Workload across all MTSO companies - D

Posted: Sep 08, 2011

I've noticed in reading posts lately a LOT of companies are majorly low on work.  I'm looking to make contact with those MTs/SRs who are having issues keeping a steady flow of work from their current company or having issues with finding and keeping positions in MTSOs due to low workloads and lack of communication from the employers/MTSOs.

It appears that the government is subsidizing the MDs to utilize the EMR/EHR programs on IPads, which will essentially allow them to do not only their MT work directly on the IPad as they see each patient but also their coding, billing, etc.

http://govhealthit.com/news/providers-now-have-option-use-certified-ipad-ehr

This is affecting us all and I'd like to know if the government intends on subdizing any of us for loss wages, work, jobs, etc (SARCASM PEOPLE).  I think the only way to do something about this is stand as a united force of MT/SRs.  Email me at eveofdusk@gmail.com if you're experiencing these problems and let me know your story.

Come on, D. You're kidding, right? - This is a capitalist society,

[ In Reply To ..]
not a socialist one. The freedom we're so proud of includes the freedom to take care of ourselves and the freedom to fail. You'll make far more money just going back to work for the afternoon than you'll ever see in government reimbursement. Now, there used to be a lot of programs at various government levels to retrain people out of work, but funding, of course, has disappeared for most of them these days. Cut taxes, cut programs.

BTW, I'm taking a course right now as a prerequisite to several others I want and hope someday to "reimburse" myself for the expense. Back to work for a while, then back to studying.

not sure - D

[ In Reply To ..]
How Capitalism and Socialism pertain to the articles circulating or the concerns of people being out of work I have no clue. If the work isn't there when we work is a moot point as well. If you have ample work hold on to it and pray your accounts don't start dropping off in the next year like others are doing.

It's called - welfare. Enjoy!

us anything. Americans have always made their own way through hard work and determination...not a handout. Handouts ruin people and nations. Take a wild animal who forages for himself...put him in captivity and feed him and it won't be long until he cannot feed himself.

then what the heck is obamacare about? - no handouts???

[ In Reply To ..]
If Americans have ALWAYS made their own way, why do we have Obama offering FREE HEALTH CARE? Sounds like a flippin hand out to me.

no handouts? - Anna

[ In Reply To ..]
Sounds like socialism to me. No thanks, I'll pass.

who said it was free????????? - obama-lovin MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I have a policy through the new healthcare program and I pay for it. It's not free. Don't be so quick to just start crap.

If I had a magic wand,I'd wish all the "I'm gonna make the government pay for my career choice" posters be floated to an island and left there, w/o WIFI
Goodness, nothing's free. How could medical care be? - It will be better, and especially guaranteed; for
[ In Reply To ..]
some it'll even been cheaper. Sadly, your employer will still fire you if you start running up medical costs (and insurance companies will still slip them the word that it's happening). I prayed for a system that would divorce health care from insurance companies and from employers, but that hasn't happened yet.

Our DIL's Danish, so in a major life-threatening catastrophe her national health insurance would extend to her family, but that'd require moving to Denmark. Immoral, too, to suck off a system we did not pay into, but a genuine lifeline, nevertheless, if we were suddenly to find ourselves among the 50,000 people who will die here this year for lack of health insurance coverage and lack of government and charitable assistance.

Note I didn't say for lack of insurance because some of those unfortunate people will have insurance but be refused care anyway. After all, companies make their money by charging as much as possible and paying out as little as possible.

Did you even read the article? No one said anything about a handout. The subsidies are for th DOCTORS to utilize a product that IS affecting our workloads already. Why do you people respond to posts without reading in its entirety. This is why I don't feed trolls.

I did read it and have been following this issue (sm) - pearl

for a couple of years. Government/Medicare/Medicaid is forcing the doctors to switch over to electronic medical records no matter how they do it...bribery, etc. If the doctors refuse they will not be compensated for their Medicare/Medicaid patients. The doctors really don't have a choice. This is OUR government FORCING the people into doing what THEY say. Looks like the USA is heading towards communism and leaving democracy behind.
Sorry Pearl - D
[ In Reply To ..]
My reply wasn't actually to you but to others making very odd replies that do not even pertain to the discussion at hand, implying that MTs are asking for a handout.

In fact, that's not my intention of the post, I'd like to get a consensus on how many are actually HAVING this problem already and monitor the trend. Also, with documented information, and people's stories approaching a congressman might be the only way to remedy this situation.

I don't think our government realizes while trying to streamline an industry they're looking at more jobs lost, not an increase in the economy but another hit to it.

I find it utterly ridiculous what's going on with our government right now, and it has NOTHING to do with current leaders or parties, it has to do with Congress and the lawmakers and the fact they're spending way too much time sitting on their duffs trying to find a way to put the screws to the average Joe and line their pockets.

Limit Congress/House terms to 2 and make lobbyists illegal is the only way to fix this crap.

That said, if you have REAL issues you're seeing, I'd like to hear from your perspective that's all, no need for the other people trolling. (in general, not directed at you Pearl)
Totally agree with you about the - Lobbyists!! n/m

Better than limiting government offices to (sm) - pearl
[ In Reply To ..]
2 terms - I think ALL government offices should be VOLUNTARY. A service to your country.
I also think - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
There should be an across-the-board limit on campaign spending. All candidates get X $ and That's It! No supplement donations. No $35K plate dinners, etc. Let's see who's the best then, eh?
I'd also like to see them All take a pay cut, but since they get to "vote" on it, that's never going to happen. Since they work for us and we pay their salaries, we should vote on what they get!
My husband and I talked about that yesterday - hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
The biggest problem with Washington today, and that includes the President, the Senate, and the House, on BOTH sides of the aisle, is that they are not representative of us.

I tried to find a complete list of net worth for all 535 members of Congress, but so far only found a list of the 50 richest. Still, the guy coming in at #50 is worth $6.2 million.

There's been a lot of comment here about how we need to tax the rich and make them share more of the burden. We forget that we are represented in government by the rich - people who know far less about making it to the next paycheck or struggling to stay in their house.

Why can't campaigns be funded from a pool of money collected by the respective parties, but each candidate is only given an equal allotment? That way, the "little guy" would have a chance to serve and would be far less likely to be out of touch with the people or at the mercy of the lobbyists. Campaigns would have to stand on the basis of the ideas presented, not the number of times your commercial ran on TV.

As the previous poster said, it will never happen because the ones who would need to change it would never give up that kind of power.

Good luck foraging. - notananimal

[ In Reply To ..]

[ In Reply To ..]
of foraging. If you're speaking of work. Actually no I'm not, I'm a Psych major who will be out of this industry grades willing in the next year and half but I'd like to leave the industry I devoted 20 years of my life to with some resemblance of dignity and all the recently trained MTs I'd like to see them actually HAVE work....

Again, I don't feed trolls, move along if you have nothing constructive to add.
Not a troll, and my post was serious. - Consider what she is saying
[ In Reply To ..]
She needs to think that through in light of what a civilized society should be doing, and that is taking care of its elderly, its poor, and those that cannot care for themselves. To think that we can turn back the clock to a time when families cared for their own (actually communities have always taken care of one another), is a ridiculous idea. All other major civilized countries also take care of their own. We should, too. It is the abuse that gives it a bad name, so let's get rid of the abuse and not the programs.
To Clarify - D
[ In Reply To ..]
I am the OP and what I was saying is making a change and not seeing the industry change so drastically as to do away with our jobs!!!! The comment made about subsidizing our income was sarcasm, sorry that doesn't translate to internet print. I don't do handouts, I'm working 2 full time jobs trying to make my measly $500 to 750 a pay period and going to school full time and not expecting a handout. Don't assume people.

We've all just sat back and let this happen frankly when we could have made a change 10 years ago when we started seeing the changes occur. The poster below this talked about getting a job, has anyone checked the job market lately and TRIED to get another job in certain areas of the country? It's nearly impossible. I've been sending out 50+ resumes a week and get "overqualified/underqualified" or "we need bilingual" every time.

Granted I'm in school and will have my Psych degree in a year and half and will be working towards my masters next fall in a combined BS/MS program; however, that doesn't help me pay the bills right now.

The point of the post was to say we should band together and do something and have our voices heard.

D

[ In Reply To ..]
No way. We have too many people feeding at the public trough already.

The subsidies are so that physicians will get - all of their records EMR

[ In Reply To ..]
for easily accessibility and from what I remember when it began, to keep down the alarmingly high rate of medical errors. Why would the government subsidize our wages? That is ridiculous. If you are an employee of a company then you would get unemployment if you lose your job or a good portion. If you are an IC, then that is a choice we make knowing that at anytime the job could go away with no benefit.

I mean really it is not like we have not known this is happening. I have know this for at least 10 years that eventually it was at the very least going to take a lot fewer MTs to do the work. There are no guarantees when you are an MT. You can be on an account, and the account just up and leave with no notice and be out of a job. It happens all of the time. Do you think other people such as anyone in the construction industry are getting subsidies since they have no work from the sinking economy?

The correct thing to do is if you think you may be eventually needing to find a job, look now. I did and now only do MT on the side.

Where there are jobs lost in the MT world, there are jobs opening in the business of EMR software companies. They are loads of them now.

See my above response - D

[ In Reply To ..]
Subsidies for MTs was a SARCASTIC comment. See my post above. Also see my response above concerning the fact that jobs are NOT that easy to come by right now, especially for a person with 20 years experience in ONE field, ONE genre. There are too many people out there looking for work, the market is saturated and it's absolutely ridiculous to find a job.

There are way too many people, and the - field is saturated, that

[ In Reply To ..]
is why I said look for a job now if you think you may eventually need one. Looked at your above post, and yes, I know exactly what it is like to find a job now. I have been working at my new job now for 6 months, and there were a lot of people that applied. I sent resumes to maybe 5 or 10 places and got interviews with 2. I never like to keep my eggs all in 1 basket. I pretty much for most of my MT career have kept something on the side that was not MT. I worked in doctor's office 9 years ago that had full EMR and knew then we were in big trouble. The system was great then, and they have even better ones now.

As far as sarcasm for your subsidies comment, there is no way that someone would have known that without you making some sort of gesture in your original post. It sounded pretty serious to me with your email attached for people to contact you.

take it to the politics board please. NM - yawners
