This has been posted off and on for several days, and then the posts are taken down by the moderator. There is one still up from yesterday. It's interesting how angry some people are getting at these posts. How can someone not understand that it is not okay to rip workers off, to not give workers a living wage, or to give them less pay than they made 14 years ago?
I guess some people think it's okay that someone makes 20 times what the workers are making?
There have been ridiculous comments like--maybe he worked his way up from a bricklayer and he deserves the pay. Maybe someone who had been a bricklayer would have a conscience and know who deserves the real credit in a company.
Another comment about he has an MBA and other degrees. I have a bachelor's and 45 graduate credit hours. I cannot find a job in that field.
Someone made a comment on this board the other day about "MTs being stupid and picking the wrong profession. I should have gone to nursing school." I am getting a second bachelor's in nursing. Nurses' wages have been stagnant for years, and they get dumped on by everyone in the hospital. They are liable for mistakes, even if doctor wrote the order and pharmacist filled the prescription. For the knowledge and wisdom expected of a nurse working a 12 hour shift, the wages don't match. The pay in hospital heirarchy is administrators first, doctors second, seems like people in rehab next, then maybe nurses. The parking goes the same way. Nurses who get off work after dark or start after dark have to park in the furthest part of the parking lot, and the administrators who work 9-5 are right by the front door.
Justifying the salary of someone who has never done the work is ridiculous. CEOs are hired and paid specifically to make short-term profits for the companies they work for. That is their role. The board members are there to make sure that happens. The profits go into their pockets. If the CEO doesn't meet the goal of making a short-term profit, they are out, usually with a golden parachute. They make decisions they know hurt people. In this industry we are the people they hurt and steal from.
I am glad some of you are happy in your positions and think you make a good wage. I know for the level of my education, what used to be an good profession, and for the quality of work I do, I am not paid well. And I am not respected. Paying me a meagerly wage is only one way I am disrespected.
I also know from privately emailing people on this board that there are MTs who have cut deals with companies to only do one work type--for instance, if they are fast on op notes. How they manage that is beyond me. And the cherry picking, that's just how bad it is that people are stabbing each other in the back. Probably right where they want us, fighting amongst ourselves so we don't notice what they do or have the energy to do anything about it.
