A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I am a newbie and have noticed on some of the job postings that they require you to have a c phone. Can anyone tell me exactly what this is used for and if it is common to have to use one and why it seems most are not company supplied ?
A C-phone is a telephone that acts like a transcription machine. You call a number and key in a code to have access to dictated files. The foot pedal and headset plug into the C-phone.
The reason why employers do not supply them is because very few MTSOs still use them, for maybe a handful of clients. It is going the way of the 8-Track cassette. The majority of Medical Transcriptionists who have them are Independent Contractors. Most of the larger volume is now handled by digital, straight into your computer, systems.
