Best Keyboard ??? - Melanie

Need a new keyboard and was wondering if any of you out there use a gaming keyboard for working as an MT? If so, do you think they are better? Which one would you recommend? Thanks for your input.

Just like a normal keyboard. Durability and performance is the difference! I hope you like it.

SafeType - Gray

I use a SafeType vertical keyboard and have for 8 years. I absolutely love the vertical setup, no wrist pain. I also have a touch mouse that you just slide your fingers on propped up vertically to avoid mousing pain - works like a charm. The whole setup also works well for standing while working.

As an added benefit, my husband has been improving his touch typing skills, and my kids learned to type on it and are all very proficient typists now.

I don't know about gaming keyboards, but thought I would share about SafeType because not a lot of people have heard of it and it has been so great for me, although I did have to use a free program to change some of the keys for ease with keyboard shortcuts, but that has worked out just fine.

How you edit on that thing is beyond me - or even type for that matter

I have to constantly use the arrows, so I dont see how that would work...

I used key tweak and changed the windows keys to arrows - Gray

I never used the windows keys anyhow. I do also occasionally use the arrows in the center because I changed them to home and end, but I don't use them very often, but when I do, it is pretty quick and easy. I can switch back to a regular keyboard if I need to, but I don't like it as much. I adapted to the vertical keyboard very quickly because it feels so much better. If you hold your hands out in front of you facing each other, the way you would use a vertical keyboard, and then turn them down to the regular keyboard position, you can feel the difference in your wrists and forearms.

I love my vertical keyboard. Left side of space bar is backspace and - I made F1 the comma. nm

My original SafeType did not have the left space bar as backspace, but the one I got for my work computer does. I really like it that way.

So I can mouse with right hand, backspace and/or add commas with the - right. Seems that is what I do most. nm

Microsoft has discontinued these great keyboards and I need a new one. I am going to be looking for a new keyboard. I see most of you seem to like the split keyboard. When I tried that at one time I couldn't get used to the 6 being on the wrong side of the keyboard (I use my right hand for it), for one thing. Please someone help. Sometimes when I am typing my keyboard will just start typing wrong letters and/or numbers. I have tried the num lock to no avail. This only ever happens when I am typing on a platform. Does anyone know a solution? As always, thanks for any input! ...

Hello all, I am in need of a new keyboard. I am using a Goldtouch now but the keyboard configuration does not really work for me, specifically the cntl, alt, and windows keys, as well as the home key. I hit the wrong keys frequently, too much, and it hurts my production. I do like the "touch" of it though. I would like something that feels the same, a little bit spongy but not sticky. Hello, I am using a Microsoft split keyboard that is just about worn out and would like to know what most of you are using now. After using a split keyboard I do not think I could go back to a regular keyboard. Also, I keep the keyboard slanted to the left slightly which is more comfortable for me, probably because I am left-handed, but it does make to getting to some of the keys on my right hand a little difficult. I'm trying to stockpile a 2-year supply (wishful thinking?) of Memorex TS1100 keyboards. I don't think they are being made any more, so I find them on eBay. I use them untill all the print is off the letter keys, all the plastic is gone from several of the letters leaving the metal exposed, there is a piece missing on the space bar where my right thumb goes, and then I dump them. The cheapo one I am using is really noisy and hard on my fingers. I have to pound the keys. Finally sucked it up and bought a Kinesis Advantage keyboard. Wanted one for at least 10 years, but couldn't justify the cost, but after typing off my laptop for a few months and quickly developing tennis elbow, it was time to make the switch. I type many hours a day several days a week and usually use the old clicky keyboards but thought I'd give this one a try. Don't waste your money. It's smaller than a standard keyboard with big letters on the keys and it's so light it moves constantly. You nearly need to velcro it down. The touch is hard, makes your hands very tired and the backspace is in an odd position to you constantly hit the wrong key or have to stretch your pinky out a couple of inches ...
