That would be the best thing that ever happened to any of you. A month ago, I was working for M*Modal and bringing home $200-$400 per paycheck. A month later, I'm bringing in $80,000 per year. That's because when I was 50 years old I started college.
Some of you think you are too old to get a new job...the average age at my new job is 55. Many of the people in the company are in the 70's, and there is a handful that I'm sure is in their 80's and possibly 90's. People are not retiring like they used to. Companies - and schools - are full of elderly people now.
To get student loans for both a Bachelors and a Masters degree your loan payment at the end is roughly $280 per month. I assure you, if you get a reasonable degree that is useful - not something like Russian art history - you will not be sorry.
I worked full-time last year as an MT and made $15,000 for the year, working nights, holidays, and weekends. I lived with my grown children, went without medical care, ate 12 cent ramen noodles, and had no dependable car.
Now I make $65,000 a year more than I made last year. I have a new car, don't work nights or weekends. The company is closing for Good Friday, so I'll get a 3-day weekend.
I hope M*Modal does close so each and every one of you will be forced to have better. I would love to see this forum filled with happy success stories.

Mechanics make a lot of money, especially diesel mechanics. You should go for it!

[ In Reply To ..]Several people have said they were unsuccessful. Told they had to be laid off. Also, to get any money, you cannot start school until approved for the money. I decided not to bother with waiting on the government. I went ahead and enrolled in a paralegal program now rather than hope for money and wait until the next session next year, especially since I found an accelerated program.

[ In Reply To ..]I just called up the University of Phoenix and they helped me fill out all the paperwork. I had an amazing experience all 4 years, and within 3 months of graduation got a job paying $80,000 a year.
My daughter did her MBA at Univ. of Phoenix and immediately upon graduation got a $30,000 a year raise at her current job. She paid off all her student loans within one year, and now she's making a 6-figure income.
We both did all the classes online.
My sister finished her Bachelors degree with Univ of Phoenix 2 days ago.
It has really improved our quality of life a LOT.
My husband did too. Just finished - a year ago and worked FT.

You will probably have to leave your name and number, but they called me back the next day. I have been accepted. I did not fill out an application, I talked to the national person and they directed me to the state person. I told them I am not laid off and explained how this company works. They don't lay us off, they just starve us out.

This is the third time I have tried, once with each petition and I had to fill out the paperwork each time and was denied each time because there is no lay off date, even though the papers say the "threat" of a lay off.
I went as far as getting course information and filling in the price for school and everything before being denied. I thought for sure I could this last time.
There is a TON of paperwork and they would not just let you call and give you money.

It was several phone calls between the national and my state and me sending information and them contacting people and so forth. When I first contacted the state, they never even heard of TAA. When I contacted the national, they asked me for a layoff date and I told them I did not get laid off, this company does not lay people off and told her I considered sitting here without work after they just sent a bunch of work to India a threat of layoff. It went from there. Now I had a case worker call me and I will be meeting with her, she said to explain what help I will be getting. It was not just a phone call. So, I don't know, I will let you know.
And my state told me NO - They absolutely would not

BEWARE THOUGH, soon you will love your classes and feel good about yourself and so happy knowing you have done something great in your life to the point when you go to sit down at your desk and look at the MM computer to work, YOU WILL LOATHE THIS COMPANY and not want to work and cannot wait to quit and think to yourself (why the heck didn't I do this years ago).

Every single person at the college has been outstanding to work with. I love it here and I hope to go on to graduate studies eventually here too.
I do not get any aid due to mine being used up from college years ago. So I am currently looking for another job that pays more so I can pay for my classes. Even though JP Morgam owns M-Modal now, I was not allowed to use the tuitiion discount JP has with UOP and MM does not offer any tuition assistance, although I was told "this is on the table for consideration."

[ In Reply To ..]I've heard a lot of good things about UOP but I believe they only offer a Criminal Justice program. Maybe one day I'll be motivated enough to find a reliable online source to work on becoming a paralegal.

The SUNY (State University of New York) has many online degrees, and paralegal can be taken completely online through a few of the community colleges and include an internship. I have been a student at 2 SUNY schools and they are excellent.

I thought they were 2 different services. Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows. All the small companies have been merged I guess. I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR. Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

I have another question. When one does a draft in VR, does MT get paid for all lines in the draft or would an MT get paid if it has to be edited. I will be trying to learn this in the next few weeks and I am scared to death I will not catch on and then I might be without a job.  I have a feeling I might not get paid for the whole draft report. Then again it may depend on the company. Any opinions please.  Thanks ...

Our company recently outsourced us and we are being offered jobs w M-Modal. I have seen all of the negative comments but I was wondering how bad the pay is. I typed about 220 lines/hour doing straight typing and they are saying their average for voice rec is 220/lines per hour. If that were the case you'd be making nothing! Can anyone give me any input? Would appreciate feedback from anyone using M-Modal, especially Webmedx Enterprise MTs. Dreading the conversion and wondering if my fears are well founded. I'm pretty fast straight typing but rarely get more than 50 lines more an hour with current VR. Seems all it takes is just one lousy report to negate the lines made on the decent reports. Afraid it's just going to be worse with M-Modal and the whole drop-down heading thing. Anyone have any encouragement to offer? ...

I know there are a lot of comments on here about M-modal being horrible and I have to definitely agreed, it is the only VR I have used so nothing to really compare it to but cannot do many more lines per hour than I transcribe (usually about 275 lph or so), anyone willing to share how much they do on M-modal and how long the account has been on VR? Just my curiosity since I don't seem to make any progress in increasing my lines per hour. Thanks in advance. ...

If paid by the line, if M*Modal creates a report consiisting of 75 lines, and you edit a few lines here and there, are you paid for the entire report (the full 75 lines) or just paid for what lines you edit? ...
