I have seen so many posts on here asking the question of which companies provide computers and I wonder why people don't have their own computer and need one provided.
If it's a matter of "finances," there are many options available to get your own computer; rent to own, or even places like QVC or HSN. They offer payment plans and you can pay with either a credit card or a debit card. I recently got a VERY nice laptop from QVC and am making payments on it in the area of around $125 a month. I made the first payment and they shipped it out immediately. There are OTHER alternatives other than trying to find a job, where they provide the equipment, which in my opinion, may not be the best to begin with. Also, my laptop has Windows 8.1 on it; however, the 2 companies that I work for, allow that operating system and I have both Office 2003 and Office 2007 on this computer.
Again, just curious as to why people are limiting themselves in the job hunt by needing a computer provided by the company.

Likely because they do not want their home system to be slowed - down by all the server garbage.

[ In Reply To ..]Well, those kinds of payments do not last forever. I believe my schedule is for 6 months. With that purchase, I also got LIFETIME free technical support. As far as spyware and other garbage being loaded on my computer, the 2 companies that I work for, do not do that sort of thing. Also, with a company provided computer, you are extremely limited as to the use of the computer or what you might be able to put on it. Many years ago, I was provided a "computer" by Precyse, and it wasn't even a full computer. No CD drive or anything. Many companies also have it set up where you cannot use the "company computer" to look things up on the internet, so that can be a pain, having to have 2 computers going at the same time.
Just buy a rebuilt used one for work. That way - it wont matter if they mess it up.

[ In Reply To ..]I don't think wanting a computer provided has anything at all to do with price of computers (new or used) or someone's financial standing (or lack of), but rather a way of maintaining separate devices for work and personal. I appreciate the fact that I don't have to download work-related software, virus protection, etc., all the while allowing IT the ability to link into my personal computer anytime they "need" to do an upgrade, etc. Also, if there is a hardware failure, it is on the company to provide support/repair and/or replacement; that is a good thing. Yes, I could buy a separate computer to use for work, but why do that if I can secure a position with a company that provides their own equipment and will provide all support. I use a KVM switch with 1 monitor and that allows me to flip back and forth between my personal computer and the work device; that too is a good thing.

I'm able to look up information on the internet. It has all the programs I need and if anything happens with it, they can give me a new one. I have my personal computer for my personal stuff. That's the way it should be.

I took a job with DIT transcription. I know. My thinking was that I could get some experience to take elsewhere because they were the only company that would hire me, and most companies clearly state that you need "on the job experience."
