Slow MT transcription - JollyMT

Hi all, I am a new transcriptionist. I have a job with a very small company that's doing transcription for a group of hospitals in Florida. The lady who hired me is so nice. She is training me and I am producing a quality product, but I am so slow! I'm averaging about 100 lines per hour because I have to look some things up or the doctors take such long breaks to look things up in the record in front of them. Also, the doctors tend to say one thing and then change the verbiage to something else so I have to delete and rewrite.

I don't think I'll be fired because the owner knows I am really trying hard to speed up and to make sure my work is beyond the 98% factor. I am an IC so I'm paid by the line.

Do any of you have any hints to help me speed up? I would be so grateful.

One really good thing to remember is if you cannot hear something that is dictated and you run it back once and try...don't keep listening. Leave yourself a time stamp (or blank) and get to the end of the report and go back and listen to that blank again. Sometimes the physician will repeat the information down in the report. Also, once you have reached the end of the report you are more used to his verbage, accent, etc. Good luck in your career and it sounds like you are doing fine.

Use autocorrect or some form of text expander. I never type an entire sentence, letter for letter. Start with frequently used words and make shortcuts. Add a few each day. Dont add too many at once or you will forget them. If your doc has a frequently repeated phrase, set up a 3-letter short cut, such as sob for shortness of breath, etc. Over time you will speed up immensely. Not a quick fix but definitely worth the effort.

Anybody else sick of DQS sometimes taking forever to download a job and then being told that it is either our computer's fault or our internet connection?? Every site having to do with MQ is as slow as molasses. Other Internet sites whiz along. Trying to check MQ E-mail, clock in, etc. is always a draaaaaaaaggggg. Is it their equipment or poor IT I wonder? Either way, once again makes you wonder about their accuracy on any of our numbers. Does anyone else have this problem? I can type a few words or a lengthy sentence, but the cursor is super slow and lags behind. Not only that, but the audio will just keep going until the cursor finishes "typing" what I did and will not respond to the foot pedal. I have told myself I would keep some kind of a diary recording the volume of work for different times of the year, yet have never actually done this. Hospital I work for just went from Dictaphone to Chartscript. My DSL (Frontier) is old and slow. When too many people are using the DSL, the speed slows WAY down and the jobs don't save. Fluency even slower in late afternoon. Now, I wait for ADT to pull in to accept a visit, but I can use Google within the platform with no issues. Now, I see it even adding to my inactive time. I know it is Fluency because all other electronics work fine.
