Tested with Execuscribe - Tara

Posted: Jun 06, 2011

I passed the test with a 98% but I did not get the job because of my experience level. That really angers me. They told me that they would keep my resume on file. How am I supposed to get a job?

I tested with them last year - me

Passed and never heard from them. At least you got a reason they weren't hiring you. Sometimes I wonder why they bother to test....good luck in your search.

They should not have put you through the torture of a test without notifying you first that experience is a must. That's just horrible.

Even though I got that message the recruiter contacted me by email and she was extremely nice. She asked me to take written editing tests. I completed them last night and sent them and now I am waiting to hear back. I feel good about this!

No one has contacted me regarding my editing test yet. I am getting a little nervous. I emailed the test on Monday. Maybe I will hear back next week! I hate waiting!

Did not get the job. - Tara

I received an email saying that someone had better scores than I did, so therefore, I did not get the position! I give up! I'm done with MT. There are no opportunities out there for me. School was a waste!

I am truly sorry you did not get the position. I do think your expectations are a bit unrealistic to think that you (or anyone) will get hired the first time out. Some people I know have applied for 30-50 jobs before getting an offer. I cannot believe you will give up and say "what a waste" after a simple rejection. We are in the midst of a great recession (if not a depression). Our company estimates we get 300 applications for every 1 position. Don't give up! Keep trying!
Thanks - Tara

Thanks for your reply. At this point, I really do not know where else to apply!!!! I feel like I am out of options! If you have suggestions, please let me know. I feel like I have looked everywhere!

Tara, what school did you graduate from? I could better help you if I knew that. At any rate, good luck to you!
School - Tara

I graduated from a local college here in NC...from their online MT program....Guilford Technical Community College. I have another degree from there (not online) in Entertainment Technology. I also have a BA in English/Communications from another local college.

Tara, did your school use the SUM program? If not, you might want to augment your education with it. You are competing with people who do have a background in SUM (which is the gold standard); that might be part of the problem. It is great that you have degrees in entertainment techology and English communications; however, that will not help with getting in the door with an MTSO. I would like to get a degree in Italian, and while it would show proficiency with language, I doubt it would score me any points with the MT world. My sense is that you might need to augment your program a bit to make it more attractive to prospective employers. Perhaps I am wrong....just a thought, though. (Speaking as a former MTSO.) Keep trying! Please don't give up.
Yes, I did use both of the SUM programs. - Tara

YES! I did use the SUM program as part of my training. I still have both of the disks, as a matter of fact. That is stated in my cover letter that I use along with my resume to apply for MT positions. I just don't know where else to go! If you could help me, I would appreciate it more than you know.

It is really to your advantage to have SUM on your resume. I would help you if I could, but I am not sure how to do so. Our company will not even interview anyone without a minimum of five years of recent experience. They make no exceptions to this rule. Does your school offer job placement assistance as part of its program? I would go to the instructor and ask him or her what percentage of grads of your program actually get jobs. That may give you a clearer picture. Again, we are in a recession (or as my CPA says, a depression) and when you have 300 applicants for every job, the chances of a newbie getting hired are quite small. However, it can happen and it DOES happen. Being patient is a large part of the equation. The newbies who seem to have the most success start with clinics or doctors' offices. That could be a foot in the door for you. I do not know of any reputable large nationals (and I do not recommend them anyway, for many reasons) that will take on newbies. Whatever you do, do not fall prey to the scam of paying to work. It is a ripoff. Keep us updated on how it is going!
Thank you. - Tara

I have the SUM program listed in my cover letter as part of my training. My school does NOT offer job placement assistance because it is a community college. My instructor is no help when it comes to asking her any questions about job placement. They are continuing this program when they know very well where the job opportunities are for medical transcriptionists. I just quit contacting my instructor because she always gives me the same answer and that is that she knows nothing and she cannot help! That is her answer every time. I called a lot of physician's offices in my area, and they all say that they outsource. If they do advertise for a position, they always require two or more years experience. Don't know how to get it if I will not be hired by someone.

Tested And Got An Eye Opener
Dec 04, 2012

I tested last week and got such bad dictation I could not believe it. I tried to transcribe it as if I was getting paid the usual 8 CPL and realized it would take more time to complete it and I would be making zero money. Sloppy H&P with a heavy accent, whispering AND loud background noise; a coronary catheterization dictation that I commend an MT on even completing that I was supposed to edit. I sent the test back anyway and got an email saying I didn't pass the minimum, whatever tha ...
