How many MTSOs have reps posting on this board? - More than one, obviously.
Posted: May 26, 2012
Yes - I was born at night, but not LAST night.
how would anyone know for certain - its an anon board

I could say that I am, but I am really not, but maybe in my trying to convince you that I am not, you really think I am, but no one really knows for sure.
I believe it was a rhetorical question. - ...and one worth pondering.

Since I understand the technological and linguistic challenges of VR, to say nothing of the process of editing itself, I am very suspicious of messages claiming, for instance, speeds of 700 lph.
I am also suspicious of shrill posts from people who seem to feel threatened by any expression of dissatisfaction, and who seem to believe that the best form of defense is attack. They do this by immediately questioning the credentials, capabilities, experience, etc. of anyone who expresses frustration with VRE, the atrocious rates being paid for this *knowledge* work (emphasis on *knowledge*), etc.
I am suspicious of polyann-ish posts that nearly repeat, word-for-word, the constant drumbeat of childish happy-talk that team leads are prone to deliver.
Ditto, the posts that mimic the inane advice we get from the same sources - particularly this one: "Work more and complain less" - when they have no idea whether I might be (a) out of work, or (b) posting on my time off (as I am now).
That there *are* shills, plants and phonies on the forum is not the least bit in question, but it's interesting to speculate how many there are. Whatever the number, they stink up the place.
MTs are pretty good at context, and at reading - between the lines. Dead giveaway.
I'm with Nuance, seriously underpaid but not otherwise - abused. I represent myself and am otherwise

satisfied with the business. I prefer editing to transcribing and am good at it. Tighter schedules are unpleasant but justifiable, same for monitoring keystrokes.
IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.
Now, please stop with the pretense that all the people who're doing sort of okay or even better aren't valid members of this board. Am I on the same team as those who lower themselves to those tactics? No, relentless complaining and smear jobs aren't my style. But I'm not going anywhere either.
"Seriously underpaid but not otherwise abused"?? - Hello?
[ In Reply To ..]
The mind boggles. Seriously underpaid, but not OTHERWISE abused? I can't even wrap my brain around that.
So, WHY are you here? What on earth is everyone doing still in this field? Enjoying a nice slide and just waiting to hit rock bottom yet? Seriously. This has been happening, getting worse and worse, for years now. How can you stay when ultimate economic disaster at the bottom of the skid is the only option?
Paranoid - whocares
[ In Reply To ..]
Who cares anyway? This has caused paranoia on this board. In another thread, someone accused me of not being an MT, and that my identity was shown for real on Facebook. I was like, WTH? So, I replied with the company I work for and told them to call them and chill out. And, why did they say that? Because I SHARED SOMETHING NICE. Imagine that. That showed me that the % of MTs here take the cyber world way too seriously.
Paranoia for a few. Most are just mob attacking MTs who have - not joined their group. The problem, of course,
[ In Reply To ..]
is all the poor souls who come here for information and perspective and run into a board threatening to be swamped by this hooligan behavior.
We all of us need to keep reporting our own experiences--good, bad, indifferent, whatever. Simply, honestly, and in useful detail. Consider it a good deed, because it really is. Long after posts scroll down and are forgotten people trying to make important decisions are still coming by and searching them for the information they need.
They don't fool me either - because
[ In Reply To ..]
When things were going good for me some years ago, I felt no need to come to this board. Nowadays with minimum wage the norm and crappy VR, I come here to vent and gripe and complain, same as the rest of us, and to realize that I am not alone. That alone gives me some solace. That is not to say I don't have a plan for getting out, I do, I work on it daily, but for now I am stuck in this job and coming here helps keep me sane. These people who come here and talk about how well they are doing are not fooling anyone, they attack us for staying in a job that makes us unhappy or say we are negative or bitter. I've said this before on this board, why would MTs who are more successful attack those of us who are struggling? That's why I am not fooled.
men - really
[ In Reply To ..]
I hear what you are saying. I do believe, though, this would not be happening if this board were full of men. I am a proclaimed feminist, but here, I believe it's this underlying plague women have to compete against one another.
If MT were a man's field, all these problems likely - wouldve never happened. nm

I think there are a lot of men who are MTSO's. They do not know what being an MT means and they are only after the fast buck. One of the top guys (and I do mean guy) came to the hospital where I worked and tried to get the hospital to use his company. When we asked questions, he did not have a clue as to what was being asked.
House, it's not venting on problems we all share that - we object to. It is that
[ In Reply To ..]
for some people just venting doesn't do it. Indulgence of THEIR feelings requires lies, buckets of them one after another. Raging the boards with verbal torches. Malice. Distortion. Abusing other MTs who try to maintain some kind of balance.
As for "attacks" by successful MTs who suggest trying harder and better would pay off, if you're a good MT, normally work your schedule fairly industriously without goofing off, and have developed your skills and speed continually over the years (in other words, a normal competent MT), we aren't talking to YOU.
If you came here and admitted to some combination of being a goof-off, lazy, slow, sloppy, bad at grammar and punctuation, but did NOT put all the blame for your low income on your employer, we weren't talking to YOU either. (Of course, who ever does that?)
If you spent 20 years in a hospital or clinic as a valuable hourly pay worker before everything changed, now find employers consider you hopelessly slow and underskilled, are even slower at editing than transcription, and are unable to make a living, BUT you ask how to get better, for sure people always are glad to offer helping hands and share the tips it took them months and years, and considerable personal investment, to develop. This is a great place to come for help.
Here's the issue: This field is full of normal competent MTs of average skill level putting in their hours regularly, working steadily, not slaving and not goofing off either, who should be paid a living income in return for their service. By that I mean $30-40K working full time.
Their story is being LOST in the mud kicked up by people who come here complaining that they can't even make the minimum wage a sweeper at Arby's makes (typically in spite of 20 years' experience) because they're being cheated.
Umhm. Can't even make as much as a sweeper does and it's all somebody else's fault. Something is really wrong with that picture, and everybody knows it. Competent MTs really need to stop letting these people claim to represent them to the world, claim to be typical MTs, because everybody also knows employers watching these boards are all hoping and praying they don't accidentally end up hiring people who behave like that. There are undoubtedly some very sad stories and problems hiding behind some of these furious postings, but personal problems are not industry issues we can expect the companies to address.
Translation - If I'm failing, then EVERYONE must be failing - Ad Nauseum
Why don't all of you collectively start a new forum, such as "Miserable and/or Failing MTs Unite" or something similar.
Successful MTs "sure aint foolin ME" yet you're "foolin'" yourself by refusing to believe some are doing quite well in this business.
If you're so miserable that you've decided ANY MT with a positive experience is a "spin doctor" (lol), why even bother to open up a positive post? Just so you can post back and attempt to discredit anyone who doesn't wallow in the trough full of misery with you?
Pathetic. IMO, just plain crazy and delusional. I suspect the very negative attitude you display towards EVERYONE who expresses a positive experience is probably at the root of your lack of success and misery at your job.
JMHO, of course.
If we are employed by an MTSO, then one way or another - We indeed ARE their reps
[ In Reply To ..]
Just because not everyone is miserable and failing does not mean we're somehow compensated for expressing a positive opinion.
The disgruntled MTs on this board really need to look within themselves as to why *they* are not succeeding in this field.
To keep deluding yourself that if another MT is not miserable and failing in this field, and accusing those MTs that are successful of being "suits," "liars" and now apparently "agents", does an even greater disservice to yourself than it does to the other MTs.
Putting it bluntly, if the postings of successful and happy MTs on this board elicits this type of negative response in you, then perhaps you should consider taking a break from the boards and look into more productive ways to spend your free time.
I thought that MTStars.com touted itself as the kind of site that would not aid companies who offshore work - yet they allow Assistmed to post on their job board for management positions? I know first hand that Assistmed offshores to India. Disappointed to see this taking hold on here. ...
Would it be such a problem to list all aspects, including pay, in the job ads? MTSOs, could you please not go on and on about how great you are and give us information we need so as not to waste your time and ours? Why make us jump through the hoops of resume, application, and testing. This is a very time consuming process, especially since we will apply to more than 1 job?
In addition to equipment needed, IC/employee, platform, shift, etc., what is your production requi ...
I was wondering if anyone on this board has posted a resume on this board and their employer saw it. I want to post my resume, but I do not want to feel the rath of my employer if they found out or saw it listed on this board. I need my job right now,but I also need to feed my family, and no longer wish to be the MT who is understanding and sitting at the computer all day.
So, I guess what I am asking is can I post my resume and leave my name off it somehow? Has anyone posted their ...
Has anyone actually gotten a call back or an E-mail from this company other than "your resume has been received and we will contact you in 30 days if we are interested." It seems as soon as you hit the "send" button, that message is sent. I wonder if they are "phishing" and not really looking to hire anyone. ...
This has been posted off and on for several days, and then the posts are taken down by the moderator. There is one still up from yesterday. It's interesting how angry some people are getting at these posts. How can someone not understand that it is not okay to rip workers off, to not give workers a living wage, or to give them less pay than they made 14 years ago?
I guess some people think it's okay that someone makes 20 times what the workers are m ...
I am hopping on this in order to warn newer MTs DO NOT FALL FOR THIS, it is a SCAM! Don't get burned by this company---they are about as honest as a 3 dollar bill. Please search archives for info...there are a lot of scams out there now, just another joy of being an MT these days. ...
I am curious about something. I see the ads you all post here and then I see all the posts on the Job Wanted board.
Why wouldn't you offer your positions to those MTs who take the time and initiative to post on the Job Wanted board?
I just don't understand why you would want the daunting task of filtering through hundreds of replies which you surely get when you advertise when you have a page full of eager MTs?
...
Kind of wondering if this last job posting on the jobs board might be associated with one of those "you pay us to find you a job" type of organization. I googled Medical Jobs Online and found nothing stating that are a legitimate MTSO :( ...
How can they ask you to work stated hours if you are an IC? I see this all the time. They want an employee, full time, but an IC. Don't understand all that. ...
these jobs are out there and this is along the norm. Don't - DO NOT - buy into the $30 or $45 an a/h baloney. They are ripping you off. Yes, I'm back on my soap box LOL. ...
According to the job posting this company is based in San Francisco. The stated pay rate averages $241.00 per month. If I were this company, I would embarrassed to advertise the pathetic pay they give their MTs in one of the most expensive cities in the country. If it weren't so tragic that there are desperate people out there looking for a job, it would be laughable. ...
This on the job board today:
"XXXX is looking for an experienced QA person to start immmediatly. We are also looking for MT's that have expereince in cardiology (esl), er and discharge summary experience."
Yes, I think that QA person does need to start "immediatly". ...
I noticed that posting and sent an email. Pretty sure they posted something similar before because my email had saved their address in it. Never heard back though. Does anyone remember this besides me? Did anyone get hired? Or a call? Or an interview? $2.50 a report, for anyone who has never been paid per report, is excellent! ...
I have a POSTER pet peeve.
When a comment or question is posted about a specific company, why is the original poster likely to never elaborate? Why are they wasting everyone’s time?
What is up with these hit-and-run posts? Someone makes an outrageous comment or asks a question implying something negative. Then when you answer and either ask for more information or ask the original poster a question, the original poster is long gone – never to be heard ...
Concerned about the posting from the Midwestern MT who said she had work to be done from TransTech and here we all are sitting and checking and no work. Wondering now about this new SWAT team thing. From what I was told that the 'beast of the business' is they worry about TAT because they have to take a cut in their portion of the line count wages, so they'd rather meet the TAT? And yes, we are all cross trained pretty much anyway, but they want lightening speed. ...
What is up with this? They have plenty of inside people to ASK if they want this work?? I don't get it. How about the old saying from companies that they "hire within first" because they treat the employees with respect since they have been there and are 'loyal.' So, many scraping for work and being exhausted by the demands of having to produce for pennies. Where is this job going? Where is the labor board? We only have this board. ...
