it's a dead and done field. Even MModal is training their MTs to become coders. Personally i'm back back in school, will get my associate's next month and start at the University in the Fall. Hopefully my job will last that long.
Good luck!
I second that. I'm applying everywhere that is not MT - and still waiting

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but your post is my thought exactly. Hopefully OP does not become an MT. Do anything else, any job in healthcare, something, but not MT.
I've been actively applying for any job that's not MT since 2010 and only had 1 interview (didn't get the job). I'm trying to get out of MT BAD and can't post my resignation fast enough!
She will not be a transcriptionist anyway, she will be an editor of VR garbage and hate it.

I really wish these schools would stop with the lies to new students coming in on how wonderful the field is right now and how they can make a good living. Definitely go back to school and steer clear of the MT field. Unless you like sleepless nights, stomach ulcers, being poor, losing your home and car and being on antidepressants, well then this is the career for you. Good luck in whatever you do. May the force be with you.
exactly. that is why there are no posts on this board - there are no more new MTs

Every day I thank G-d I was able to hold on until I had enough SS built up that I get a sizable check each month. I take small MT jobs from a friend's company for travel money. We live pretty simply. I would NEVER, ever advise anyone to go into MT at this late date. My own niece wanted to do it and I told her that, while it was her own business to choose whatever career she wanted, but I would NOT help her become an MT, as it is a dying field.I did not want to be held responsible when she could not pay her mortgage. (To the OP: I was an MT/MTSO for the better part of 40 years.)

I am so sorry, but with the competition out there (800 applications for every 1 job) I am afraid you are going to have a problem with credentials from a community college. Did you college use the SUM program? If not, give it up entirely. Good luck to you.

If they are teaching it, they need to tell you about jobs.
You should not have spent that amount of money and time to JUST NOW be inquiring about jobs. The time to investigate is BEFORE signing up.
You might be able to find something locally. National services sometimes take new grads if they can pass the test, but they usually only consider students from one or two schools. Everett is not one of them, unfortunately, You can still try.
Sorry, wrong school - see msg

I'm sorry you didn't investigate MT courses before you chose the one you did. By the virtue of the fact that you have to ask anyone, is your answer as to what kind of schooling you had. A good MT program will direct you on job placement, resume help, etc.
Meanwhile, see if "one of the biggies" will test you. If you happened to have taken the SUM program, they just might allow you to test.
If you test and pass and they hire you, be certain to be training for/looking for another career outside of MT.
I'm a newly-graduated MT - I just graduated 4 weeks ago. I'm feeling really nervous, reading all the postings here, because it sounds like I chose the wrong field to go into. And I had to spend my IRA funds for these classes, too! I went through a 1-year certificate program (it actually took me two years to finish because of the way classes were scheduled). I feel it was thorough education - anatomy/physiology, pharmacology, lab/diagnostic tests, human diseases, medical terminology, ph ...
So the second week of April I got my graduation certificate in the mail from At-Home Profession's Medical Transcription Program. I am excited, I am ready for some MT work. I have been applying to places online and have sent out introduction letters to 20 different clinics and doctors offices with my information and business cards. Most places that are looking for MT's on this website require at least 1 year of experience and I can understand that. I am a newbie and no one likes to carr ...
From this board, one would assume that there are quite a few graduates out there looking for jobs. I find myself in this uneviable position.
Are there companies who hire new grads? I am beginnning to believe that are none.

I recently graduated MT school from Career Step and I'm in the process of looking up companies that would be good to apply for. I have a small list of potential companies but I would rather not apply without any feedback on the company first. I'd rather not be offered a job and take it not knowing anything about them. If you know anything (good or bad) about the following companies I would greatly appreciate your input!

I have recently graduated with a certificate in Medical Transcription and am finding it difficult to find a job! I am a Respiratory Therapist full-time and just want something part-time at home for extra income and to gain experience to hopefully do transcription as a full-time career. Can anyone give me any advice on how to go about finding employment? I have put my application in for several jobs but my lack of experience has been a problem. I think that maybe I am just looking in ...
Hello,
I am new to the forum and recently hired as an at-home MT. It has been a year since I completed college MT courses at a tech center. The employer, saw my resume online.
I have a p/t job that I've had for 2 years in addition to the MT job. Both jobs, are flex in hours, although the MT employer would like full-time. It pays 8 cents for every 60 characters. I would really love to drop the p/t job because it miserable in many ways. Can someone break the pay down in other terms? W ...
I have accepted a position with Nuance and would like some helpful info. Will be working on BeyondTXT, which I have no experience with, and would appreciate any helpful hints regarding this platform. Also, I have no experience with expansion programs. Apparently I need to purchase one and unsure which is best. Thank you all in advance! ...

I just graduated from Career Step's MT curriculum with Honors. I'm looking around for jobs now but I'm very nervous. What is I'm too slow or I am not as accurate as they want me to be? Will companies be more understanding to inexperienced transcriptionists who just went to school?
Also I was scrolling down the forum and a lot of people are saying no one is hiring. Is that true? ...
So I am hired and did all the webinar training and such... and am waiting and waiting to get trained on account specifics and get started working...
How long can I expect to wait? I asked someone Friday and they said most likely Tuesday. Tuesday workday has come and gone....

stayed put in my prior company to experience this. My training experience was not a great one to begin with so I probably should have expected this. I sent out my resume and luckily have already received a couple of nibbles. I figure at this rate with no email replies, when I email my resignation nobody will even notice (or probably care). ...
I became credentialed as a CPC-H in September of 2012 after completing AAPC's CPC-H training course. I have been searching for employment since then and completing CEUs as I search, such as AAPC's ICD-10 anatomy and pathophysiology training which provides for 14 CEUs.
I just had an interview for an ambulatory coder job listed by a major healthcare center in Seattle who is putting me in the inexperienced file as a newly credentialed CPC-H with 20 years' experience as a ...
I know that the MT world is starting to get difficult to find gainful employment, but I am a recent Honors graduate. Do any of the experienced MT's have any advice of getting into the business? I really have my heart set on making this work. So any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Maybe, if you would have some names of companies that are willing to take a chance on a newbie.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season.

..well, I'm really close to finishing. It seems as though, based off things said here, I've made a bad decision. Oh well, I'm almost done, so I mine as well finish and sit for the RMT exam. I actually am applying to school for respiratory therapy. Any newbie's have anything positive to say about their experiences getting started as an MT? I hate to have a negative attitude, that's really not how I am, but sometimes you have to be realistic. I'll still apply to MT jo ...

Hello everyone. I graduated last Sept with my coding degree and intend to take my CPC or CCS certification test or possibly both eventually. I am wondering if anyone who is currently coding has been able to had a hard time finding their 1st position out of school ? My school was not helpful when it came to career services and the hospital where I interned was too small to hire me after graduation. I have applied to some of my local hospitals only to be told you have to have minimum of 2 years ex ...
I graduated from Andrews about a week ago and am thrilled to say I got a job already! I had only sent out 4 resumes and took 1 test. I am posting just to show there are jobs out there for newbies and of course it does matter where you go to school I think. So newbies stay positive and you will find a job! ...
I graduated about a year ago from Andrews, but was needed to care for an elderly family member. I can now work, but am having a hard time because of no experience and a year out of school. Any suggestions? Thank you! ...
