My computer died, - and I am not being allowed tech support

Posted: Sep 24, 2012

time that I had to take to set up a new one.  Also, I am being harrassed about being slow when my computer problems were plaguing me, even though I kept my TL informed at all times.  Does this seem reasonable to anyone?

No, they're being completely unreasonable. They - pay us nothing, and yet what? They - sm

expect us to have top of the line PCs, and replace them whenever one of them so much as burps? With what money, pray tell? I get the same harrassment. They tell me my PC is old, too slow (funny - it was "just fine" last year... what changed?). Now they're pressing me to get a new one, and I can't even make my rent on what these bozos pay. Fine. Let them just fire me then. That way I'll get UE, will be bringing home more than I do currently, and maybe THEN I can afford to buy a new computer.

I wonder if it is even legal - to require employees to supply their own equipment

[ In Reply To ..]
I thought that would mean you would be an IC.

I had tech issues - on my computer

[ In Reply To ..]
A few weeks ago, then a few months ago and a year ago. Each time I was out for close to a week and each time I was told I had to make up my time before the end of the pay period. This last time it was an issue w/ my word program all the sudden being corrupt and not working properly. I was told that I am only allowed to use my computer anything but for work and the next time it happens they won't be available to help me fix it. The funny thing is, I only use this computer for work. I have an older computer that I use for everything else. But of course, I am lying b/c as an MT I lie about everything. I wonder how they can tell us we are only to use our computer for work when they didn't help purchase it in any way, shape or form. And if you do have to buy a new computer, you have to go through hoops just to make sure it has the right software on it and if it doesn't have the perfect version, you are then out more money to buy more software. Where do they think this money comes from, we are paid pennies and a new computer and software is not cheap!!

Document - everything

[ In Reply To ..]
All of you should just document your conversations, any time off due to the computer issues, make copies of all your IM discussions, make copies of your emails, etc. I used to copy everything when I worked there.

That's crazy that they would tell you it could only be - wannie

used for work. I bought and paid for my computer and I can use it any way I desire. NO company can tell me how to use MY OWN PROPERTY.

BECAUSE NUANCE SUCKS! - g

In so many ways, I can't even name them all. Thank God I can ***** to my therapist, who, by the way, I didn't need before this crappy hole-in-the wall outfit started ruining my life. Oppression is the name of the game, oppression of women. Can you believe it still goes on in this day and age? OK, so I rambled, you get the idea.
What did your therapist say? - nm

NUANCE SUX - mt20years

[ In Reply To ..]
I think our managers are trained in how to intimidate, but too bad for them cause I am not easily intimidated. I have worked in a hospital and been cussed out by the best. Nuance == Pukance and they can't tell me what to do with MY COMPUTER that I paid for. But if you let them, they will try to tell you what to do with your off time, like working for them on the weekend and then RUN OUT OF WORK DURING THE WEEK.

Worst company ever. Just my opinion.
Majority - opinion
[ In Reply To ..]
It's a great majority of opinions on here that they are the worst and they SUCK.

I would not let these &D#(@ tell anyone what they should do with their computer. If that's the case, they should be supplying their employees with their own. That's what you all should say to them who are still there (I'm gone from this place thank godness so I don't have to worry anymore and be subjective to their BS).

I believe we can deduct - home office expenses

[ In Reply To ..]
from our taxes, although my total possible deductions, even with the home office, are not more than the standard deduction, so I don't bother. But some of you might save some money on taxes this way. Be sure to bring it up at tax time.

Have yet to hear of employee who thought IC-type - deductions were worth taking. nm

Tax Deductions - Bobo

[ In Reply To ..]
It is definitely worth it. My friend is an accountant and anything done to improve your house is deductible (including crazy things like carpet cleaning, window cleaning). I even deducted new appliances.

Sure, you can, but it has to be an outrageous high amount - before you can deduct.

I never have - enough expenses to deduct

[ In Reply To ..]
They tell you that you can deduct b/c you work from home and supply your own equipment, electric, net, etc, but truth of the matter is that in a years' time, the deductions are not high enough and therefore, we eat the cost with our crappy pay. Which equates to supplying our own equipment that is needed to do a job and NOT being compensated for it in any way, shape or form.

Computer Died....anyone Replace A Power Supply ? - Sm
Jun 27, 2010

Woke up to my computer dead (2.5 years old).....shut it down last night, no problems.  Did not notice if the blinking light(of the power button) was on or not last night when I went to bed.  In any case it was off this morning which is not the norm.  DOA.  Tried the obvious, unplugged, replugged in different outlet, etc.  Nada.  Have another old Dell here (has hard drive issues not power supply)  thought maybe I could switch out the power supplies, don ...

Computer Died Unexpectedly....seeking Expertise
Jan 21, 2013

My computer was fine last night but this morning had apparently committed suicide during the night. After powering it off and back on, I received the Dell/Windows screen that normally comes up, then it went to a black screen with the message "NO BOOT DEVICE AVAILABLE." Has anyone else ever encountered this and is it fixable?  I do have a backup computer but I had a lot of information on the hard drive of the other computer I'd love to be able to recover. TIA! ...

I Can't Believe It, I Think I've Died And Gone To Heaven. Sm
Mar 08, 2011

Wow, all day today and yesterday I have been getting actual transcribe jobs, not ASR!!!  Whuppeeeee!!!!  This ol gal is relishing the respite for a while.  I know it won't last long.  I am enjoying it while I can.   I have been extremely, extremely sick for the last 2 months, and this is a joy for me.  With all the meds I take ASR tends to be too monotonous and I find myself drifting off.  Not good.  Transcribing keeps me alert and focused.  ...

I Think I Died And Went To Heaven....... Sm
Sep 17, 2011

I just got an eleven-minute dictation that I actually had the pleasure of transcribing as opposed to doing speech recognition on it.  The dictator was perfect!!  He spoke at a regular rate, not too fast and not too slow.  His thoughts were organized and he enunciated his words clearly.  I just typed my little heart out on that one and loved every minute of it!!!!  Why can't it always be like that??? <Sigh> ...

I Have Died And Gone To Semicolon Hades
Jan 03, 2014

MME here working on global reports and I'm wondering ... when did semicolons become an acceptable substitution for commas and colons?  In my last report I swear there were no fewer than a million of the little suckers - on every line of the report there were at least a few.   PAST MEDICAL HISTORY: Includes; hypertension; diabetes; hypothyroid.  SOCIAL HISTORY: Nonsmoker; nondrinker; no illicit drug abuse; lives at home; works as a cashier. I can't stand it!!   ...

I leave my computer up and running all the time.  In the past week every morning I am having to reboot because I get an error saying "insufficient system resources to perform this action."  As soon as it finally reboots, then everything is fine, I can log onto DQS and type all day with no problems.  Then it sits again all night, and the same thing happens the next morning. Computer Age VS 6.1
Sep 10, 2010

I was just wondering how old some computers are that are having problems with 6.1 and if there are people with newer computers that handles it better.  Mine is a MQ computer that is 4 years old now and it bogs down quite a bit.  Everything is sluggish now.  I do have 1 GB of ram and 1.84 GHz, so 6.1 shouldn't take a toll on it as bad as it is.  I'm just wondering if I should ask the Q for an upgrade, if that is the problem.  Knowing the RAM and proces ...

Help MQ Computer
Sep 16, 2010

Need help! I don't use an MQ computer, since they don't want you to put anything personal on it, and most of my life, including banking, is on my computer.   My 4-year-old computer crashed and is in the shop for a couple days, and I decided maybe it's time to get a new one.  The problem is, DQS requires a 32-bit system, and so far all the new computers I've found are all Windows 7, which is 64 bits.   I also want to get a slimline, since it kills my ...
