Help MQ computer - Shipwrecked

Need help!

I don't use an MQ computer, since they don't want you to put anything personal on it, and most of my life, including banking, is on my computer. My 4-year-old computer crashed and is in the shop for a couple days, and I decided maybe it's time to get a new one. The problem is, DQS requires a 32-bit system, and so far all the new computers I've found are all Windows 7, which is 64 bits. I also want to get a slimline, since it kills my back carrying a regular-sized computer. Laptop won't work on my desk.

I can't be the only MT needing to replace a computer, and I was wondering if anybody knows how to find a 32 bit.

Good luck with that. My suggestion is to take the MQ for work and buy a "modern" one for your use. You can get a switch to go back and forth with them and use same monitor, keyboard, etc. Or, you could look on Ebay for a used XP or pay to have a downgrade on the new one. Though, some are saying they can use DocQscribe with Windows 7, I have not been able to since the upgrade.

Best Buy has a slimline Acer with Window XP - on their website.

But it looks like all the others are loaded with Windows 7.

They sell refurbished PCs via their web site, or have one custom built. I have a slimline Dell Inspiron at home for personal use, it's an old XP box but I love it. I have 2 PCs at work because I use 2 different platforms, I have a switch box and toggle back and forth using the ScrLk key on my keyboard, it works really well. Good luck.

I bought a refurbished Windows XP and it works just fine. It was cheap, too. I forget how much, but not near what you pay in a store.

I know XP is "old hat," but so is DQS, and XP is still alive and kicking in other arenas.

Yes, online. I found my paperwork. Went to E-Bay and punched in Dell Computers, then it directed me to computerstore199. It was, including tax and shipping, under $200. (This was back in June.) It's a Fast PRO DELL P4 Desktop Computer PC Win X, to be exact. I also got good customer service--I forget why I needed them, but they were right on it.

Anyway, that store got a 99% satisfaction rating, something like that.

I just checked this place out, and their referb Dells are great, and all with new XP. I was so disappointed, they're all 30-pounders - no slimlines. What a bummer, since the company looks legit and the prices are great. Thanks

Two months ago I had a virus, involving 2 trips to the shop, and now the smoking hard drive. It weighs 30 pounds, and I have uneven flagstone steps and am afraid I'll fall and/or drop it. Then I have to carry it about a block to get to the shop. Getting too old to be hauling it around.

charge you. Any computer repair place can build you one. I got a desktop built with comparable specs for just over $500 and the place that built it gave he a year warranty, just like the major companies. They will also put on whatever general programs you need, or you can take in your old one to copy stuff over if you need to.

I leave my computer up and running all the time. In the past week every morning I am having to reboot because I get an error saying "insufficient system resources to perform this action." I was just wondering how old some computers are that are having problems with 6.1 and if there are people with newer computers that handles it better. Mine is a MQ computer that is 4 years old now and it bogs down quite a bit. Everything is sluggish now. I do have 1 GB of ram and 1.84 GHz, so 6.1 shouldn't take a toll on it as bad as it is. Does anyone use a Mac for medical transcription with Windows XP and MT software that requires nothing newer than XP? Got my new computer. Got my flash drive. Want to transfer my favorites, my documents to the new computer. I got the favorites transferred, but can't get the documents. Tech support says the Dpcqscribe program will only work with a 32 bit 4 gig computer...Im trying to not have to use their virtual desktop since it is lagging my computer something fierce..So I went to Best Buy today and all they have is 64 bit Windows 7 models..but they did say I could load windows 7 professional on there for another 99 dollars and it will run as a 32 bit...has anyone tried this and had it work??...Ill call tech support in the morning before I invest..I need to get off this craz ...

I am a new hire at Transcend and would like to use a laptop for work as I visit my kids a lot. What would be the best laptops to buy? Would appreciate if you included the exact name of the laptop and the processor speed.
