This might be a dumb question, but if you're - an IC, and you want to quit....

....working for an MTSO, is it typical to let them know you won't be working any more with a traditional 2-week notice? I'm thinking about doing some IC work for the first time (have always been an employee in the past), and I'm just wondering how that usually works if and when you decide you don't want to work for them any more.

So, if you're an IC, do you typically just let them know not to send you any more work when you want out? I have a feeling that as an IC, they'll either send you very little work or only the absolute worst jobs if you give them a "2-week notice." I'm trying to find out how this works if you start with an MTSO but soon find out there are more problems than it's worth. I'm hoping to find a permanent position outside the medical field altogether, eventually, and I was thinking of doing some IP work in the interim. TIA.

I recently got a full-time non-MT job, but still in the healthcare field. I am going to quit my full time MT job and go part-time with another company as IC. I found that to be better for me, as I am not bound to 24 hours a week and they are okay with me doing what works for me schedule wise. I told them in the door I could not handle 24 hours and they were okay with that.

But I would say give two weeks notice just like any place else.

sending you crappy work, just do the best you can and leave blanks for what you cant get and send them a note so they know to QA it before sending it to the client. That might put a stop to them sending crappy work if they know they will have to go over it and fill in blanks; but I doubt that will happen. Most places I would hope are more professional than that. Worse case scenario, call off sick - You would be in your final 2 weeks anyway so big deal.

I hardly doubt it would come to that though, as most places just want their work done and would appreciate the notice so they can find a replacement.

I've given 2 week notice before but I've been immediately locked out of the computer systems.

That's why I don't intend to give my lousy MTSO - even 5 minutes notice. nm

The way I see it - is if they

they lock you out or treat you badly because you gave notice, so be it...leave sooner. I think its best to give notice in case you ever need them again like for a part-time job or something. I personally just dont believe in burning bridges. If you give notice and they lock you out, take a two week vacation before starting your new job and maybe check into filing an unemployment claim, who knows they may have to pay unemployment to you for those two weeks, since you were kind enough to give notice and they put you out of work.

You are not their employee. You don't get unemployment if they let you go. Its a diff relatio - No notice. You are a contractor.

I will never give notice to someone who does not employ me. They have chosen the distance in our relationship. Fine, just don't ask me to treat them like an employer.
