Honestly what do you THINK goes on on a phone interview? That you'll swap chicken kiev recipes?
Have you never been on an interview before? I mean come on, it was a ridiculous question.
Not "ridiculous" at all. She just wanted an idea of what - sorts of questions would be asked. -sm

A recent phone interview for me consisted of a recap on my experience I'd listed on my application, my schooling, current specialties, favorite specialties, least favorite specialties, etc. There was a short, rather informal spelling/vocabulary test. Then I took their typing test, which I was allowed extra time on because I didn't have their kind of foot pedal. The next morning, they called back and offered the job, and the rest was a discussion of hours, line committments, and setting up a time when the techs could install their software on my PC. Interspersed between all of this was the usual bit of chit-chat, nothing unusual there. Just getting to know each other a little bit. Anyway, the interview was NOT trick questions, or a spelling test containing brand-new drugs that aren't even in the books yet, or rare treatments, etc. It was all just standard, routine material.

I've had interviews ranging from as little as here's the pay offered, do you want the position, okay get on and type and we will look over your work for a bit, to a 2-hour long conversation learning more than I ever needed to know about the recruiter's life, which was a nice interview but could have used a heads up regarding time to allow for interview. I also had an interview once where at the end of explanation of basics from recruiter, she gave me a pop quiz of about 20 questions, which I almost choked, but considering I didn't have op experience did fairly well. I hope someone gives you a little guidance on what to expect. Good luck!

Ask about the line count, because from the posted job, apparently the recruiter is not an MT and has no clue when posting the VBC based on the 65 character line, actually means if you are going to use the line count and compare it to the VBC, is 82 characters per line if they do not shorten the line to 54 characters (that's without spaces, 17% of your work). However, I understand they pay 0.9.5 cpl which in reality is about 8 cpl when you take away the spaces, so do not let the 9.3 cpl fool you into thinking you'll make money, YOU WILL NOT if they do not use the correct formula for the VBC which judging by the post do not.
They used to another company a few years ago, went out of business, laid off many MTs, and then changed their name and set up shop again, so I'd ask about that.
Remember you are interviewing them as much as they are you, especially in our buiness. I'd write down questions, because when we are on the phone it seems to go out the window and then we hang up and say, "OMG I forgot to ask this." Just some heads up from a former recruiter !
BTW: Your question was perfeclty valid, all interviews are different and I received many e-mails when I set up interviews asking what the interview entailed. The poster who answered you was the ignorant one not you.
Most importantly during any interview DO NOT PUT THE recuiter on hold, answer the door, have screaming children in the background, etc., this tells the recruiter that you have a lot of distractions at home and will unlikely not meet a line count or might compromise quality.

Write down your questions so you won't forget them and then write down the answers that the recruiter gives you. As an ex-Amphion employee, make sure you ask about cpl because they did not tell me they didn't pay for spaces and I thought 9.5 cpl was great. And ask how much of the work will be VR, which pays a lot less. They were not forthcoming with me regarding that either and most of my work was VR so I made nowhere near what I was before. They go by 'teams' so if you do take the job, hopefully you'll get on a good team.

My interview with Amphion back before Christmas was pretty straightforward. They asked me what I was hoping to make line rate wise, and made a note. They asked me what hours I was wanting to work, as that is what the job offer would be based on. When I told them that I was open to working third shift, I was pretty much told I had the job, unofficially.
There was no terminology test or anything like that during the interview, which I have had with other companies, so that was refreshing, as I was in the car going to pick up a friend's kids from school as they had had an emergency that day.
Honestly, I was pretty distracted during the interview, but did not feel pressured at all, and it felt more like a conversation with an old friend than anything else, which has been my experience with nearly everyone I have spoken with at the company, including my direct supervisor and my training person.
They did touch on the line rate, and did mention the VBC deal, the shift differential, and the VR percentage, which on my account, because of the platform, is high, but I find that I am still making a decent amount, even with the VR rate and the no spaces deal.
They do have three different platforms, and when I told them I didn't want to work on ExText because I used to do QA on ExText and hated it, they had no problem with that, and ended up offering me an Escription position. Escription, in my opinion is a much more user-friendly platform.
If you have any more specific questions, you can feel free to email me and I will answer to the best of my ability. I have not been with Amphion long, and I know some posters will say that I am still in the "honeymoon" period, but I am really happy that I took the plunge. I was nervous because of some things I have seen posted here, but I really have not had any problems so far since being here. Good luck with your interview and I hope to see you come aboard. There are 4 different teams, and each experience will be different, but I work on one team, and a friend is a proofer on another, and she said that team is about the same as mine with the family feel to it.
I have a phone interview for a transcription job coming up soon. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the interview will consist of and if anyone has any tips. ...
I have not had an interview in probably 17 years and I am freaking out. It is for a Transcription Specialist position, which is basically the customer service person in the transcription department, coordinates workflow, administrative suppor to the manager, and clerical support to the transcription and central scheduling areas.

Hi,
I have not had a phone interview in six years. I was laid off in September and finally got a response to my resume. Anyway what questions should I make sure I ask. In an email that was sent to me I know the hours, the pay and that it is an IC position. This company found my resume on a board that I posted in 2010. I don't want to name the company yet. I have never heard of them.
Thanks in advance.

waiting to see if they have anything for you? I interviewed with them over a week ago, told them what days I wanted to work. They said they would see what I accounts my schedule fits and get back with me and I still have not heard anything back yet? Anyone know if this is normal for them?

about the rate of pay. It is ridiculously low as it is and they said they were implementing higher pay. I have been here 3 months now and no changes. On top of that, they charge us to work for them!! I am going to tell them what I think of this. I have nothing to lose!!! ...
I left MM a few weeks ago and today got a call. They asked lots of questions about how satisfied or unsatisfied I was with MM and I answered them all as honestly as I could. When they asked if I thought any of their practices were illegal or unethical...I told them that hiring people to work for you and then expecting them to use their PTO or go without pay when there was not enough work was extremely unethical. Especially when you have many MTs with NJA daily and others with mandatory OT someti ...
Just wondered if anyone is happy. Currently tested and have an interview. It is for the current job posting. I am needing something part-time that actually has work. I have two jobs right now and one is more famine than feast and I really need to get away from that one. Hi everyone.
I need to ask a question, which I realize is dumb but here goes. I see that on the jobs listing part of the site there are a couple of companies who require a C-phone. Can someone tell me what this is ?? At first I thought it meant cell phone but realized that can't be right. Thanks everyone for your patience. I guess it is showing that I am an "old school" transcriptionist and do not know anything about newer technology (if this is new).
Take care all xo ...
Hi,
This is probably a stupid question, but I'm not a technical person so need some advice. I need a landline to hook up a C-phone. I am thinking my house phone is a landline, but hubby says no. We have charter, and the phone line we have goes into a modem which goes into the computer, and he says what is needed is for it to be able to hook into like a wall jack (or some type of something like a box on the wall). He did try to hook it up last night, and the ...
