Does anyone know where I can get a keyboard where the letters won't wear off and has to be USB.
Good Keyboard - WestCoast MT

Yes! I had the same problem; was buying a new keyboard every two months. I bit the bullet and got an Advantage Kinesis. Love, Love, Love it! Well worth the money. Easy to get used to and takes stress off my hands/wrists. Once you get used to it, you'll find you can type even faster. I sure did!

Happened to mine too, but I figure who needs letters anyway?
You can buy stick-on replacement letters - - just Google for them.

My Dell keyboard letters never wear off, but my Belkin ones wear off really fast. The hospital I work for orders the stick-ons for us because we have Belkin keyboards. MQ sent me an HP keyboard that didn't work, so I use my own Dell.
Microsoft has discontinued these great keyboards and I need a new one. Anybody aware of a split keyboard that has a really nice touch (remember those old IBM keyboards?) for transcription work by Microsoft or another brand that you really like? I'm open for suggestions please ; 0 My only complaint with this one is the keys are a bit clunky to press down (especially the space bar).
Thanks! ...
Regarding pay, work conditions, etc., the only clear out of bounds complaints we have are
1) Unpaid work. The concept that we can do this 'on the clock' is a double whammy. You end up getting paid LESS than if you did it on your own time. I've clocked alll this unpaid work very conservatively. It is 48-52 hours annually. Fair wage and labor standards in your state deals with that or you can form a strong coalition of MTs and find an employment attorney. The one I consulte ...
If you are transcribing a dictated letter from one physician to another in regards to a pt, wouldnt the date at the top of the letter be the date that you typed the letter? It doesnt seem that it would be the date of service or is this a preference thing of a physican or transcription company which date you put up there? ...
or sometimes even within the state don't bother to spell the doctor's name? There are a million doctors on the account hospital list, and if it's anything unusual (most of the time), I go crazy trying to sound it out and looking for it. :p Of course, if the doctor is out of state, 99% of the time it's not even listed. I hate doing correspondence. Was doing all operative reports before this for many years and liked that much better. ...
I generally introduce myself with my name, state how long I have been a MT and just a very short overview of my experience, as well as position I am seeking, IC, for instance. My cover letter is only 5 lines. Is this the norm for everyone else? When I first typed my cover letter I did some research and it stated to make the letter as short as possible and to highlight your "strong" points.
Just curious ... thanks for any opinions, advice, etc. ...
I have a dr. who consistently says all capital letters for that. I always thought it was just scarf because it had to do with the type of incision. ...
Usually I apply a coat of clear nail polish to the keys, but this time I forgot, and just since December I have already worn most the letters off my keyboard. Spent most of the day on line trying to find another KB like the one I have.
Do any of you guys go through KBs like water???? ...
If a letter is dictated by one person on behalf of another (the "another" is the one signing the letter), what do I put for the initials at the end of the letter? ...
I applied for a job with a company and was hired. The start pay is just okay, but increases as your line count increases and I think this is a good way for me to get my foot in the door and experience with working with other types of transcription and jobs. It is straight typing and involves insurance and legal matters and forms. If anyone wants to know more about it, I will be happy to let you know. I start in April. ...
Numerous cc's not in the database which have to be added, address and all. Short reports, of course, that take 3x longer than the dictation time. Just shoot me now.
I can't wait until I get a new job! Came close today - job lead was 1/2 day too late. :-( Hopefully the other person won't work out :-} ...
Or is it even feasable right now to look for new clients? Any advice appreciated.
Also, what's with this site?? Every time I try to post a message, I have to put in my info several times. ...

If so (or otherwise) anyone using the Dvorak key layout? Actually I was just trying to search for fast keyboards (as it seems like my keyboard is slow to react), and came across info on this. Aside from the initial question, any tips on a regular keyboard with fast reaction and highlighting ability appreciated as well. (I prefer an uncurved keyboard that isn't real large though.) Thanks for any info you can give me! ...
Hi! Wondering what keyboards everyone uses. I currently have the logitech wave but think it is suffering a slow death and will be needing to purchase a new one soon. Any recommendations?
Thanks! ...
I am going to be looking for a new keyboard. I see most of you seem to like the split keyboard. When I tried that at one time I couldn't get used to the 6 being on the wrong side of the keyboard (I use my right hand for it), for one thing. Is this something you just get used to or do you all not have that problem to begin with? Does anyone have an ergonomic keyboard that is not split that they like? ...
Please someone help. Sometimes when I am typing my keyboard will just start typing wrong letters and/or numbers. I have tried the num lock to no avail. This only ever happens when I am typing on a platform. Does anyone know a solution?
As always, thanks for any input! ...
Need a new keyboard and was wondering if any of you out there use a gaming keyboard for working as an MT? If so, do you think they are better? Which one would you recommend? Thanks for your input. ...
Thinking about taking the plunge and investing in a DAS tactile keyboard. It's a bigger investment than I've ever made in a keyboard.
Does anyone here use a DAS keyboard or have used one? If so, any feedback about it would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!!! ...
Hello all, I am in need of a new keyboard. I am using a Goldtouch now but the keyboard configuration does not really work for me, specifically the cntl, alt, and windows keys, as well as the home key. I hit the wrong keys frequently, too much, and it hurts my production. I do like the "touch" of it though. I would like something that feels the same, a little bit spongy but not sticky. Any suggestions. TIA. ...
Hello,
I am using a Microsoft split keyboard that is just about worn out and would like to know what most of you are using now. After using a split keyboard I do not think I could go back to a regular keyboard. Also, I keep the keyboard slanted to the left slightly which is more comfortable for me, probably because I am left-handed, but it does make to getting to some of the keys on my right hand a little difficult.
Anyhow, just curious to see what most of you are using now.
Thanks. ...
I have a REALLY old, loud COMPAQ keyboard. I am going to buy a new one soon. What are the best kinds for transcription? With mine, you really have to punch down on the keys, and I know that a lot of the newer ones are much easier to press. Any ideas? ...
Is anyone else having problems with their keyboard not working properly and sticking when in DocQScribe? I changed the batteries in my keyboard but that didn't help. This is an on and off problem in the past few days and I can't figure out if it's my keyboard, my computer, or DocQScribe. ...
Hi all,
Hoping this is on the "write" board. I'm looking for a keyboard for my Dell desktop that's quieter...like a laptop keyboard is.
Any suggestions of model, where I can look, etc.? Personal experience with one is preferred...
Thanks!!

For those of you who are experienced with VR, do you use the footpedal to control the audio or the keyboard. I am new to this. I am used to using the footpedal but have heard from a couple of others that using the keyboard to control audio seems to be faster for them.
I would like some opinions please. Also, maybe you could tell me how long your learning curve was. How long did it take to get your speed up to the point that you were making what you could make trans ...
