A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
This is probably the last time I'll post on this forum--finally moved on from the Q this last week and start with another company Monday. The relief I felt leaving MQ was palpable.
Our profession is doomed. And I say that not to be a frowny Fannie, but because it's a fact staring us all in the face.
The problems with the Q , although vexing, are not what we have to worry about. Well, we do, but what is going to phase us all out is the electronic medical record, EMR. Last I heard, nationwide health care facilities have until 2014 to switch from paper charts to EMR.
In this little bitty town I live in, my doctor's office completed the process a couple of years ago. When I saw a specialist from Tucson, he sat right down to the computer when he walked in the door and entered various data after the exam, etc., (although truth to tell, the office "girls" had most everything set up on the computer before he even came in.)
I happened to see what was in my chart on a subsequent visit. The H&P was a nicely printed document that came straight from a computer; the echo report and stress test documents were likewise not transcribed by an MT.
So that's what's gonna do us in, in the long run. I've watched along with everyone as our career choice has been denigrated and underappreciated. We can still take pride, right to the bitter end, but when I think how it was even 10 years ago, I want to cry.
Sorry I've rambled on so. Thanks for listening/reading. And as mentioned above, i'm not trying to paint a doomsday picture--just the facts. 10-4, over and out.
