just above any profession but this one looks good. Back-to-back ESL who gets on late at night, dictates report after report after report, marks them all priority even though they may be for admissions/discharges from 2-3 months ago. He's horrible to listen. Talks so softly sometimes he can barely be heard. Flies through lab results, etc. And, I think I'm the primary transcriptionist on this account. I have literally begged to have this account taken away, but I'm just told sorry, no can do. Anyway, enough of my vent for the day 'cause probably nobody cares anyway. I know the company I work for doesn't.

Sorry you are having to deal with that. I don't think you are getting those dictations by accident. I remember before I left the company, the dictations were getting worse and worse, until finally the bad ones were back to back all day every day. I have been a transcriptionist 16 years and never encountered this until the last year. No one can tell me it is just "random" anymore. I cried some days. I feel for you!

the point of calling and telling them they can have this job. I can flip burgers if I have to. There is no job worth the frustration that I feel right now.

When I was that unhappy, I made the decision to leave MT'ing. I also had the issue of tendinitis and repetitive stress problems too, so I was basically forced out. Although we are struggling without that income, I am more at peace. Good luck to you.

Hi, I am so sorry you are going through this. Sadly, many of us are in the same boat. I am dragging my feet but have reached the conclusion that in the near future I have to make some tough choices and find a new career. It will be hard and expensive, BUT only I control my destiny. If I am smart enough to do this job, I KNOW there are other jobs where I will succeed.

so cry for today, tomorrow, next week. Then do like Scarlet O'Hara - tomorrow is another day! Pick yourself up, dust off your resume, investigate schools, other careers and get yourself in a better situation. It'll take time and won't be easy but it'll be worth it in the long run.

I am right there with you. What I think is hard for many of us is we really love(d) our profession. But, it is time to move on. Good luck Wannie!

I had been out of the MTSO loop for a little while, and being an MT has changed since I've been gone. If health-care facilities disallowed patient information from being transcribed off-site, MTSO/IC's would not exist. All MT's would be on-site, hourly employees, transcribing only one account. If there were a law passed mandating all patient information be transcribed onsite, I wonder if this would be the best remedy or, possibly, the only remedy for this slippery slope.

Hey Wannie, where did you end up anyway? I'm thinking it was Transcend but I could be wrong. If you don't feel comfortable announcing it on the board, that's cool, I understand. You have my total sympathy. I once had a day like this at an in-house job and I, too, had been a transcriptionist for greater than 15 years. One of the supervisors asked me why I was on the verge of crying and I told her it had been one disastrous dictator after another and my head hurt so bad I thought it would explode. She checked into it, and it turned out the other supervisor had ASSIGNED me all of the worst jobs so she herself wouldn't get them. Needless to say, that never happened again, but I know precisely how you feel. Anyway, if you don't want to divulge where you're at now, I understand. I just want to make sure I avoid them like the hot mess they apparently are!

every other report is tragic? Tonight I just want to quit, so depressing. I hate doing child death reports, alcohol-involved MVAs where someone dies, drug overdoses where the person dies, attempted suicide, severe brain damage/paralysis from fall, all in one shift, all young people!! It seems that every dictator tonight has made some sort of mistake or said something that doesn't seem right (mg/mcg, right/left, dates, names, age, etc.) that required extra research through past reports (if your lucky they have some) to get correct information? Or where the residents make you want to beat your head against the wall because they cannot pronounce half the stuff their field exposes them to? Today I had a 35 minute report by one of the worst dictators. On top of that her phone line is really bad. I did the best I could and ended up sending the report to QA. QA was able to fill in about half of the blanks that I had. I ended up sending an e-mail to my supe to see if anything could be done about her phone line, and if she could please listen to the report. For some unknown reason my footpedal just decides to stop working this morning and I spend hours to get it going again. I finally get back into my groove, only to get a dictation that is 29 minutes long with only 4 minutes of actual dictating! I can never get ahead and get a decent line count anymore. You actually looked forward to getting the PA instead of the doctor because they were so much easier to hear, understand, etc., except for the fact that most of them have no clue when it comes to pronouncing medications and feel that it is above them to spell the medication out.
