able to find work.

I said to be very careful, got another answer back and still not spell checked. This person is trying to get work along with others here, they ask for help and yet if you tell them anything then you are their elders? I laughed when I read the one about retiring with only 19 years in! That is a good one. I guess they meant that in a funny vein. Social security would not know what to do with all these older folks retiring after only 19 years, now would they? I was trying to say how important in a resume to make sure all spelling correct. I know QA can be vicious and if you get upset about a person on here saying be sure and use spell check, what will happen when you get a Wanda Watchdog that growls and stays on your back 24/7? You will be ready to toss your cookies and just quit. You elders with 19 years or more service know what I speak of.

I'm searching for a new job as the one I have now runs out of work consistently. I'm just very frustrated at the lengthy applications and tests. It is especially disheartening when you go through the process and finally get to a recruiter just to be told of a position that is either hours or pay you can't accept. Are you as tired as I am of making dumb little corrections in the ISR system? This morning, I am spending all my time “uncapitalizing” regular words in the middle of sentences. Where does it come up with the underline in the middle of laboratory values (1._4). It adds a colon after dates and this morning the abbreviation, MD, is after some of the headings. One of my backup accounts is nothing but garbage. Almost completely ESL. They can BARELY speak English as it is, but they also choose to whisper and talk as if they have a mouth full of marbles. Is anyone else tired of all looking and searching for the "correct" specific formats for every hospital. Spend a LOT of time doing this.. I guess I am just getting tired of all of this.
