I know it's hard trying to find a job but KS isn't worth your time.. you won't even make minimum wage and they certainly don't care. From what I hear, they used to be a decent company but not now. Nepotism is ridiculous... They've hired a lot of family whether they're qualified for the job, and believe me, they aren't qualified! The owners live the high life now I guess... that's what the older MTs say. Gotten too big for their britches and don't give a crap what they do to their employees. I don't know how they sleep at night.

Does anyone currently work for Keystrokes? I have been offered a position with them and everyone seems really nice, but the only 2 comments here are not good. Could someone please give me the specifics as to why KS is such a horrible company to work for, i.e not enough work, bad QA or what? Thanks!

I am a current employee. We are struggling with not enough work and the pay sucks. If you want the job then go for it and see what happens. you might be one of the lucky ones that gets on a good account and can make some money. I'm making nothing, not even minimum wage with them. They told a fellow MT that they pay you minimum wage if you don't get enough work but that's a lie. So see what happens but if you currently have a job, don't quit it. do both to see if it will work out. just my opinion.

I would be doing primarily Radiation Oncology and have a Medical Oncology account as my second one. I have no info about KS because very little is posted here, but I need a job that will support me and pay all my bills! How is everyone to work with like QA and management? Have you worked for them for a long time?

Seriously, just read the archives. Since they are always hiring (high turnover), there is a new KS thread begun about every week.

Leads are allowed to cherrypick the jobs, leaving the crud for the MTs.

Paychecks are late at LEAST once per year.

There is not enough work as accounts are overstaffed.

Of course "everyone seems really nice!" They just offered you a position. What did you expect?

So are you saying that no one at KS can make a living typing for them full-time? I imagine it does depend on what account(s) you are on, but I would think and hope some people are able to support themselves by working there, but maybe not! All I know is, I need a full-time MT job that will fully support me, so now I'm wondering if this would be a good fit or not?

If you are looking for honest opinions on KS or any company, this is NOT the place to look anymore.

Nepotism at Keystrokes and the owners living the high life seem to be the thread. However, I know the owners from working there a long time and they do not live the high life. Quite the opposite actually; the owner works a lot of hours. You can email her day or night and get a pretty fast response. As for the nepotism, there are a few family members, her sister and two SIL's that work there and 2 or 3 friends. Out of 600 employees, that's hardly nepotism.

I make great money, most others that I know within the company make great money and they are one of the few good companies left. I am a single mom with a daughter in college and two sons in high school, and I am the only support.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. As I said, most of us won't post anymore because we are attacked. Watch it begin now :)

Thanks so much for your comments. It's nice to hear that it's a good company to work for where I could possibly earn enough money to support myself! I have to say I don't see a lot of positive comments about many companies posted here, but I know there has to be some out there and I hope KS turns out to be the one for me! One thing I really like is the fact I would NOT be an IC, but an employee. How are the benefits, like the health insurance which is something I really need?

You have to make a certain line count in order to be eligible for benefits.

I knew 1 other MT who was able to do that. Even then, she could not afford the atronomically high health ins. so only had dental and vision.

There is a lack of work, so chances are you won't meet the minimum either (I couldn't).

I hope you will come back in 6 mos. or a year and tell us about your experience with them.

I just started at KS about a month ago. I listened to the naysayers and then turned them down. After thinking about it I called back and they kindly accepted my apology and I am glad, so far, I did. I had a lot of computer problems, etc and ended up having to get a new computer. They worked with me, changed me to an acute care account which is where my experience is. I had great team leads in the beginning and now. Haven't gotten my 1st check yet (comes on the 3rd or Monday) following so can't comment on that. Other than 2nd which I am not fond of, so far so goo. Glad I changed my mind. Make up your own mind. So far not great money, but its getting there.

but I'm one of those that hasn't had a good experience with KS. I did respond to do what you want tho because you never know.... I hear some very good things about KS and said that if you get on a good account then it should work for you. My supervisor does not seem to know what she's doing. I don't know if she was ever an MT either as she certainly doesn't act like she cares about any of us.
so go for it and I really hope it works out for you. and please do let us know as well because we all want to know!

It doesn't take all the MTs in the company to be family to make it a bad situation. The main office and higher ups are ALL related, as well as some team leads. There is no objectiveness when it comes to the top of the totem pole and that's GARBAGE.

You can't tell me that they aren't living the high life. Google some of the names of the upper management and you can find out what their salaries are. At the same time, the MTs are being nickeled and dimed to DEATH and losing money. I could go on and on.

Marilyn, you can make up your own mind, but I feel sorry for you if you choose to believe one of their cheerleaders.

I have worked for Keystrokes for 9 years. The only family there are the owners, her sister, his sister and her SIL. Their son works there in the summers.

You also cannot google their salaries. I just tried, and nothing comes up. They are not publically traded like some of the others, so it is not public information.

You really have it out for Keystrokes, and I have sat back and watched in disgust. The good thing is that most see right through you.

I have been there for over a year. Paycheck has ALWAYS been on time. The account managers I have worked under have been very good. They do not bug me with 100s of emails or IMs - just let me type and get my pay. Frankly I do not care if they are all brothers and sisters - as long as they are Americans, treat me with respect, and pay me fairly. A lousy account and a poor manager can make the best comapny a miserable experience.

Job. Do the work. Get paid. Nobody told me I had to be "special" to get paid, just do the job. I wonder...maybe if I figured out what "special" was I could get a raise???? Whatever. Truth is...I am just another set of hands to the company, but they pay me on time and I have no problem with KS.

My paycheck has never been late and I have plenty of work on my account. Leads dont seem to be the cherry pickers, if anyone is a cherry picker, it is the unprofessional MTs that you will encounter anywhere you work.....I am on a difficult account with lots of really difficult foreign docs, but the leads help me out with them and the more I work with these docs the easier they are to understand. Yes, they are nice, still, even after I was hired.

at least for me. I have no complaints. I received excellent feedback on my new account that had some pretty tight specs. I still receive the same excellent feedback now that I am about 5 months into my job. I was able to get the days and hours I requested, and the pay isn't bad, certainly not what I was making after working over 10 years at a local hospital as an employee, but not bad. QA at KS, at least on my account, is wonderful and extremely helpful. I have not encountered all the problems that are voiced here on this site, perhaps these folks were just not a good fit with their account....or maybe had a "bad attitude"....I am trying to be nice but I just cant see all the negatives about KS.....I havent encountered this at all.....

Of course you are bashing, you were obviously let go. If it was bad, you would have quit. - hmmmm

The hiring process was totally disorganized, but I decided to give this company a try even though that was my first red flag.

I was assigned to what would have been an appropriate acute care account. This was actually a newly acquired company by KS, so the main office and the acquired company had many miscommunication issues. I was dealing with more than one HR person, two office sites, an MT supervisor who was new to KS. There were many days and many wasted hours of technical problems trying to get the weird platform set up. But, they were in desperate need of my working on this account. When I did finally get to work, this platform was painfully slow and not MT friendly, and it was also obvious that there was minimal work on the account.

I was no longer willing to loose income by spending unpaid time with this company. This adventure cost me quite a bit in phone bills and lost income/time. Of note, the insurance was absolutely not affordable.

I've dealt with other companies that did not work out, but KS sits on my top 5 list of absolute worst experiences.

Unless and until I file for unemployment or have a letter from the Q stating a date that I will be laid off, I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR TAA. I was told that in order for them to consider PRE-LAY OFF status, I have to have a letter.  I was also told that becuase I only work part-time, and have a 2nd job, I will not qualify for unemployment, so I will not be able to qualify for TAA even if I get laid off.
