Super fast tricks! - anon

Posted: Dec 18, 2014

In reading another post trying to help someone, what if we started a post with our best tricks for being faster? What shortcuts do you use? What do you feel like saves you the most time? I think this would be great for newbies and seasoned MTs.

Well my latest favorite is when I have to look up... - sm

I make sure to put it in my expander in some form, so I never have to look it up again...this goes for doc names, hospitals, clinics, drug dosages, etc.

here's one - expander for

Sutures always slowed me down, so for all Vicryls, I say 4vic for 4-0 Vicryl. 4pro for 4-0 Prolene etc. I hate hyphens so I always make short cuts for them. Even though it only saves 1 key stroke, I miss the hyphen and hit 0 or delete, so I have to backspace. Anything I have to backspace for I try to make a short cut for.

great idea ---I hit =/0/- a variety, sometimes - - the first time

I have an issue with capitalizing the S on She. I use xx. Unfortunately, wherever, I type xx now it is xx --lol

My shorthand letters to people when I don't get to use expanders are baaaaddd.

I use a Microsoft Natural Ergo keyboard #4000. It has multiple keys that can be set for Web sites you frequent. It also has keys for volume control, but I have not tried those yet.

Been doing these so long I forgot they are "tricks." - SmileyChica

I use a single small letter j in my expander for tion and ization. So h spacebar is hospital but hj spacebar is hospitalization. Cath spacebar is catheter and cathj spacebar is catheterization.

I also need to full capitalize headings followed by a colon a lot on my accounts, and those begin with jj. So jjn is NECK: jjr is RESPIRATORY: jjp is PULMONARY:

Those are just a few.

ooohhh! Good one! - anon

Very good idea! I have some shortcuts for headings but they are clunky and I was trying to think of a different way. That makes so much more sense.

The tion one is great too, because I type toin ALOT. Then there I go with the backspace lol....

My other - trick is this.

First hour of work is a "power hour" every day. So, every day when I start, I work my hardest and fastest for the firs full 60 minutes. Then take a short break and do another 60 minutes as hard and fast as you can. You would be surprised at how much it adds up to do 2 hours and 5 minutes (5 minute break between) at full speed, total focus, do not waiver. Its a good base for your day.

Express Scribe Load Plays Super-fast
Jul 13, 2012

I recently downloaded the free version of Express Scribe.  The "Welcome" message plays with no problem, but any file that I try to load plays super-fast.  I am pretty sure I checked all the settings, such as F10 (normal play back speed) and the speed control in the bottom right hand corner.  If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it.  I did send an email to tech support but will probably never get an answer b/c I didn't purchase it. ...

New To VR - Need Some Tricks Of The Trade!
Apr 04, 2011

Been working with VR since last October.  After rebuilding shorthand file and adding words to autocorrect for the last 5 months, I feel those items are no longer a insignificant factor hampering my production.  Sadly, I'm finding I'm not as productive as I need to be in order to make a living. Anyone have any VR tricks to increase production?  I'm headed to the poor house if I don't get this figured out soon! Truly appreciate any help you can o ...

Anyone Have Any Tricks In DocQscribe To
Oct 01, 2011

prevent the P in p.r.n. from being capitalized when the enter key or space bar is pushed such as in medication lists? I don't get it, it does not capitalize the B in b.i.d. or the T in t.i.d., just the P in p.r.n. It used to take 2 spaces after a period before capitalizing letters, now it is only one space and very irritating. Thanx ...

Today Is The First Day ... Tips And Tricks For Quality?
Mar 30, 2014

Today begins the first pay period for the start of the 99.7% quality requirement.  That gives us today and tomorrow before it "officially" begins but just wanted to say good luck to everyone.  I'm saying a prayer for us all.  Just a tip to share ... most of you might already know this one but it's new to me and has saved my butt tons of times already.  Instead of viewing the client profile in the tiny column on the side of the document, I always expand it to full ...

Tricks To Faster Speech Recognition Editing?
Aug 14, 2011

I have been straight transcribing for many moons. Then got into doing QA and a lot of the reports I get are straight editing of speech recognition rather than doing QA. My production stinks when I do straight editing and have no idea how those of you that edit speech recognition all day make a living. Kudos to YOU! I am one of the probably few QA who really appreciates you MT's who make our jobs easier and do AMAZING jobs transcribing what I can't even QA. Thank you for your hard work ...

ShortHand Expander - Extra Tips Or Tricks ?
May 12, 2013

Well, after a less-than-stellar trial of IT and a bit of a disappointing trial of SmarType, I think I finally found one that works well for me in PC Shorthand.  Really easy to make additions, not too obnoxious or distracting on the screen, and, after playing with the settings, no lag in expanding.   Does anyone who uses Shorthand have any extra tips or tricks to increase its capabilities aside from what is listed in their instruction manual?  So far it's meeting my needs quite nicely ...

Morbid, But Super Informational
Feb 21, 2012

I find medical terminology quite fascinating and enjoy learning about the body and such. I found a t.v. series where they do autopsies on real humans while discussing the functions of the body, various ailments, numerous terms, revelations of their findings, and a whole lot more. They were very respectful and adult about all of it, and I learned a lot. Even if I did know about something, they helped explain it in a way that helped me understand it better. I am very squimish about this stuff in ...

Super Annoying....fiesa
Jul 02, 2014

It seems lately I have had a lot of corrections where they are removing what I have typed and marking as [UNCLEAR].  I am not getting dinged, but the reason this is bothering me so much is because they are doctors I am familiar with and know what they say.  It's not like a skip is happening and I'm adding in something. There are dictating, not always the best dictations, but because I'm familiar with them I know what it is. Makes me feel like I don't know what I ...

Sep 01, 2012

Is anyone else even just a little angered with the email from the CCM about the weekly statistics? Well.... when the CCM and QA lead get quarterly reviews, dont they get RAISES? That is how the rest of the world works! RAISES.
