Notified of 12% pay cut today :-( - what to do???

I just received notice that my line rate is decreasing 1 cpl. A year and a half ago it had dropped 1 cpl also... and all as an IC. This will hurt. But what to do? I will stay as it is good work, good management, I know most of the accounts.... some are buggers though..

Only 7-1/2 years until I can retire to at least part time... hope I can survive until then. No way can I put in anymore hours than I already am. I am hoping for an after-school babysitting job this fall.....fingers crossed.

My pay cuts started back in 2007 and BOB wasn't in the White House then. I've gone from 12 cpl to 9 cpl, and then to 4.5 cpl for VR. Since I'm not proficient in speech editing yet, I'm certainly not making double and probably won't for a while. That means more than 50% pay cut for me, and I've been dealing with these progressive cuts for 3 years now. It sounds like you're just starting to catch up. I do feel your pain.

What does Obama have to do with any of this? This mess was created over the 8 years of the previous administration. I had a great job that I loved, that had great benefits and paid me $16 an hour, and that was taken away from me in 2007 by the previous administration's stupid policies that ruined the economy. The economy tanked, our company ran out of work contracts and I was laid off and things haven't picked up since. The problem is that we have a system of government that cares only about the wealthy because wealth buys power. And power is the ultimate desire of those in office and those trying to get into office.

And remember NAFTA. Bush didn't invent globalization. - No prez did. It just happened. N/M

NAFTA wasn't Dubya's doing. It was the pet project of Bush the Elder, pushed trhough by Bill Clinton. It is important to remember that Clinton was not really pro-labor nor a real liberal.

Companies are selling out, sizing down, squeezing more work out of fewer people, giving pay cuts, why? Because of the economy. It could have been different if the so-called stimulus had actually all gone to creating real jobs. No one knows how deep the bottom goes and the admin is doing nothing but hampering business and hurting confidence. Go back to normal by voting him out -- you got to be kidding. We'll be lucky to ever get this country back to normal. Just goes to show how much damage one man can do.

It's been going on for 10 years, at least: ASR, outsourcing to India, big MTSOs gobbling up smaller ones.

Obama has been in office for less than two years. The economy went into the toilet before he got into office. You do know that, right? And, yes, he hasn't down a whole lot to change the situation, but don't give him more power than he has.

the economy has been on a slide, and MT going downhill for years, but Mr. hope and change has booted it plumb over the cliff. As far as giving him more power, don't worry, he'll continue to take more power with each passing year; you don't have to give it. And what about that campaign promise to make it unprofitable for companies to send their work and jobs overseas? A lot of talk, lots of appeasement, but no meaningful action.

Those of us who have been doing this for a while remember when there was actually a good living in it. I remember when we used to FEEL SORRY for anyone who made 11 cents a line. Now, no one makes that! During the Bush years, I saw my pay decreased by about half. Remember, it was Bush who said outsourcing was a good thing. What we are experiencing now is a continuation of a trend that started about 10 years ago.

DQS is driving me crazy today. When I push the pedal, it takes a couple seconds to start playing. If I let off the pedal, it keeps going for a couple seconds and I can't get it to stop. The typing I am doing does not keep up with my finger speed either, with words not showing up until after I've typed them. I use my own computer and have never encountered this issue before. It is a major hindrance though, slowing me down. What's next? ...
