Oh just great! NOT No OT pay for me. - dnr

Posted: Mar 03, 2011

I was just informed that, even though I worked OT in my time zone (PST) and before my shift (second shift), their day is in CST, so anything after their midnight (CST) goes to the next day - that days and hours count in CST. Geez, maybe I should be working my shift in CST hours. That could be nice. I would get to start 2 hours earlier and stop at a more decent hour. This stinks like week-old fish, and I'm thinking the Calif EED might look at it a different way!

How can you expect OT - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
if you don't work MORE than 8 hours in a SHIFT. OT has nothing to do with a calendar day, but how many consecutive hours you work in a shift. The 8-hour rule is only in certain states. For other states, it is anything OVER a 40-hour week.

I worked my 8-hour shift + 1.5 hours. With their logic, - dnr

[ In Reply To ..]
I should do my hours according to CST which means I could go to bed at a decent hour in my time zone.

OT doesn't have to be consecutive. You can work an extra hour 2 hours before your shift and then start your shift at the scheduled time.

California requires anything over 8 hours in a day (the worker's day).

Surely, you arent suprised? THis is the Q, after all. - And dont call me Shirley. nm

It was not this way before Spheris came on board. - dnr
[ In Reply To ..]
Payroll is probably being done by Spheris as they are probably cheaper. I had been offered a job by Spheris in the past, and did not accept because of their already poor pay, and now here I am, lumped in with them because of CBay. Never in my life did I think I would be working for CBay. Hopefully I will have my act together soon and leave this place.
yes it was, u r just feeling it now, others felt - it before the spheris
[ In Reply To ..]
nm

but other states are by a 40 hour week, u - can work 10 hour days

[ In Reply To ..]
and not go over 40 hours and working only 4 days and not get overtime pay

Puleeze. I work in the time zone my MTSO in. Impossible - to keep track of ppl time otherwise. Can SM

[ In Reply To ..]
you imagine them having to keep track of 3=4 different time zones for 20-30 ppl? It only makes sense for all to work according to the time zone the MTSO is in. Geesh.

They were able to do it before they changed to using the - Spheris payroll people. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
.

They have to keep track in the states - No brainer

[ In Reply To ..]
that OT is to be paid over 8 hours in a day regardless of what time zone MTSO is in or what hours the employee works, it's the law and these people should contact their DOL if MQ is not following the law. The number of employees is not an excuse to get out of following the law and paying people what they owe them, Geesh.

OT In California - Really?

[ In Reply To ..]
Did you call EDD yet? How is this is even legal? I'm in So. California as well, and no one mentioned this time zone thing to me when I was hired... not that it matters, given that making minimum wage seems to be an impossibility based on everything I have seen of ASR in the last 3 weeks. Sad, I'm worth more dead than I am alive given my life insurance policy... 30 years in the business and this is what I can look forward to. Good Lord.

I discovered that this was being done when I - dnr

[ In Reply To ..]
discovered the time calculations link at the top of the time card. It' has been such a chore to figure out my time worked during MY shift they way they have it set up, and, when I found the time calculations link, I could see how they were crediting the time worked. I don't see how this can possibly be legal in California. They paycheck stubs are hell to figure out, and I thought I wasn't paid some overtime that I did during the last couple pay periods, so I'm going to have to go back and try to figure it out using the time calculations link.

Another example of how a platfor can be rigged to screw us - anyway the MTSO wants. nm

[ In Reply To ..]

another example like ASR changing the - word dictated to a
[ In Reply To ..]
smaller word, example, dictated "demonstrates" ASR types "showed".
means screw job

You should report this to the DOL - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Under California labor laws, working either over 8 consecutive hours or over 40 hours in one week is considered overtime. It doesn't matter that your company is in a different state or in a different time zone.

If the employee lives in the State of California, that employee is covered under California labor laws and the company (no matter where in the world they are located) must abide by those laws.

Seriously, I would report this to the California Department of Labor. They aren't going to care how your company keeps track of your time or what time zone they keep it in. If you work over 8 consecutive hours, the DOL will make sure that you get paid overtime for anything over 8 hours.

I plan to do that. They had the states straight - dnr

[ In Reply To ..]
before payroll went to Spheris payroll. MQ payroll did everything they could to make sure they were in compliance. I understand why MQ/CB is consolidating the departments, but they are obviously picking the cheapest rather than the best. Seen this done in the past with other companies.

Found out that they can start and end a 24-hour day - anytime they want. No OT for me.

[ In Reply To ..]
No OT for me as a result of me being 2nd shift and the days I work. Even though my hands are hurting because I started early to do overtime, because the new day starts during my shift, rarely will I ever end up with overtime. I already give this company too much for free - ADT searches and checks, doctor cc's (numerous automatic) required by the client and intricate formatting required by the client (many headings and other peculiarities which slow ASR editing to a crawl). OT just isn't worth it.

I noticed they went to 3.5 cents this time. It's usually 3 cents. Hmmm... maybe having a difficult time enticing people to work extra hours???
I noticed that too - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I noticed the 3.5 cents. It does no good when you get all unfamiliar accounts and many of them require going to QA for over 3 blanks. Why would I do extra to help them when you can't get enough work to get the bonus and then if you have unfamiliar accounts that have to go to QA and you end up over the 5%, they take your pay from you.

What a joke.

Spheris payroll - oldspheris

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm former Spheris/bought out by MQ. I live in a state where OT is anything over 40 hrs/work week. I do not live in the CST zone. If I'm even 3 minutes over my 40 hrs/week, I see it paid on my pay stub. Something isn't right there.

Great Line Counts Require Great Dictators.
Feb 11, 2015

I'm always over 200 until I get Mr. Mumblemouth who knows he is not forming actual words when he hums through the PE, as my counts plummet to as loiw as 75 LPH.   Then I get a long report from an excellent fast-talking dictator and my LPH jumps to 340.   Question:  Why is it that the MTSO does not comprehend the fact that our production depends on the capability of the provider to dictate correctly?   The horrid dictators are never told they are doing anything wrong as ...

I edit radiology V.R. Reports and Had to post this one..This just goes to show you how well V.R. really works. He said: Patient motion OBSCURES detail with multiple scans repeated multiple times to little AVAIL. Thank God this doctor knows he needs an editor. Most hospitals are letting the doctors "edit" their own work (which they don't do and just sign the stuff and let it go thru b ...

Great Grammar
Nov 14, 2009

It is very interesting to me, now that I have completed the Allied MT course, that grammar was were never taught, besides in high school. The BOS was required, but no emphasis was ever placed on needing excellent grammar skills. I am completely discouraged by the numerous negative and cynical remarks on this site.  MT is a field I choose because I wanted a second career. I am a recent widow, and frankly feel very down because of the many of the comments. Still without a job and very discou ...

A Great Clarification Of Buy-Out
Feb 04, 2010

Please see the following article from - I think - Business Week, regarding the buy-out of Spheris.  I think it should make us all breathe a little easier.  It seems to clarify that there are 2 separate worlds, and that MQ intends to keep its U.S.-based transcription entirely separate from CBay's India-based transcription: Spheris, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a Delaware court on Wednesday, already has two buyers lined up for the privately owned company: MedQuist Inc. ...

Why Is It When You Are Having A Great Production Day,
Jun 07, 2010

the work seems to disappear? I was doing over 400 lph and now no work. This happens every time I have great lph. Can companies do a switch-a-rooney, keeping the work away from people or can the platform be 'fixed' that if you hit a certain lph, no work will download to you? I'm really curious about this. I've been watching this happen for a couple months now. ...

This Is Great......I Love It!!!!!!
Aug 16, 2010

So, I got this super long report with HORRIBLE audio.  When I got finished it looked like a piece of Swiss cheese it had so many blanks.  I didn't even CONSIDER sending it to QA as the audio was just terrible and there was NO way I was sending a report that long...and then get paid 3 cents a line because it might put me over 5% QA submission.  So, I just sent it straight through, expecting to get a call from my CCM on why I sent so many blanks, which, of course I was prepared ...

I Have A Great Idea
Aug 19, 2011

Why don't all of us who are tired of everything join forces and form our own company.  We live all over the country, know how to do the work, know how to QA, know different platforms.  Hundreds of us together could market our own vicinity and work together like a coop.  We would all make the big bucks.  It has to work, as we are the people who keep the large companies in business.  Coops work with any other business, why not with this.  What do you think ...

wouldn't it be really great if there was some sort of email address for us to contact our hospitals directly...without the M*Modal propaganda?  We could say "Dear Dr. ___, I understand you are really busy and dictation is low on your priority list, but if you could take an extra moment and clearly articulate your dictation, the reports would come back to you with less questions and/or errors."   I know...I know...quit dreaming.  It is really sunny and warm outside my window ...
