Everyone on this board is complaining, but it seems - you all are still with MM

Posted: Oct 16, 2012

So, there must be something keeping you there. There are many other MTSO's you can apply to. I am not trying to start a flame or upset anyone. Only inquiring, because I am considering applying. I have taken their test and passed. I have had one interview, but I have delayed filling out the final application to get the second interview because of all I read on this board. Is there no one making a decent line count, I mean at least 32,000 dollars a year, are the benefits that bad. I would really love to hear some specifics as to what is keeping you there, and what are the pros and cons. TIA

And the MTSOs will be gobbled up - Chomp Chomp Chomp

and eventually it will be MNuance.

You mean, MMNuance - forgot an M

[ In Reply To ..]
Or, better yet, ABCDEFGHIJKLMMNuance!

Which is we all could m*make m*more m*money - working for M*McDonalds.

[ In Reply To ..]
M*Mmmmmmm... love those fries.

making a plan - does not involve MTSOs

[ In Reply To ..]
and you can just go on over to the main board and read the post by the woman who appears suicidal because she can't get hired by one of those other MTSOs of which you speak.

I'm not even looking in the healthcare industry anymore. - Its become as bad as the bankster industry.

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know what exactly, yet, but right now dog-walking is a more stable industry than healthcare. I think it, and the insurance industry, might just implode. It's a house of cards.

Im still here - because

[ In Reply To ..]
I have good line rates, have no problem making my line counts and I always have plenty of work; I never run out and yes I make at least 32,000 per year easily.

Im not one of the ones who complains, but I am interested in reading the replies you get.

And I still believe in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. - :p

I am going to school. - mom2huskies

[ In Reply To ..]
I also worked with Mmodal back when it was MRC. I also have changed companies only to end up back where I started. Now I am going back to school to get out of transcription completely.

ex-MRC here also! - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I loved MRC, jumped ship when it was gobbled up, then Spheris was gobbled up, then Wmx was gobbled up...sigh.

Me three! Ex-MRC Group - Was Medifax and Secrephone.

[ In Reply To ..]
Should have gone back to school then. I could kick myself for it!
Loved MRC - worked in KC
[ In Reply To ..]
Great company!

Perfect job while attending school. - Getting out.

[ In Reply To ..]
This company has made it perfectly clear this is not a professional job, but a sweat job.

I am attending school full time and with help of student loans and this job, I am making it and soon will be done with this so called sweat job for the last 25 years. :)

See the other poster above's post....she hit the nail on the head.... - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
A lot of people are NOT happy with the changes to the company but this company gobbles up other companies and they know we know if we go to another one we will just end up back here.

All the companies are basically the same....and that is not good. The ones that complain the most are the ones who remember (like me) the good old days when MTs were treated fairly and paid what they are worth. The newer MTs coming in have no idea. It's hard to go from 52K to 32k and be happy. If you start out with low expectations 32K sounds good.

I always worked for a hospital and made in the 40s - per year. Was outsourced to

[ In Reply To ..]
MM and although my income has dropped somewhat, I still make a reasonable living (upper 30s)in comparison to a lot of other jobs out there.

It is very much doable, it depends on the person and the accounts you work on. I have been doing this close to 14yrs and never made 52 thousand a year; but again, I had always worked for the same hospital before MM. So I really would not know what it was like to work for a company 20 years ago.

I figure as long as I can stay in the upper to mid 30s per year then I am making the average living wage for a middle-class citizen. Being married and having two incomes also helps. To each their own, but it works for me.

i WISH i made $32K! Used to make $48K in about - 2001. And what about this year? (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
likely somewhere in the neighborhood of $17K. working 6 days a week instead of 5. $48K to $17K is a long, long way to fall. Especially when you're even more experienced than you were in 2001, work longer hours, have more accounts, and less user-friendly software.

Something is very, very wrong with this picture.

I'm going to make 32 this year - but not happy about it

[ In Reply To ..]
it's 3000 more than last year, but to me that's just not a lot of money, after taxes and everything else is taken out. I used to make in the 50K range. I'd be happy today with 40. Imagine how Amy must laugh at our pay. "How can anyone live on that?" and she said she believes in doing the right thing. Apparently not the right thing for US, but for herself and the stockholders.

I am only here because this job - is for spending money.

[ In Reply To ..]
Because of the stress of this job and lost wages, I volunteered at the local hospital. Soon they gave me a job for 18.00 an hour and I LOVE MY JOB with benefits and everyone is so nice.

I only stay because this job is great for having extra change in my pocket. Cannot make this job as a career anymore.

I strongly believe and so do my new coworkers at the hospital that the reason why most of us stay is because it is like being in an abusive relationship with your job. Some of the reasons maybe due to fear, isolation, family pressures, feeling not worthy, denial, financial of not knowing where to go because of fear MModal will buy new company, etc.

Some of us are still here because although we apply - to everything, we"re hired for nothing.

[ In Reply To ..]

yes, I am still here - I am stuck, a loser, a big fat loser

[ In Reply To ..]
I have been home for 16 years, and doing this for 18 years. I have no other skills. I look hideous and cant possibly find a job with no skills and my widening frame, which is getting bigger each day that I have to sit an hour longer to make ends meet. I am completely stuck and miserable and cant find my way out.

I bet MModal and the clients are so proud and happy to have such wonderful MTs!

Please take care of yourself.....some suggestions. - anon

I was pretty much feeling the same way, but I finally decided I had to start putting an effort into myself. I've always known how to lose weight, having lost 80 pounds at the age or 21 and keeping it off for 10 years, then got married, kids, and it all came back plus more, and of course this job in the past 10 years didn't help any. I have now again lost 80 pounds with another 60 still to go, and I feel so much better about myself and have so much more energy.

My favorite diet of all time (and I have done them all) is the 17-day diet. If you follow that diet for the full 4 cycles of 17 days, you are bound to lose at least 30 pounds. The last cycle is a maintenance cycle which is a perfect plan for living in this world, eating healthy, and enjoying those extra treats you need on occasion. If you have more than 30 pounds to lose, you just repeat cycles 1, 2, and 3 until you are ready for maintenance.

Then get out walking. I do 3 miles a day on the treadmill and it really feels great to be moving again.

Don't sit there feelng miserable. I promise this job is much more enjoyable when you have your health back on track and the energy to enjoy life when you are not sitting here working.

It is also nice to feel good enough about myself that if I decided to go look for a job outside the home, that I could do that with confidence.

and not planning on going anywhere else anytime soon. When I finished my MT course I applied to several companies and MedQuist was actually hiring MTs, hiring newbies no less, and they offered me a job. I was hesitant to work for them for the same reasons you are, but I took the job anyhow and have never looked back. I have a great boss, a great quality improvement specialist to call with any questions, and the income has been great for our family. It certainly isn't very high, but it was just what we needed, and my line count keeps improving. I guess it depends on what exactly you are looking for, but for me this was it.

The frustration comes in knowing that we made - so much more money before...

[ In Reply To ..]
But, when I truly stop and think about it, to be making $45,000 to $50,000 a year after being out of the job market for 20 years, and not having a college education, I have to be pretty darn pleased with that, and since I don't think any other company would pay me any better than what I get here, I'm just determined to make this work.

Wow. You are making 45,000 to 50,000 - what is your strategy

Work every moment allowable..... - OP
[ In Reply To ..]
ALWAYS take advantage of OT, and since I'm in the North Region, there is generally always OT. I literally work every minute I am allowed to that I am available. I don't have a life, but my kids still have the only house they have ever lived in and clothes on their backs. We will soon be downsizing so I can have a better balance in my life now that I only have 1 left at home. I'm in such a habit of always working, I just hope I can break out of that when I no longer need to. I do actually take time to clean house, do laundry, run errands, mow the lawn, fix meals, and most importantly exercise. I've lost 80 pounds this year so I am doing something besides working. :)
Working every possible moment isn't much of a life. - For robots, maybe, but not for human beings.

[ In Reply To ..]
the OP is making a lot of money. She has made a choice to work a great deal. If she DIDN'T tell us how she did it, she'd be accused of lying. Working incessantly isn't an enjoyable lifestyle, I am sure, but is IS, dear poster, a STRATEGY for making money.
NO joke - ever figure out your hourly wage nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
My PTO rate is almost triple minimum wage - OP
[ In Reply To ..]
so I guess I'm doing alright hourly.
somehow I knew you'd say that - even as I pushed the submit button
[ In Reply To ..]
But I'm making $15 so I'm not complaining. No OT for me.
That is awesome.... - OP
[ In Reply To ..]
I would be perfectly happy with 15 also if I wasn't the major breadwinner, and would be happy to not work OT either. I'm glad you are doing that well, seriously. Most people who post here talk about minimum wage and I just don't understand how it is not possible for them to do more, so I'm glad to hear there are some that are at least making a decent hourly rate. Hopefully when I get this house sold, I can join you in a decent respectable wage with a happy balance to my life. :)
Not the other poster, but I work anywhere from 45 to 48 - hours a wk too. I average about
[ In Reply To ..]
$14 to $15 an hour, but I know I can do better (I have my lazy, dont wanna work days).

At any rate, I would rather work an extra 8 to 10hrs from home to bring in the money that I need than to have to get up and get dressed and go into an office everyday or stand on my feet for an 8hr shift.
Exactly :) - OP
[ In Reply To ..]
Totally with you on that one. I never asked anyone to do what I do. I posted what I make, and got jumped on as if it wasn't true, when I explain how I do it I get ridiculed. My life is just that, my life, and if I am willing to do what I need to do then that is totally my perogative. I don't preach it as a way of life for everyone. I do think that a regular hourly rate of $15 an hour is completely doable, and while it is not what we all used to make, it is a completely respectable hourly wage. Do I wish the industry would get back to where it was? Most certainly, but that isn't going to happen so we need to find a way to make it work for us, or go somewhere else.
the ones who make minimum wage - here is why
[ In Reply To ..]
it is because 4 cents per line x 1200 lines equals less than minimum wage for their state. They COULD do more than 1200, but on moral grounds, they do not, and I understand and respect that.
I don't find it moral to compromise your own destiny - and then complain about it, NM.
[ In Reply To ..]

I gotta agree with "NM" - This is a production based - job why would anyone want to only do
[ In Reply To ..]
the bare minimum? I guess I just dont get that.
When you have children and a house.... - OP
[ In Reply To ..]
you do what you have to do. At least I do. I'm not going to let my children's lives be torn apart because I don't have what it takes to put my life aside while I raise them. There will be plenty of life for me later...almost there...

Can I ask, are you an MT or MME and what tier are you? I understand working hard to do what you need to, but I was curious as to what kinds of work you're getting to do so well annually. Thanks!

Since I am new, I didn't make more before. - Gray

So coming from making practically nothing after being a SAHM for many years, without a college degree and just having taken an online course, it is actually quite good, but I can see how if you had been doing it for a while, making a lot more and then started making less and less, I would be pretty upset too.

If You Don't Like Complaining Posts On This Board, Don't Read Them.
Jan 23, 2012

An MT posting a complaint on this board is one of the reasons it is here!!!  If you don't like them, move on.  You do not have to read them, and you certainly do not have to respond. While I do not agree with personal attacks on a board or anywhere else on individuals, complaining about pay, workload, or company practices should not be considered complaining, but very useful information, maybe not to all, but probably to some. You work for a company who does not pay?  Name ...

To The Leads Complaining About MTs

Did you post here to stir up trouble?  Are you bored?  You certainly knew this criticism would stir up nasty posts.  Seems to me you are displaying the very attitude that MTs complain about with QA.  Quite a power trip you are on there.  This also caused very low morale and worth ethics.  MTs would rather send an error to the client than a blank to QA.  How sad.  Yes, there are slacker MTs.  We all know that, just as there are people in QA positions w ...
