My updated TAA info. - why bother

Posted: Jan 12, 2010

Unless and until I file for unemployment or have a letter from the Q stating a date that I will be laid off, I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR TAA.

I was told that in order for them to consider PRE-LAY OFF status, I have to have a letter.

I was also told that becuase I only work part-time, and have a 2nd job, I will not qualify for unemployment, so I will not be able to qualify for TAA even if I get laid off.

I have no idea how others on this board are getting meetings and information that they will qualify for funding for school!

I know that the Q will never lay me off anyway, they will fire me becuase of low QA scores, not meeting line requirements, not punching in and out properly, or for putting in an incorrect cc and then I will owe them money as well.

I am going back to my original plan, keep working until the fire me, fine me or whatever they are going to do to me, become even more depressed in the process, lose my house, live in a box under the nearest bridge I can find and hold up a sign that says "Just kick me... the rest of the world has, why should you feel left out!"

Bye friends...

why bother - anon

I'm in a similar situation as you. May I ask what state you live in?

All MQ employees are pre-layoff status, thus qualify to apply - xyzzzz

From below--Based on new rules signed in place very recently, end of 2009, PRE-LAYOFF status applies to Medquist workers. You should call someone else if you can and just request the packet of information/application. If the staff are unwilling to help, there is a federal office that can assist you. The person sounds nice but not THOROUGHLY informed, perhaps he meant to be though. The Medquist petition applies to ALL MTs working at home in every state. Once the application is submitted, then a determination is made about eligibility. The person you spoke with is only a provider of information, not the main determiner of who is eligible. Although Medquist is located in Laurel, New Jersey, the petition submitted at the federal level was approved on behalf of ALL MTs that qualify. It is not based on whether you are already laid off. This is the typical requirement for regular layoffs to apply for unemployment. TAA has different rules and a different process, which includes PRE-LAYOFF.

I was told the exact same thing. YOu have to have a letter from MQ saying WHEN you will be laid off. Like MQ is EVER going to do that. I am thinking aboutg calling HR just to see what they say. I'll let you guys know what they say. I gotta call my lawyer now. Have to talk about Bankruptcy and how I can not lose my house. Real problems here. So I KNOW what you are feeling. *****

**** Language edited out. Leave it out, period. ****

The real fu**ed up thing about it is MQ isn't telling us anything, and meanwhile people are losing things. I am so aggravated, and depression is setting in. Find it hard to even come across the hall to log in to see NO WORK. So tired of life getting so heavy. I used to be afraid of dying, now dying doesn't seem like such a bad thing anymore. I welcome it. At least the fight will be over. Not going to commit suicide, but if it comes, I'm not afraid anymore.

Here's what I did, and it worked - hopeful

I copied the petition certifying MQ employees' eligibility poster here 01/06. To prove my work had been cut, I copied emails from my managers about NJA. I took my paystubs showing how much my pay had been reduced. I took the MW NJA policy to them also. I copied the articles that people kindly posted here about MQ offshorting thousands of jobs to India. The Workforce people were stunned that this is happening and agreed that I met the criteria to apply.

How about this??? I call HR and the person that answered had no clue what I was talking about, so now someone is going to call me back. Now, they know who I am. I wonder what will happen next. Keep you all posted.

WOW -- You should open your own ADVOCACY office - -- grrrrrrrt job

You are more than 100% proactive about getting TAA. Great job. What state? This may help others who are saying they don't qualify.

why do we have to jump through hoops.... - sm

in order to prove we qualify for these benefits?

MQ has a petition number now because all the research has already been done on them before being added to the official list for TAA, etc.

I sent out emails to two contacts according to the websites listed on below posts and indicated to give me the correct contact information if it was wrong. I included the petition number and a very brief summary of my current working situation. I also asked for the paperwork, brochures, etc., to be sent to me.

I received an email back indicating that all the information requested was being sent to me. However, the person also indicated they thought I had to qualify for unemployment first and wouild probably need more detailed information. But also said to stay tuned as any updated information would be sent out to me as it was recieved.

Right now I'm crossing my fingers that it will all work out for me.

If you have a full-time job with another MTSO - then you may not be eligible

Even under the "traditional" rules about qualifying for unemployment, you are not allowed to work full-time and collect unemployment insurance. Yes, the Medquist TAA petition does offer training and other benefits, but I'm not so sure this is the case if you are working already at another full-time job and earning an income.

I'm wondering if anyone has some updated information on ANP transcription? I've searched and found some older info regarding late payment, low rate. It is legal as long as the pay the employee receives adds up to at least minimum wage for all the hours they spend working, at any speed, slow or fast, and correctly and incorrectly.  Some economic experts say that, "An easi ...

I Just Need To Add, Regarding The CMT Info
Mar 26, 2010

My current CCM is one of the best of the many I've had. I had previously worked with her on this account from1999 until we were sold to MQ in 2005; she is my 6th or 7th CCM here at MedQuist. She is very familiar with our hospital, very friendly, easy to communicate with, quick to answer emails, and always keeps us up to date. The CMT differential was mentioned earlier as part of MQ new plan; if you have not heard yet, maybe your CCM has not gotten around to it.  The 0.005 cpl i ...

Info On OSI?
Jul 19, 2010

So what is there to know about OSI before I make a life-changing decision? Minimum line count for FT? Approximate cpl for a "very experienced" MT, for straight typing; cpl for VR? Do they use 65 ch/l? I heard that their system apparently allows MTs to produce +30%...I find that extremely hard to believe. I'm doing 250-300 l/hr consistently on my relatively ancient system, using AutoCorrect on Word, rather than a regular abbreviation program. How in the world could OSI's system impr ...
