Been gone 4 mos and got the message today that - they want their equipment

Posted: Sep 06, 2012

back.  Kind of a pain.

Shoot, I have been gone for three years and.... - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
their equipment is still sitting in my basement. So much for HIPAA.

Did they send you a letter.... - by regular snail mail? (s/m)

[ In Reply To ..]
They told me they would contact me separately if I had any equipment they needed returned, but I never got any other letter, so I assumed I don't have any of their stuff. My rather-old CPU was from a previous company, so I doubt if they want to pay to have it sent back since they'll probably just have to store it somewhere. Just curious about how they would contact us....snail mail, e-mail, phone call? Thanks!

Left a message on my answering - machine.

I was really hoping they didn't want it back. It was several years old. I never even opened the monitor, though. I was using my own wide flat screen when they sent the last computer/monitor. I didn't bother with their monitor, so they at least get a new monitor back. I also put a memory stick in the computer to speed it up. Will be sure and take that out. Not giving them anything more than I have to :(

Equipment - return...

[ In Reply To ..]
Are they sending you the packing material and a shipping label? Wouldn't send it until I got those.
That is what the message was for - - asking if I needed
[ In Reply To ..]
them. Uh -- yeah, duh.
Not being rude to you, but to M-Modal. - Like I am going to pay
[ In Reply To ..]
to return their stuff?????????

They usually don't ask for the monitor back anyway - Keep it - nm

or else what...Will they come pounding on your - L&L

[ In Reply To ..]
in the middle of the night with a swat team to get it?

Before I send mine back, I'm going to take one of those very strong magnets to it. HIPAA my butt!!!

I did kind of wonder what WOULD happen if - a person never sent it

[ In Reply To ..]
back. Would they sue you for it????? A used computer couldn't be worth more than $100 if that?

I am sure they would sue - and for more than 100.00

[ In Reply To ..]
Not to mention the HIPAA violations involved in keeping their computer with patient data on it. Would not want to fight that battle.
Is patient data on the actual hard drive? - (see message)
[ In Reply To ..]
I've never understood quite how this works, and I always thought the protected patient information is just kind of "out there" in space or passing through the wires of the internet (Haha)....or however you'd imagine it. I realize how dumb that sounds! :-D Do our hard drives capture and contain all the patient info we type on the reports?

I also thought they could potentially turn you over to a collection agency if you don't return the equipment when requested....no matter how insignificant the value of the equipment. If they asked and sent me the paid return label, I'd be more than happy to return anything that belonged to them.
Yeah I think that is best. - Will call and get the label

Thanks.
I had 2 company computers replaced - s/m - mt
[ In Reply To ..]
This was back a few years when the company I worked for supplied them. Each time I would say, do you want me to return the broke one? Their answer - No, just throw it out. Ok by me.

I also received a "new" one which stunk like stale cig smoke so bad I had to leave it outside for a day. It was full of previous person's personal info, emails, pictures, etc. Obviously she did not clean it out. She also left her resignation letter in it. LOL
I wonder how many computers they get back from India - NCMT - nm

in the basement, literally

you now have earned income - 1099

[ In Reply To ..]
What will they do? Send a form 1099 to the govt because you have gained from the cost of the equipment. I can't remember the $ but it is in the thousands.

That's ridiculous! - But I beleive it though! nm

charge them a "storage fee" - bbb

[ In Reply To ..]
I've been gone 10 months and their crap equipment sits in my garage. Electronic recycle day is in 2 weeks and that's where it's going.

Judge Judy would say they abandoned it and you can do what - you will with it. nm

Just A Message To MTs.
Dec 01, 2009

I'm just wondering when was the last time any of us took a moment and researched outside of this forum to get a better idea of what is happening with the MT industry?  Someone had asked last week for a listing of the largest? MTSOs.  I posted regarding the KLAS MTSO study June 2008, but I wonder just how many MTs actually read it and absorbed the information that was made available to them within the free study. There's all the commotion about  ...

Did anyone else get the message from Massanotti?  What do you think?  Also, I went to medquist.com and was struck by the fact that they are marketing front-end dictation systems with SpeechQ, thereby eliminating transcriptionists altogether!  I am not surprised, any way to get us out of the picture will make them more money.  It just seems odd that they would tell us on one hand that they value us and then on the other try to get rid of us altogether.... ...
