tested and got an eye opener - carjjen

Posted: Dec 04, 2012

I tested last week and got such bad dictation I could not believe it. I tried to transcribe it as if I was getting paid the usual 8 CPL and realized it would take more time to complete it and I would be making zero money. Sloppy H&P with a heavy accent, whispering AND loud background noise; a coronary catheterization dictation that I commend an MT on even completing that I was supposed to edit.

I sent the test back anyway and got an email saying I didn't pass the minimum, whatever that is. And get this, the email said, "I know it's disappointing." Really? Really? It just affirmed how difficult this job has become, with heavy accents, lightning speed dictation and I know the ASR version I was given to look over was already heavily edited. No way VR ever can replace the MT!

Really had to hold myself back and not reply to the email, with "whatever"

Consider it a blessing. The audio is all like that and - you will get those (sm)

ESLs 99.9% of the time. Then you'll get a list of 20 dictators who want it this way or that way for the 10 different accounts that want the report formated this way or that way. As soon as your first report scores below the quality score you will not see the hiring bonus either which is a scam.

It is so not worth it. Consider it saving yourself a lot of trouble. Trust me!

Consider yourself lucky - old and burned out

Frankly, I don't understand how so many American MTs continue to work under these conditions. I work only 16 hours a week, mostly to add a little structure to my life. There is no way, even with over 40 years experience, that I could support myself if I had to work full-time. ALL the work I get is as you described. Some days there is not even one good dictator and there is loud background noise in almost every report.

How are you only working 16 hours - when minimum is 24?

[ In Reply To ..]
I asked to be lowered and they wont, even though most days I dont have any work.

Another poster who just posts whatever thought they have, true - or not? nm

Just start working 16 hours. Why are you asking them? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Just start "telling" them what you are going to do and do it. Why bother asking? They don't care to provide work when you're scheduled, so why are you giving them the courtesy of asking?

As a matter of fact, the way things are right now, I would just work whenever or whatever you want. No one cares or is watching. If they were, they'd have work available.
Thats funny :) I agree, just work 16 hours and see how long - it takes for someone to ever notice it...and

when they do, see what happens (if anything).

I changed my schedule a little while back and it was only suppose to be temporary, turns out, Im still working it and its been going on year. They have not said anything, so neither have I, in fact, I have even mentioned my hours to CCM on more than one occasion and she has never, not once said anything to me about my old schedule.
My schedule is 20 hours per week---I just asked for it about 1 yr ago. - Lee

One of the FUNNIEST posts I've ever read in my life was on this message board about 6 months ago. The poster said that she turned in her notice, which was never acknowledged, and stopped working for the company. After about 3 weeks or so, she was bored and turned on her computer one day. She signed on to her company's site and put in her password, which still worked, and began working. LOL I still laugh when I think about this.
I also resigned in November. - sm

I keep receiving the 15 messages a day for changes in account specs for all the different accounts. I keep getting Boost messages.

I called today to see about the 401K and they said I hadn't been released yet. Whaaat? LOL - I have access to everything. No one has written to tell me goodbye or anything. I just keep accruing vacation and I just keep requesting it in TW and they just keep paying me and I haven't worked a full shift since the middle of October.

Just work whatever you want to work. No one cares there. You are just a number to them, a portal, a whatever..... LOL- do what makes you happy! :D
I remember that post. That person had actually left to start - another job, when the job did not work out, she

just decided to try logging back into work at MedQuist to see what would happen, when she logged in, everything was the same as usual and she continued right on back working for MedQuist as if she had never been gone.

I think she said she was gone like 6 weeks or something and nobody ever asked her where she was or why she had not been working. I found that post hillarious too, but I can see how people might get over-looked in this company.

Other than the generic emails, and emails about account spec changes, there really is no communication and literally we are working in a virtual world.

Did it before they changed their policy - NM - old and burned out

gotta figure, different people have different circumstances. Just because its policy now that you must work 24 hours to be part-time, does not necessarily mean all the part-timers who were working less than that had to increase up to 24 when that policy came into place.

It could be that she has special circumstances and was approved that schedule or it could be that she was working 16 hours already before the policy of having to work 24 hours was instituted. Ya never know.
Yeah, and my name is Thin & Beautiful. Do ya think I am? - Thin & Beautiful. nm

I've often wondered about VR. Years ago when I started doing MT, it was a well repected job. MTs worked mostly in hospitals, some in clinics. Quality was more important than quantity. Of course, you had to get the job done. It was also salaried and not production.

I worked in a small hospital, 12 docs on staff, and they were all busy. I was the only transcriptionist. I worked a lot of overtime, but was paid well enough that I was compensated for what I did.

Eye Opener
Jun 11, 2011

Been wanting to do coding for years.  I have been an acute care transcriptionist for 20 years, and thought this would be a good background for coding, an easy switch for me.  I have taken coding classes here and there over the years, and am now enrolled in AHIMA's Coding Basics.  I got an interview last week and took a screening test.  Piece of cake.  Fifteen questions, very simple.  Went back yesterday to take another test.  I had to code four charts.&nbs ...

Wow, An Eye Opener.

Always wondered how those MTs got bazillions of lines with ASR. Have been getting accounts from all over the place  tonight.  On one of them the dictators use standards for nearly everything.  Wish I could work there all the time. ...

A Huge Eye Opener
Dec 08, 2013

I had a HUGE eye opener yesterday.  We are not the only ones who are being replaced by software, it is happening in every single industry - I read a big article yesterday announcing this "really cool" (the article's opinion, not mine) new way to place an order at Chili's - on an iPad type tablet that is brought to your table when you are seated - point and click.  Then your order goes directly to the kitchen electronically and your dinner is brought to you by a staff member w ...

Anyone Tested With MXSecure?
Nov 14, 2010

I recently saw a job ad for this company and am considering testing for a job.  The job ad does not specifically state their equipment requirements.  I went to their company web site to try to find out, but I can't find any place where they list whether you need a footpedal to take the test.  I feel like a bonehead because I'm sure I must be missing it somewhere.  I did find where they list some hardware and internet requirements and it just says you need speakers a ...

Has anyone ever tested with acusis and got an email to look over the scheduling and pay and had their computer tested by them and never heard from them again?  I was assuming I was getting hired, but I guess I shouldn't assume anything anymore.  Once they find out I have bad credit (which I think is what happened), they don't email again. ...

Applied And Tested For M*Modal
Mar 06, 2012

My question is this?  What is everyone's issue really?  I see a lot of complaining but I have found that in this industry if you do your work and stick to your schedule you make plenty of money.  In addition, I see complaints regarding not getting answers to questions, etc.  Can you not get information from account specs and research?  Again, this is an industry where you have to do some leg work to get the job done 90% of the time (most companies do not have team l ...

Feb 16, 2011

I've failed each test.  I actually passed the first set of tests for Webmedx, but then they gave me a VR test, and I've never done that before, so I failed.  I even got turned down at a local hospital.  I've been out of the field for the past 2 years taking care of my baby, so I'm very rusty right now.  I used to be a very good transcriptionist.  I've only worked from home once before.  The rest of my time has been spent working at a hospita ...

Have Tested And Been Offered A Position With M*Modal.
Sep 29, 2012

All of the negative posts on here and the company board are making me think I'm going to decline the offer.  Sad thing is, I have already caught them in a contradiction, which confirms what many of you have said one can expect from this company.  I sure wish I could find a company that appreciates what we do for them and shows it by not misrepresenting what they have to offer and by paying a decent wage so as to encourage its people to stay put.  I'm tired of a ...
