I am lucky to have maybe made $100 this week and it's almost over. I have begged for more accounts, worked odd hours to try and "steal" some work to no avail. I sit here 16 hours a day practically waiting for a job or two, anything.  I have been applying EVERYWHERE but no jobs. I am so discouraged.  We're slowly sinking but all I hear from who I work for is, "it's just slow right now." Slow doesn't put a roof over my head.  I ask I just needed to vent. What are others doing when it is this slow? I cannot call the people I owe money to and tell them, "sorry, things are slow." They don't care.

Believe it or not, an MTSO cannot make the hospital send more dictation if there isn't any. What do you expect? I'd like to hear what you REALLY think is going on, why you aren't getting work. As others have said, if you can't make it in this profession you might have to think about another one. That's the honest, brutal truth.

I would really LOVE for them not to overhire. There were already enough people one ONE account - You wanted to know

So they hired four more. That is why there isn't enough work. If they know it's "slow" why in the heck would they hire more. You asked. What's your thoughts on overhiring.

are they hiring for new accounts that are coming on board and these people need to learn the account? Are they hiring because some people who work for them think that just because they work from home they can work when they choose and not adhere to a schedule they asked for? Maybe you should ask someone in charge why they are "overhiring". Have you ever had to supervise a group of MTs before...I used to do it years ago, it's no picnic.

Who worked out tails off and have been there longer. Shouldn't we be moved to the accounts where help is needed instead of hiring more people, and when the work gets slow, I feel we should have first dibs on it. There is no loyalty. You can work somewhere for years and they have no concern where the works goes as long as someone does it. They want you to commit to sitting there all day, where is their commitment in providing you work so you can live. Your right, maybe it is time to move on.

accounts that need help. I know how difficult it is to sit and wait for work (one reason why I got out of this field, only to come back part-time). I do think you're right about the fact that as long as the work gets done it doesn't seem to matter much who does it, the loyal, longstanding employee or a new hire. I would think that saving work of any kind is a form of cherry-picking in reverse...saving work for the employees who have been there the longest, certainly not fair to the new hire. I really don't know if there is a happy medium at all. I do wish you luck and hope things turn around for you. I don't want to start an argument or cat fight about this subject. I do wish you well.

I don't think I've even made $100 this week. Constantly get NJA, but continue to get daily e-mails about the heavy accounts/late work. I've asked several times for other accounts but with the usual excuses. Right now I am sending out my resume to whatever company in my town is hiring. I can't make it here anymore, and no one is being honest about where the work is going. If would be nice if the MTSO's could be up front with us grunts.

You are probably entitled to partial unemployment. Check into it - I did back in December and collected partial unemployment until mid February when I started collecting full unemployment. I was in your same boat and got sick and tired of sitting around waiting for work and giving the company 12-14 hour days.

Focus Infomatics is having trouble getting enough evening MTs. The shift is 2-10 pm EST. If you could work that schedule, they may hire you if qualified.

Are you as tired as I am of making dumb little corrections in the ISR system? This morning, I am spending all my time “uncapitalizing” regular words in the middle of sentences. Where does it come up with the underline in the middle of laboratory values (1._4). It adds a colon after dates and this morning the abbreviation, MD, is after some of the headings. I Am So Tired Of The Trash!!

One of my backup accounts is nothing but garbage.  Almost completely ESL.  They can BARELY speak English as it is, but they also choose to whisper and talk as if they have a mouth full of marbles.  I have the volume completely turned up and I can still barely hear them.  My reports are going through today looking like they've been shredded with a machine gun with all the QA markers. Does anybody know of MTSOs that don't require transcription testing?  I'm so tired of spending time testing only to be offered very low cpl in my opinion.  I've been an MT for 20+ years and am trying to find a part-time job.  However, all this testing is really starting to wear me down.  Aren't there any MTSOs out there that just call references anymore?  I'm an IC and have lots of references and regularly do fill-in ...

mixing up the words "offshore" and "outsource."  Outsource is what the hospitals do when they send transcription to M-Modal or whomever.  Offshore is when it goes to our "international labor partners" in India.  Outsourcing jobs we can live with; offshoring is starving us to death.  Get it right already!!!!!!!!! ...

Is anyone else tired of all looking and searching for the "correct" specific formats for every hospital. Spend a LOT of time doing this.. I guess I am just getting tired of all of this. WOuld love to be able to sit and transcribe and not have to keep checking the "peculiarities" of every different type of report and/or dictator. All that and a cut in pay too......live is so good (sarcasm). ...
